      Besides I think they are married. Boyfriend isn't really the best description in that stage.

      I stand corrected. I don't know if German legislation includes something about engagement. Traditionally in many countries and cultures it has been a promise of marriage and an agreement, with some consequences which is underlined by using words like fiance.

      @@just42tube as far as I know an engagement is only relevant for criminal proceedings in Germany, they wouldn't have to make a statement against each other.
      Ur correct, the correct term would be Fiance, but Uyen herself still calls him "German Boyfriend" in her videos it's probably fine if we refer to him the same. I think she tried using "German Fiance", but I guess it didn't worked out so well, maybe people have been confused or something.

    I have a coworker from Vietnam, one from Korea, and one from the Philippines and I appreciate them so much for always bringing snacks for us all to try. Only thing is that they all think their country has the best snacks but still appreciate trying new ones 😅 I’m just here for all the snacks LOL Vietnamese coworker brought some chewy banana candy once and they were so addicting! I hate American banana candy flavor but these tasted like perfectly ripe bananas.

    • @wormwoodwine6997
      @wormwoodwine6997 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Yes, because the Vietnamese banana candies (the traditional ones) are made from real, ripe bananas, not chemical flavorings. It's a way to preserve the abundance of bananas in tropical weather. There are crispy bananas too if you want to try them. Edit: banana chips are the name or chuối sấy.

    • @spiritedaway0tutu
      @spiritedaway0tutu 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      There is actually more than one reason why their banana candy tastes like ripe bananas!
      In tropical areas where bananas are abundant, the fruit itself is used as an ingredient in more things. Meanwhile, in areas where bananas aren’t grown, food is flavored using isoamyl acetate, a compound used in the Americas for banana flavoring in 1860, a full ten years before bananas themselves were introduced to the same areas.
      There was a view of bananas being exotic and mysterious back then, not to mention that they were difficult to ship and insanely expensive, so food manufacturers were aiming less for completely authentic banana taste and more for mysterious and exotic fruit flavors. They tried to get close, but that was difficult to do when bananas were hard to get their hands on.
      Even so, isoamyl acetate does bear a resemblance to the actual flavor of the first rare bananas that first made their way to the US. The problem is that the flavoring resembles not the modern Cavendish Banana, but the extinct *Gros Michel* banana. They were wiped out by fungal plagues in the 1950s, and the Cavendish became the primary banana type because it is hardy and resistant to the plague that killed the Gros Michels.
      So, when you are eating something artificially banana flavored, you are actually eating the closest approximation that still exists of what was once the most popular banana in the world. Cool, huh?

    Uyen, you just said it "it tastes like memory". In my mind, I love candies and desserts and flavors that I just dislike as an adult. When I tried them as an adult, they tasted processed and not like real food. The sweet was too sweet and the flavors weren't very strong. I realize that this is why kids like certain things and adults, not so much. Welcome to having a more refined palate - you just know good, fresh food when you have it and when you don't! How come you didn't have more pandan candies?

      Western snacks tend to change their recipes to use cheaper and more fake ingredients over the years. It's not always just our taste. I feel like Asian ones (except from the highly industrialized countries) tend to do that to a lesser extend

    This is sort of off-topic but I tried summer rolls today! Turns out after my mum saw videos of spring/summer rolls with crispy bottoms on she bought some rice paper, and I came upon a big bagful of it sitting in the kitchen. I am vegetarian and we didn't have any vermicelli so I just stuck a load of salad in mine, which I know may not be the full experience. Rice paper is something I haven't experienced before as a brit and it's honestly such a fun experience! It's so stretchy!

      Wurstsalat isn't healthy either, but the thing is that in many other countries they use very suspicious chemicals in their products that are aren't allowed in Germany. We stopped using cancer-causing food coloring in the 80s (before you could still buy blue popsicles f.e., but not anymore). So to a German such things as the jellies look dangerous.

    10:14 choco pie was and is South Korean, but South Korea got the idea from the American moon pie.😊 And, Vietnam got the choco pie from South Korea.

    Because of you I just visited an Asia Shop, here in Berlin, and because it was on my way. But the peanuts wrapped in a coconut layer were disappointing. 😢 I prefer peanuts fajita style (very spicy) that you can get in any German supermarket.

    I love those jelly straws! I get them from the asian groceries here in ireland. I'm vegetarian and they're veggie friendly which most jelly sweets aren't. They're so fun to suck up out of the packaging.

    10:50 in some parts of the world they’re called tea cakes, some call them snowballs but i call them tea cakes, you can most likely get some kind of thing called Schokoladen-Teekuchen or whatever the term actually is in german, they’re sold in the UK so i reckon they could be in germany as well

    If I'm not mistaken, they also sell the 'phồng tôm' in Germany! They are called 'Krabbenchips'. If you can't find them there and you're ever near The Netherlands, they have phồng tôm in many different flavours and they are premade. So no need to fry them!

    "In Germany we only have flavours: salty, sour and paprika."....It's sad, but it's true. As a German I demand more different flavours as well!

    I like her and I wish her to be happy. I will ask the universe to give her the ability of liking more things, because everytime she tries something she doesn't like it. Hopefully the universe will help her like more things so she can be happy like a child with everything.

    😂 I understand your sentiment and share your love. Whenever my sister and I visit Vietnam, we always buy snack as a matter of priority. And coming back from Vietnam, we would dedicate a whole luggage just for snacks too. That corn chip is still my favourite from childhood.

    The fried corn I believe is sold as corn nuts lots of places (at least in canada) so you can probably find at german supermarket next to nuts if they have

    The fried corn looks like it might be the same (or very similar) to something we have in the US that we call "corn nuts" in English. Maybe you can find them in an American import store in Germany? The flavors on the outside might be different and the process might be a bit different, but they seem at least similar. I love corn nuts in a spicy or barbeque flavor!

    OMG I love Choco Pie!!!!! Choco Pie is just like the American Moon Pie……but SO much better. You can also find a huge variety of flavors instead of just chocolate! Highly recommend you get some if you can find them at an Asian Market! So yummy!
