  • Packing using a concertina bag helps to preserve your paraglider by protecting it from moisture and mud when packing, and keeping the leading edge section neatly folded. Gin produce an ultralight version, the Concertina Compress Bag, which Carlo tested during a flying trip to Colombia.

    Just used the 2.7 bag for my 25 Pi3 and works great in the large Easiness 3 harness! The training edge is folded over a bit. Snug but no issues and still some room for light clothing. Thanks for recommending it.

    Just wanted to add for information, a Sigma 9 size 25 easily fits in the 3m version. It is a semi light wing that weighs 4.9kg but doesn't have many wires in it.

    This is a the way of packing wich damage the glider top surface a lot. When you collect the middle of the glider you are scratching and pulling the top surface on the grass(whole England is a golf court- so its not a big issue there). If there are small branches small dry leaves , pebbles etc on the ground, it is damaging the glider. Therefore first the glider may be collected on the top of the concertina, then collect the rods from the wingtip to the middle…
    my complain is about: footage at 2:52..
    On other hand Full Respect to Flybubble team! I like your videos. and 99,5% are super helpful!

      Thanks for the input Airmax Windsport Center. 👍 Although in this video (filmed on a grassy launch in Colombia) I am packing the wing after mushrooming it up into a ball - not from laid flat, as some do - so actually there isn't much dragging of the wing along the ground (maybe the closeup video angle makes it look more than it was?) I agree with you that if the surface had been more aggressive then I would have been even more careful to first lay the wing more on on top of the bag more and drag it even less along the ground.
      Actually when the ground is dusty or aggressive I take a lot of care when packing all the gear because, I completely agree with you, this can cause a lot of wear and premature aging on the wing. I see too many pilots not taking enough care with their gear - and often the same pilots later complain because their gear "hasn't lasted as long as it should". Taking good care of gear can easily extend the lifetime 2, 3 or 4 times, so it's well worth doing - unless you are rich, which I certainly am not!
      About whether to collect the wing/cells/rods from the wingtip to the middle, or the middle to the wingtip, having tried either way many, many times, my feeling that each way has its pros and cons. Overall I personally prefer to pack from the middle to the wingtip since I feel this makes less of a mess of the lines and it slightly quicker to pack and unpack. I don't think it really matter that much. I am always trying to work out the best compromise way of doing things (80/20 rule) not always the most perfect way if it takes more time for negligible benefit.
      Wow, that was a long answer for just how to gather the wing into the concertina bag! 😅
      Glad you like our videos and find them helpful. Wishing you great flights from the Flybubble team! 🦅 Cheers, Carlo

    Just packed my Geo5 MS into 2.7m version, a snug fit but nothing excessive.
    It needs last 15cm of trailing edge to be folded, but oh well, 200g is 200g.

    • @flybubblecarlo
      @flybubblecarlo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great, thanks for contributing your experience, that'll help even more pilots! :-) A lot comes down to how the packing is done. It sounds like you pack the wing pretty nicely. I don't think there's any problem with folding back the 'excess' trailing edge, as long as you don't bend any shapers e.g. rods or mylars too much.

    Always wanted a concertina bag with a compression zipper attached. Definitely will give this a try. But does it work as well when you have c-wires in the wing? Or will those be scrambled?

    • @flybubblecarlo
      @flybubblecarlo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the wing fits well i.e. it's not too bulky (this concertina bag is designed for lightweight, low volume wings only) and you pack it right then I don't see why this bag couldn't be used for lightweight wings with c-wires.

    Is it ok to fold the leading edge like that on any wing?

    • @greghamerton4422
      @greghamerton4422 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      the interleaving? yes. It's the tight bend on the 1/4 fold you need to be careful of, and that depends on the wing you own. Short reinforcing stops before 1/4 chord. Long reinforcing goes past that, and then it would be best to fold loosely, or in 1/3rds. This packing bag is not for storing the wing, it's for compact carrying. Best to store it laid out flat.

    My Summit XC3 has long rods on the leading edge and shorter on the trailing edge, comes to be folded in 3 not in 4, also wasn't it recommended not pack your glider too tight?

    • @greghamerton4422
      @greghamerton4422 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct Luis, I agree Summit XC3 not the right glider to pack into this light bag. You can get a similar result using a concertina bag, and it's probably best to fold that around your harness to get an increased radius on the rod bends.

      I've bought one from my local dealer for quite some time now. To inform others, I have to say that the wing fits (with a small fold at the tail to match concertina's length).
      Of course it's the larger sized concertina.
      Plus, when stored, I open the zipper for the wing to be loose.
      It's a nice product I can say.

      A lot comes down the packing is done. It sounds like you pack your wing pretty nicely. I think that some pilots might struggle and get frustrated.
      I think it's OK to fold back the excess 'tail' at the trailing edge end, as long as you don't bend any shapers e.g. rods or mylars too much.
