Hope you enjoyed the video, this one was a lot of fun to make! Let me know what videogame theme you'd like to see in LEGO next? And if you're not already subscribed please help us to reach 10k!
This is the most important decision Lego has made since licensed sets in 1999. Some of the most valuable IPs right now are video games, popular with kids and adults alike. If Lego wants to stay relevant, this is their future, absolutely.
Starwars IP has almost carried them since the 2000s its great that we are getting minecraft n sht but lego would still hold is what I’m saying with marvel and the multiple other franchises / series
Well there is Friends which, like city, often shows up in their top selling themes. I guarantee that friends and city out sell every theme in this video, whether we like it or not
Honestly I don’t necessarily hate the uprise of video game themes, I really like them especially the animal crossing line, it’s a great way to appeal to fans of that game franchise
I’d love to see LEGO make sets based on Kingdom Hearts due to their connection with Disney and 2 of the most iconic fighting games in the world, Street Fighter and Tekken. I’ve been honestly waiting for Street Fighter LEGO since 2016 when Street Fighter V was already out.
I'd love it if they did some game franchises that have been around for decades like Castlevania, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Mega Man, Metroid or Final Fantasy. They already have a partnership with Disney so Kingdom Hearts could be an option. If they are going for these 18+ sets then I think that there could be some flexibility around their rules regarding violence. An 18+ Metal Gear set or even some Resident Evil monsters would be a dream!
This is honestly a good thing as it appeals to both children and adults more due to some of the licenses bringing back nostalgia, collectibility, or bringing in themes that children will be willing to want. Which will boost the company in the long run. As licensed themes are obviously more popular than non-licensed
Man, I really hope we get more Zelda sets. I know it has its own theme page, but it would be a very Nintendo thing to do to force LEGO to make it a theme and only ever have one set. My only hope was this one article or something where they said Aounuma decided he wanted the Deku Tree to be the first element for Lego Zelda. Lets hope that wasn't a mistranslation 🙏
The problem I have with most of the big gaming themes that Lego has chosen is that they don't appeal to gamers that play a wide variety of games. These themes are based on evergreen IPs (games that you can play forever) - Minecraft, Fortnite, Overwatch, whatever Nintendo puts out on a yearly basis that brand loyalists will gobble up. The target audience generally only plays that game for thousands of hours. The second problem I have is the nostalgia baiting towards adults who might not even be gamers anymore, but they remember having an Atari back in the days. They need to diversify to attract the other category of gamers. Horizon was a good idea; but only 1 set, when there so many robot designs? Come on! Where is the Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Halo, Tomb Raider, Hades, Castlevania, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter etc? Where are the sets for licensed games like Jedi Survivor, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel's Spider-Man, Batman Arkham, Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
I’d say they are taking over because there’s so much you can do with the idea. With Disney- it’s just scenes from movies and characters as they are restrictive as a company, there’s no opportunity to expand really, whereas Minecraft is so open to new ideas, they can have game like scenes but also just buildings and creatures and larger scale sets as well as really tiny intricate sets and display models like crafting table. There’s so many worlds and opportunities for this to really become the new standard. Same goes for animals crossing, and some of Mario- some of it isn’t great especially Mario kart but I think the display sets such as piranha plant and Mario and Yoshi are geniuses moves and needs to be where the theme goes as well as maybe a CMF series. Fortnite is great too- these sets have the same appeal dreamzz does and that is vital for the future of Lego as its more kid oriented sets in superheroes and Star Wars really aren’t affordable and they need to do more affordable and fun sets again.
@@matthewjones8398And maybe some sets from they're live action shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly place, That's so ravens, Suite life of Zack and Cody and so on. But they should not dare making them as minidolls!
@@Simbala-bq5vy Also, the neglected opportunity to do Lego Zootopia and Wreck-It Ralph, Amphibia, etc. I want to know why Disney hasn't altered their licensing deal from movies to actual animated shows.
@@matthewjones8398 Yes! We need more Disney sets from different Disney movies and shows! Wether its animation or live action or a existing building. A Disney animation studios building would be fire!
@@Simbala-bq5vy You are forgetting a set based off of "Monsters, Inc." from 2001. Possibly a brickbuilt scare floor complete with 4 minifigs (and one big fig) for: Mike, Randall, Mr. Waternoose, Boo, and James P. Sullivan.
It sucks because I care nothing for the video game sets, and LEGO doesn’t make new original IPs anymore, at least not like before, and if even the movies licensed sets (except Star Wars lol) are going to decrease to make room for video game sets, then it seems the that there’s less and less for me to look forward to. Oh well, guess it’s MOCs from now on 😅
I just wanna add to my Lego Smash collection. Isabelle, Sonic, Link, Steve, Alex, Zombie, and I have one of the smaller Bowser builds, and a custom Snape and blue ice climber lol
I want Lego Kingdom Hearts more than anything because half the characters already exist in the Disney sets but Square Enix usually makes their own merch so that probably ain’t happening
Assassin’s Creed one is what I always wanted like they can a few or more sets per game all the way up to assassin’s creed shadows (that takes place in Japan during the end of the sengoku period) and I’m including the spin offs such as the assassin’s creed chronicles trilogy (china, India, and Russia), assassin’s creed Altair’s chronicles, assassin’s creed bloodlines, assassin’s creed 2 discovery, assassin’s creed liberation, assassin’s creed freedom cry, assassin’s creed jade, and the 2016 assassin’s creed film
I really dislike franchises (unless the sets are really REALLY good - like some of the newer Harry Potter sets or the almost perfect Lord of the Rings set - if only they had prints instead of stickers ... ). This being said, I do hope that lego realizes how DnD (which is another IP I like, even if it's not LEGO original ) synergizes with LEGO IPs like Dreamzzz, explorers, Ninjago and HOPEFULLY an in house LEGO castle theme (they can make some fancy and not that expensive DnD sets to get the DnD players hooked, and they - and the rest of us who aren't necessarily DnD fans will know what to do with the OTHER non DnD medieval sets - presuming not paying IP costs would make them more money). One can only dream that this will be the promised golden age for castle.
I love your channel but what is your source to say that any of these themes are top sellers for the Lego Group. Not a single annual report lists any of these themes as top themes and as far that is the only officially released information regarding sales of themes, hence any other source is just anecdotal
I definitely wasn't intentionally trying to say that they were there best themes so apologies if it came across that way. Essentially what I was trying to say is that it seems as though lego is going 'all in' on these videogame themes. If they didn't think it would work I don't feel as though we would have 5 full individual themes, rather just a 'videogames' theme that encompasses everything. Anecdotally when i used to work in a store that sold lego, minecraft was by far one of the most popular themes, but mario was one of the least popular. That may be to do with the australian demograhpic or something entirely different. Unfortunately I left earlier this year so I didn't really get to see much of sonic, and no animal crossing at all. But yeah thanks for the comment hope that explains it :)
I got the original lego cusoo minecraft set but I haven't got any of the new minecraft theme sets yet lol, also I think lego fallout would be very cool, but it might be too violent so I can understand if lego isn't interested in that theme

I feel like when you first mention sonic though, most ordinary people would obviously think of sonic first, but then go to eggman, knuckles or tails. Like how they're the ones in the movies so far
Very true good point, I was going to mention star wars battlefront two but I kind of figured both Star wars and marverl were already existing themes in lego before those games
Can't say I care for any of the bigger game themes they've done (bigger meaning: multiple waves of sets). Zelda is somewhat interesting, but not 300 bucks worth of interesting. I'm hoping to see some smaller sets for that IP.
For me personally, i don't care for the video game sets. The only ones i have bought are Sonic. I would like Lego to bring back space, castle and Adventurers.
