Fuel Pump Issues and Differences | Carter Vs. Airtex | Mazda B2000 B2200

  • In this video I describe the issues with the mechanical fuel pump difference in the airtex 1376 and the Carter brand that seems to show up in the box for some that order it from Rock Auto.
    It is best to order one direct from a Mazda dealership or online using this part number FE85-13-350A
    This may or may not come with a SPACER and one is absolutely needed. Be sure and clean up and use your old one and purchase a new one online at RockAuto if your new pump does not come with one.
    Any products used in the video probably came from Amazon.

    Funny that you say that and I was skeptical about getting that fuel pump because I was gonna return mine just the other day and I said hell everything else looks the same and I thought hell I guess I’ll reuse my damn plastic spacer so I cleaned it with break clean and put it on just out of habit on knowing they all come with a new spacer

    Hey Mitch, thanks so much for taking the time to do this video. I have a thought on why RockAuto is shipping the wrong pump, or pumps without the spacer. We had this problem with a customer's '86 B2000 and your video answered the what the heck question. Well our customer ordered a new pump from a parts house who verified he needed the spacer and that his truck was a manual transmission. So maybe that's it. The catalog assumes an automatic tranny? Or defaults to it? Just a thought.

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, me and the guys in the group have all ordered from lots of sources and they all come that way now. I do specifically order for my 5 speed on RockAuto, and I have been ordering from RA for years. I made sure I am looking it up correctly and even looked back on past orders when they were correct. All manual transmission trucks have a mechanical fuel pump. All the autos have an electric in the tank. Cant mess this up. It wasnt until recently that they are NOT putting the better pump in the box. This is not ROCK AUTOs fault. This is a manufacturing issue. I found it best to order a good one directly from Mazda.

I had the original one from 1989 on it before and I can’t believe how long it lasted but it didn’t have anything on it either but I know it was original because it said Mazda on it.

    • @MazdaMitch

      Do not use two spacers. There is only one spacer to use anything more and the arm will not rest in the cam. The reason for the brake in the arm is either from people not using a spacer and there is too much tension on the arm or just shit arms from manufacturing on shitty pumps. By OEM from Mazda only. When I got my 1990 Mazda B 2200 it ran amazing then started stalling found a cap off and seen it was getting too much air, caped it, then it started stalling, I could drive it less and less farther then it start and stall wouldn't move, but when I look down in the carb I can see it spray gas in the carb, so I put it up for winter, just pulled carb and cleaned it all and everything put it back on and then it will only run with starting fluid so I went to locate the pump and boom I don't have this fuel pump nor is it in my tank it's on the left of my tank some lil side pump with its own line the old line is folded in half. no gas comes out at the carb when it's on but sprays out at the pump that's located on outside of gas tank where this fuel pump is I don't have anything but 2 gas lines that turn in to one into the carb it's just lines after outside pump idk if I have someone's Frankenstein project. if I take some videos and post them to my TH-cam and DM you, could you maybe tell me anything you, see? QUESTION: A 1990 B2200 will have this type of fuel pump instead of the electric one inside the gas tank or both?

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Automatics had an electric pump in the tank. The standard trans, has a mechanical. The mechanical can work on both and is recommended because they often last longer, and in case of a failure, easier to replace. I have a video on that as well.

    Would this cause it to pump to gas. I just bought a 91 suppose to have 2.2 but has 2.0. But rotor cap was off so I watch your video on timing and did got it back to tbc even pulled the plug and made sure it was on compression. Got the cap back on #1. But now it’s dumping gas in the carb. Has Weber 32/36 carb on it when I got it so I’m not sure what’s going on. Vin says originally had carb engine so I don’t think it’s sending to much gas because of that.

    • @MazdaMitch
      @MazdaMitch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean about your initial question "would this cause it to pump gas?"
      So you have a weber carb on, have you messed with it?
      Are you running a mechanical fuel pump?
      Is it an automatic or standard? The automatic trans trucks had a electric fuel pump and that may be your issue. Too much pressure.
      The timing shouldn't cause it to dump gas into the carb.
      Check your throttle cable to make sure there is a little slack in it, and all of your linkages.
