There are as many ways to pack a wing as there are pilots but the concertina method is very popular with modern wings because, among other things, protects the plastic rods from being damaged and bent too hard.
In this video we show you two ways to concertina pack your paraglider wing with and without a special bag for it!

Very nice video and really great explained. When you Zip the Bag,you can also hold one finger inside the bag under the zipper. Its easy to close and you have one more safety point.

Thanks for a good tutorial! Others don't quite explain it in this detail, I suppose it's harder to understand what a beginner doesn't know. I don't have the long bag (I have ozone buzz z3 small) but it still is a very helpful method to me
Love this video..I do not have a concertina bag yet but now I am concerned about the fold in half (4-5X) horizontal technique. I am going to try the concertina without a concertina bag technique now you demonstrated..that is once the snow melts again here in Colorado. Thx for info.

For many years I would turn the concertinaed front on the side then try to get the rest of the wing sideways too before closing the bag. With my Alpina 3 that is difficult, the rods run the length of the cord, and I couldn't see the ones on the bottom. Last week I had an epiphany. I just left everything unturned while zipping up. Super easy to get everything aligned. Then after it's all zipped, turn the entire bag sideways! Works great, much faster, cleaner concertina.

Great stuff as usual from you guys! During's Andre's pack I was thinking: too bad my BGD did not come with a bag like that. And then Gemma gets the exact bag that I have, sweet! (mine did come with a strap though)

One tip regarding wind: If you have a less forgiving concertina bag like the AirDesign AirPack 50/50 it makes sense to point the trailing edge towards the wind. That way the wind does not constantly reinflate the wing and it is much easier to "wrestle" it into the bag.
I think you would make a great flight instructor because you can explain very well. I'm in the middle of my flight school here in Germany and I've noticed that most instructors just tell you what has to be done but don't explain the science behind it, like why it makes sense to do it this way or what happens if you do it the wrong way. I wish my instructor could explain like in your videos. You should consider opening a flight school.

To avoid folding the plastic rods, turn concertina bag around your harness. Many high profile comp pilots do it this way. Using an original inflatable cylinder, a small inflatable ball, or a helmet can work too.
You don’t need to turn all the plastic re-enforcements 90 on their side separate from the wing, keep them upright in-line with wing which reduces stress. When the whole wing is packed turn the entire package job 90 and then put two/three folds in it.

Tip for you Andre if you don't have a strap you can use the drawstring on the glider bag to hold the leading edge together while you fold up the rest of the wing then when you are doing your last fold you simply pull the glider bag off the wing tips and fold it up and stuff it in the bag

Someone with a very tangent-prone mind here, just starting to watch this video! It would be AMAZING to invent a dual-purpose paraglider/tent convertible! Maybe even triple-purpose - could easily be a hammock as well! And you could stuff the cells with foam and have it really well insulated for cold nights :)
Ahah I think they work pretty good as sleeping bags as they are
I think it’s way more economical to use a $60 tent and hiking poles instead of using your $3000 wing as a tent!

We do it too! I think technically they are different instruments, the concertina is the small hexagonal one and the accordion is the larger one with many buttons. I used the wrong one in the Ellen meme!

@@AndreBandarra1 I'm not so sure it is super simple, for instance I used to have big problems with my lines tangling with the stuff sack, but now I've started putting the lines in a figure of 8 rather than coiling them which seems to help a lot. Also I tend to gather the rods together like a concertina pack, although I'm not really sure if that is worthwhile. Would be interesting to see some ideas on the stuff sack, also there isn't really a good youtube video on it at the moment.
This is only good if you have short rods. With high perf gliders, the long rods would get a twist. So make sure when laying down the leading edge, that the entire glider is on it's side, keeping the rods straight.

Hi, where in England did you go, im from Nottingham. I want to get into paramo toting and gliding, but this is confusing, I've been told my Swing Arcus is not suited for paramo tiring, but gliding, but when I did a training course, the instructor took it up with a powered engine. Please can you also do a video on the difference between paramitors, and gluders, and why they say some wings should not be suited to paramitors, but people still use them with an engine? #?!! #??

About option 2: what if you are alone? Pretty easy if somebody is helping you, but that's not always the case...

As I've just got my first wing and am becoming a GH junkie, I'm going out in light conditions, and a bit heavier as well to get a feel for various conditions. Obviously, it's easy to pack the wing without much breeze, but I struggle when it's going over 15-20 mph. I can kill my wing and master it using the C's, and weight down one end with the wing parallel to the wind, but it's still a devil to fold up nicely. Can you demo packing a wing with one person when it's blowing hard? I've tried just gathering everything together from the lines, but even then the wind wants to inflate the open cells. Your mastery is appreciated. Stay COVID safe and enjoy your indoor projects.
Hey John, yeah can definitely relate to being difficult to pack a wing on your own in strong wing. If you manage to get the wing down and one of the wingtips secure the wing will flag out (align itself with the wind). In this position place your harness in a way where there is no tension on the lines. If there is no tension on the lines the wing can't reinflate. Then from the wingtip that is secured just pull cell by cell (like concertina packing but from one tip rather than the middle) and you'll be able to have the whole wing bunched up on the leading edge and from there it's easy. Rosing up the wing with the lines like normal just doesn't work in strong wing. Hope that helps and stay safe!
@@AndreBandarra1 Thanks for the response Andre! That's basically what I've been doing as you described. Sometimes it seems like when I've got the wingtip down the lines to the other side are almost putting tension on and starting to inflate. It's an art to be sure and yet another one to master :)

Musical instrument called concertina which I call an accordion. Typically, what is the durability of a wing before you have to replace it?
Banderra & lady....please do a video on cleaning a canopy & lines. I have yet to see one on that subject. I constantly drag mine through sand, dirt, grass etc. Is it even advisable to clean it? If it is okay what kind of detergents should be used? Thank you for this excellent video!

Done it twice, both times in the field. Don’t bother zipping if I can get away with it.
P.S. Which is harder? Folding a fitted sheet or folding a paraglider?
Fitted sheets are around 4m^2 at most, a paraglider wing is a 20+m^2 fitted sheet!

My point here is, that by having to turn the "concertinaed" leading edge 90°, you have even more folds at the same place, which stress the fabric. Have you ever seen reports of plastic rods getting damaged by storage? Me not. I think that todays packing habits are still heaviliy influenced by post-war-generation "carefulness" (they want their glider to last for 15 years, which is ridiculous) and even more from the industry always trying to sell not a "better", but a "newer" product. Tell me one thing that is more rip-off than 100 bucks for a concertina bag.
