    How long would you leave petunias and salvia alone in the airlayering containers before you open them up? Also, did you water them at all while you were waiting for the roots to grow? Thank you. I love your videos and am learning a lot.

    • @marcelinanoss8825
      @marcelinanoss8825  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      im happy you are learning a lot,, now i wil teach you a little more here.. you cant unfortunately airlayer Petunias and Salvia. They need to be semi-hardwoods and your petunias are annuals :) You can only propagate Petunias by seed. Salvias are perennials but you have to use seed for them too. Not all plants can be air-layered, but there are a lot of them you can.

    They all worked and that is great. Were they all of the same bush, getting the same amount of water, light, soil and etc.? I don't think so. What this did prove of all three forms of air are the same and will produce roots if done properly. Thank you for sharing.

    • @marcelinanoss8825
      @marcelinanoss8825  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, they werent from the same plant, in fact they were from 4 plants to be exact. Air layering do not get light, they are shielded from the light deliberately with the foil. Now, the amount of water will vary but i tried to give them the same amount of water which is only a little once a week to keep the coco coir moist, Some varieties of roses are much harder than others. They one rose i have not had good success with is the Black Bacarra rose, Very very hard to propagate. In fact i think this is experienced with the larger nurseries as well. They are also very disease-prone. Beautiful rose but difficult to keep. Thanks for your feedback! :)

      Thrips will only affect the flower, you will want to remove the flower anyways as it will slow the rooting process.

      @@marcelinanoss8825 Ms. Noss... try using abt a 1-2gms of baking soda(a pinch or 2 of Sodium Bicarbonate) in your Neem Oil(5ml)+ Liquid Soap(10 drops) concoction in 1 litre of water... you'll love the results I think. Run a Patch Test on couple of leaves and wait for Couple of hours to check for any wilting or leaf burn , if so, dilute the solution a little more before spraying the whole plant or garden. Preferred time to spray is evening about sunset. You may try using Neem Cake Powder as 10%of your Soil mix for excellent results in long run. It will act as a good source of NPK while building a Systemic Resistivity against Fungus Diseases and Insects in the Plants, specially Roses. Love from India 💕🙏

      @@marcelinanoss8825 ... Namaste Ms. Noss.... extremely sorry for the goof up! I meant baking soda, Sodium bicarbonate( NaHCO₃) and not Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) .... actually while I was replying to you, something else was going on in my mind regarding how to supplement Calcium for Rose plants using eggshells .... hence the mistake. I just didn't realize it! Corrected the blunder. Thanks for pointing it out. 🙏... ( btw Neem Cake Powder and oil are effective against 200 plus types of insects and fungus .. make it a part of your regular potting soil mix ... just 10% is good enough!). My usual soil mix consists of 30% garden soil, 20% cocopeat, 10% coarse sand, 10% Neem Cake Powder,10% used tea leaves - washed & Sun dried, 20% Vermicompost. If leaf compost is available then proportion of tea leaves and garden soil can be reduced a bit to accommodate 10% of it. I do throw in a tea spoon of super phosphate for a medium to large size of pot for the development of robust root system for new plants. much love 💕

    Wat kind of composts are u using? Coz wen did air layerings hardly any roots came it was like a growth nob I waited for 2 months yet no roots, so wer did I go wrong?

    • @marcelinanoss8825
      @marcelinanoss8825  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      we dont use compost for air layering, you want to use either coco coir or spagham moss. You will want to make sure you scrap the epidermis thoroughly and then use a rooting gel to help speed up the rooting process. You also want to make sure your stem is the right size( pencil thickness) and use a stem that has just finished dead heading a bloom to ensure the hormones are present.

      @@jimtalor7971 Jim,, you may be doing everything alright, some cultivars are more difficult than others. However airlayering gives the best results. If i were to take a guess you may have forgoten to sterlize3 your cutting tools from the sounds of the upper stem turning black. Also, the place where you placed the propagation, the thickness of the stem. The fact leaves were wilted tells me that not enough water was getting to the tender stem. Try again, this time with a differnt rose or change the locatiuon of the cut. hope this helps

      Wonderful video.
      I’m buying Jiffy peat pots tomorrow. Have to drive 1 1/2 hrs to get them. I’m so excited about this method of propagation. I’ve talked to someone this evening about it.
      I’m in Australia so I would ask and suggest that you don’t use American months, but seasons and temperatures. You have a worldwide audience and although we are accustomed to changing everything to American it becomes very tiresome. ‘Early to mid spring’ is easier for most of the countries that are not tropical. We can cope with the temperatures that are not Celsius I think, but I grew up with the Imperial system so it’s familiar to me. Your channel deserves more subscribers. A little refinement would do wonders.
      I appreciate your knowledge. Thankyou.
