    I love the old trolleys. The current trams of today may have the more advanced technology but they don't look as interesting as the old trolleys...the old trolleys, like vintage automobiles, are true classics.

    Loved riding the trolley's as a child, about 10 years ago I would take the train into Center City, catch the El to Front and Girard and take the 15 to Westmoreland Street in Port Richmond, parking was and still is awful down in that neighborhood, would take me 15 minutes to find a parking space when I visited my dad.

      Jonny Watts it’s not a heritage line though, it just runs the heritage cars. A heritage line is like the New Orleans trolley thing, a tourist trap. The 15 trolley is part of the trolley system and thousands of people depend on it every day. During the winter they often use the modern trolleys to ensure it keeps running, they dispense with the nostalgia when it’s not convenient.

    Now the trams are usually very long, nearly as a subway train.

    This video is like going back in time to when I was a Freshman in high school and wasn’t exposed to the wonders of having my own set of wheels so I had to use the 15 trolley, the 60 trolley, and the old 89 bus route if I ever wanted to leave Port Richmond/Fishtown as a kid . Because even though both of those neighborhoods are completely different now then 30 years ago back in 1991 no one argued if you technically live in Fishtown or if you are really from Port Richmond because it was all the same type of skilled middle class people who for most families may be 2nd generation Americans and they raised their families in row homes , saved every penny they could because they were going to send their kids to college.I can tell you this because I still live down there that it’s being completely taken over from money out of New York , you can forget about Fishtown and Port Richmond ( Port Richmond and Kensington share a zip code so when they rate neighborhoods in the city Port Richmond ends up as being loaded with empty abandon houses , dangerously high level of crime , and a army of homeless junkies living under every train bridge. But that’s so far from the reality of things that when people come into the city for the first time and tell me they were in a cool bar or new restaurant In Fishtown, I ask for the location to see if I have been there and half the time I tell them you were in Port Richmond not Fishtown then show them on a map . The first thing they say to me is where’s all the crime and decay we read about in some magazine article? I then break out my other map I cut out of the local newspaper and had traced out the three separate neighborhoods that all share the same zip code, 1. Kensington, 2. Harrowgate, and 3. Port Richmond. Then they understand things a little better and it explains how 2 out of the 3 neighborhoods in the same zip code are really dangerous and the crime is high and the junkies will rob you or kill you for 25 cents but Richmond has never been a bad area , every empty lot or old building are being either built on or with 600,000 dollar prefab houses that are all sold before one shovel of dirt has been moved , and all of those old factories that sit empty in the no mans land which is what we call the area between Frankford ave and Aramingo ave have been turned into these huge lofts with off street parking , indoor pools , giant roof decks with separate bungalows on them for people who invite their friends over for the weeks they can stay in these two room one bathroom bungalow on a roof deck that’s 4 stories up above the level with amazing views of the city skyline , the river , and you can see the art museum which means fireworks in the summertime.

    I had this dream where SEPTA replaced the PCC2 trolleys with the Kawasaki trolleys, on Girard avenue, and they had to paint the 15 Kawasaki trolleys with the color scheme that was used on the PCC2 trolleys. So that people don't get confused on if the trolley was 15 or 10.

    • @tassiebaz
      @tassiebaz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Toy, Thanks for watching and for sharing your dream. Sounds like a SEPTA nightmare. They didn't run the Kawasaki cars on Route 15 because they are not ADA compliant (no wheelchair lifts), although a few did sneak out there when the 15 first started running again. Of course, there is no mistaking the buses running on the 15 now for the Kawasaki cars, and who knows when (and if) the PCC2s will be back. Cheers, tassiebaz.

      @@tassiebaz hi, tassiebaz. You can call me Miss Prime, if you want to. You're welcome. And yeah, It does sound like a SEPTA based nightmare, but the real nightmare would be the rebranding of train service that SEPTA is planning on doing, for 40m$ because of the research saying that new riders are confused by SEPTA's current signage. SEPTA should have some employees or older riders help educate the new riders and help the new riders navigate around SEPTA, instead of rebranding the trains to SEPTA metro and such, because the older riders will then get confused, like "which one was the market frankford line before renaming? Which one was the broad street line before renaming?" After the rebranding... if SEPTA doesn't want to confuse new riders, they have to get an older rider to help the new riders to learn about SEPTA and how to navigate it. Since the rebranding will confuse the older riders.
      We don't need SEPTA copying STM (Montreal public transit) or RTD (Denver (the colorado state one) public transit)
      Yeah, they'll never operate Kawasaki trolleys on 15, because of the ADA compliance, and such. Also, the buses are easy to tell if they're buses or not. Because tires, and the lowering of the bus and rising of the bus and the ramps and such. Also, buses have different markings than Kawasaki trolleys. But same color and such. Just different patterns.

    • @tassiebaz
      @tassiebaz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Miss Prime, SEPTA always has grand ideas, sometimes just not practical however. They should just concentrate on providing better and more reliable safe service. Regarding trolleys vs buses, I'm sure most people don't care what shows up as long as it takes them where they want to go. Regarding confusing Routes 10 and 15, the only place that could happen is Lancaster & Girard. I think the 15 stops are on Girard, and the 10 stops are on Lancaster. Cheers, tassiebaz.

    • @SamanthamusPrimeV28050
      @SamanthamusPrimeV28050 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tassiebaz hi, tassiebaz. I understand. And I wonder, Should we riders suggest ideas to SEPTA to help SEPTA become better and such? They should really concentrate on providing a safe ride for passengers. We don't need SEPTA ending up like RTD. Low ridership because of problems. Heck, my friend Catie Bowman thought of bringing a pocketknife with her when she went to go to ride the market frankford line, just to make sure she stays safe from rapists and other criminals on SEPTA.
      The lines 10 and 15 can get confusing. But with knowledge of geometry and concepts of perpendicular lines, they're not so hard to tell apart, also, nowadays, with the 15 being a PCC2 trolley that has green marking on it. and the 10 being a Kawasaki trolley and white with red and blue marking, it's easy to tell the difference. And yes 15 stops on girard and 10 stops on Lancaster.

    Really nice and what SEPTA did to the 29 & 79 trolleybus routes was turned them into diesel-powered routes until 2018-2019 that's when they went electric bus again using the battery powered type what would have been better for 29 & 79 buses in South Philadelphia is operate them as dual mode trolleybuses that means they actually charge using the trolley bus wires and also Bus Depot charging enable them to operate both trolley bus routes and Diesel powered routes like the 37 South Philadelphia to airport & 55 Philadelphia to Doylestown routes. These PCCs should have air conditioning units if you look at them right now. For SEPTA if they need new trams to operate 15,34, & 36 tram routes perhaps CAF Urbos example of them Boston 3900s Alstom Citadis Ottawa Confederation Line & Bombardier Flexity Minneapolis St Paul.
