    This is what I have been searching for!! I’ve always enjoyed Taco Cabanas chicken tacos and always wanted to try my hand at making the sauce the Sheri chicken is based in. Never could find a recipe that I would think comes close to it…until I came across your recipe. Watching the video and reading the comments I trekked to the store to get all the ingredients and just made this.
    Absolutely delicious!!! This is the sauce they use at Taco Cabana..or at least the closest to it. This is my new addiction! For anyone reading the comments and on the fence trying it…do it!! Your taste buds with thank you!!!
    Thank you so much for posting this recipe 😊❤

    Very nice video turned out good. Slow cooking the chicken is pretty important. Takes a few hours to do right or the consistency won't be right. Salsa was very good I added some lemon juice. I cooked a lot of chicken in a pot over 3 hrs and I didnt need to add much more liquid so next time i might actually cook it with the lid off. Cheers thanks for video!
    I was trying to make shredded chicken like in most mexican restaraunts I think those are basically slow cooked all day. The main flavors are salt and pepper and its juicy and salty & greasy and delicious! So good in a burrito w lettuce. Maybe one of my favorite foods.
    I think also in resaraunts they use chicken stock and oil and some italian spices.

    • @fredderpst459
      @fredderpst459 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      turned out very close with your ingredients, chicken stock is not necessary, it makes it's own stock if you bake it in a pot, just add salt.
      I put some cumin and paprika (it needs a lot of paprika) on top of the chicken and some salt and pepper and then later stirred it all in, shredded it in the pot.
      I bought some thigh meat so it could get a little oily, =).

    •  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thank you so much for watching and your input! very glad to hear you made it and enjoyed it!! yeah its been some time since I've made it myself but have been itching for it. You can def use chicken stock of course, but you are right, it makes its own stock as well. i usually prefer it that way but some times i use stock or chicken bouillon. im planning to do a version in a green sauce that will be delicious as well! thanks again for the support! take care.

    what would you do for the sauce if you don’t have blender ?? Great vid btw 😄

    •  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey thank you so much for watching! if you don't have a blender you could always try a food processer as well if you happen to have one. If not you could also use a mortar and pestle and and strain the sauce but it will prob take a bit longer. You could als just finely dice the tomatoes and pepers and slow simmer them then let the chicken boil and marinade in that. if you dont mind it a little chunkier

    Thanks! That was delicious. Very most. I only used chile seco entero - they are very mild since my family doesn't enjoy the heat. Which chile should I add for just a little more heat?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey thanks so much! love that you made it so cater to your families tastes. Chile de Arbol! It will add more flavor and definitely more heat. thanks for watching.

    What do you do with the leftover pulpy "salsa" after you strain the red sauce? Do you use it as a salsa?

      You could. I toss it normally. But hmmm I’ll have to try that

    Ok so ive made this a couple more times and i got some notes:
    Take your seeds out of your chilis first thing. Way easier than dealing with a hot chili.
    DRY TOAST YOUR CHILIS BEFORE REHYDRATING. This is key.
    I toasted my onion on my plancha before adding it to the blender.
    Instead of salt, use knorr caldo de pollo or chicken bouillon.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you for tip! i will look to implement this next time. Toasting the chilis looks next level. And oooh very interested in using the caldo de pollo vs salt. thank you so much

    • @CardinalKaos
      @CardinalKaos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ honestly each every one of those tips I stole from another youtuber or even Rick Bayless lol. Cannot claim any originality lol. Oh and now when I make ANY roasted salsa, fml just use the oven/broiler. You make an verde salsa in like 5 min total

  • @Rainbow41_8

    I’m making it today and slow cooking the chicken so it’s tender (using breasts not thighs) and going to use the extra broth instead of just the water in the sauce and also, since I’m slow cooking it, I sliced up the onion and pepper and will chop it up when it’s all soft and add it back to the chicken for flavor. I will let you know how it turns out!

    Looks amazing! How come you don’t just boil the chicken in the marinade and only do it once the chicken is already cooked? Is there a reason to that?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andrew! Yes of course you can do that and I do as well sometimes. I wanted to break down the steps as much as I could for any beginner cooks out there.

    Can i use jalapeños instead of the red pepper

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You absolutely can if you want like a Chile verde sauce. Leave out the tomato’s too. Use this: cilantro, jalenpenos, green tomatillos, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and whatever seasonings you like. Blend it up and same thing :)
