Their problem is the pricing and the thing you get for the price is too much a ripoff
Single ticket are almost 20$. A simple pop corn + beverage can cost 20$ extra. If youre going on a date you can end up paying 80$
And what do you get from it? Most tv and smartphone now have 4k resolution. Excellent quality. The seats at cinema isnt really as comfortable and cozy as your sofa or your bed. And you can buy yourself some good food for just 10$ at your local store
Cinema thought they can ripoff people ask insane price. And people would keep coming
Now the only people who go to cinema are people who have first dates, people who got lot of money in the bank and some rare hardcore movie fans
Its been years i dont hear about people planning to go to cinema as an outdoor activity. They now usualy choose bar/cafe/restaurent/touristic place/beach

We even go every single weekend sometimes multiple shows a day to different theaters because we review different movies and best premium format possibles. I've been in AMC Stubbs member since 2011 and a list since 2018 I go every single weekend to work on the TH-cam channel I will continue to invest in this theater and we still need the theaters as much as the theaters need the movies. 👊🙏

To be honest, I only use streaming service for seasonal shows with multiple episode. I just cannot watch single big-movie on streaming platform anymore. There is always that nagging feeling that my time is better spent elsewhere and I am not able to fully focus on the movie. Movie theatre allow me to enjoy these big movies, it is an experience, not a checklist anymore.

They forgot to mention that HBOMax having the movies releasing at home and at the movies same day was an utter disaster! It completely destroyed any chance for them to make any revenue at the movies, and at the same their subscribers list didn't grow at all. Now HBOMax is getting dismantled and purchased by another group. For Disney on the other hand releasing movies only for 45 days hasn't been good either, look at Dr. Strange and Thor getting beat by Top Gun (which has been in theaters all summer long.) As much as I love streaming at home I hope movie theaters don't go out of business, nothing beats seeing a blockbuster in the biggest screen ever.

@@EldePHX bro, whats so special about going to your couch/bed/movie room and watching a movie? I basically do that everyday.... I watch TH-cam/movies/Netflix etc. There is nothing "special" about seeing a movie on my house. Going to the theater "feels" special. Makes it interesting and it's a "fresh" view (seeing the same room you see everyday VS seeing a new environment). It's refreshing.
Now, if you are a boring person who has a routine and don't like to try new things, then sure, stick to watching movies in the same room you've been watching em for the past few years.
It's like going to a new restaurant. Sure, you can always "cook at home" and the food might not be "new" but the environment is different and therefore, feels different, exciting, and new.
      That's movie theaters for me.

As a film lover who has regularly enjoyed the moviegoing experience at AMC theaters for decades I appreciate the service they provide. Do I wish they would invest in enough staff to keep its theaters clean? Yep, but I genuinely feel AMC has worked to deliver the best cinematic experience in the business with its Dolby Cinemas, IMAX with Laser, McGuffin’s, Stubs A-List and upgraded food options. If theatrical exhibitors are concerned about growth they would do well to start investing in adequate staff to help guests and make their theaters clean and inviting. Fingers crossed AMC takes action like this because I love going out to the movies. Long live theatrical exhibition!

You have to have two of the following things to succeed in business. 1-Speed/Convenience 2-Quality 3-Affordability. AMC only has one. They are not affordable, when compared to streaming services and food prices, and they aren't convenient, due to streaming services offering content on a device that everyone has. They need to somehow lower prices or expand their offerings by offering unique experiences (extended edition movies, immersive content, maybe an NFT for those who come to the first few showings).

Will always prefer seeing a blockbuster or action film on the big screen with friends and family. Not only is it nostalgic but the theatre experience is just more elevated compared to any home theatre setup, from the large IMAX screens, immersive Dolby Atmos surround sound, reclinable leather seats, and in-seat food and drink service if we’re dining at the movies. AMC should offer early screenings for members and perhaps other perks. Alternative shows like concerts, pro sports and anime films have also boost the variety - gaming events at the theatre could be huge too. Interactive trivia and games on a dedicated app as part of the pre-show, with mini rewards have been a nice addition too at some theatres.

My wife and I used to go to the local AMC theaters for the big releases, but over the past decade the theater owner failed to update, renovate, or even thoroughly clean the theaters. We gradually stopped going to the theater and just waited for the movies we wanted to see to hit DVD/BluRay. The theater seats were filthy and tiny, reminiscent of today's airline seating or even worse. The screens and sound system were not up to modern standards, and the prices had become ridiculous. In other parts of the country theaters were upgrading seating to large adjustable seats with lots of room, offering higher quality food and drink, letting people reserve seats, and in general making the customer feel like the experience was worth the money. Since the pandemic we haven't been in either of our local AMC theaters, and we have no intention of doing so unless we get new ownership that completely updates the facilities and the experience.

This is my AMC in Vegas. It's filthy, the drink machines never work, they still only offer popcorn and basic snacks, and they never updated the seating to recliners. Only 1 theater had them the last time I went. I moved here from a place that had a decent AMC where I could have dinner and a movie with the stubs a-list sub. I cancelled that sub and went with regal who has the better theaters here. But again, regal changed their subscription and now isn't worth it...and now they're going out of business.
I don't know why these companies don't do family plan subs, either. But either way, AMC where I live isn't worth going to and they cost too much for too little service.

People forget, Long before the Pandemic, Hollywood was trying their best to get viewers back in the theaters as numbers had severely dropped. The pandemic simply exacerbated the problem. The real reason why theater viewing had fallen off was due to a rash of very disappointing high profile films, along with the movie experience having long become very very bad. The theaters themselves run poorly by poorly trained, underpaid staff. Theater equipment out dated, and all this with an increase in cost for tickets. But ticket sales really wasn't what kept people away, The overall costs had become astronomical. The cost of concession stand snack items was just overpriced, No one should be spending $300 and more just to take their family out to see a movie with some popcorn, but that's what its grown into. And on top of high cost, another distraction was who was attending theater viewing... Loud noisy kids. Theaters became a hotspot for kids attending but seldom ever actually watching the film. Going to the theater placing 80 percent of their attention on each other talking or on their smartphones laughing it up, making the experience for those who came to actually watch the film simply intolerable. Better off not wasting your movie on a bad experience and what however months for it to be released by other means. Then you can watch the film in peace with no distractions. The movie going experience needed to change all together. And with that said, i may point out an experience that has recently blown my mind away. A theater experience which was top notch in every regard, all at the comfort of my home. An expensive home theater you say? No. not at all. I watched a movie in a theater via the BigScreen App for the Oculus Quest2. WOW! several theater types to choose from All of which feels and looks real!! NO i really Mean this!!! you have to try this!!!! This applications places you in one of several theaters to choose from with all the hallmarks of a real theatrical experience. AND you can watch 3d films that are simply perfect. Dare i say, if you can bare wearing the VR headset for such a period of time, with a break or two between. This experience is so good you really Dont have to goto a theater. AND ironically enough, you can attend these virtual movie going experiences with other avatar friends and other attendees. and block them out if so desired. its truly a game changer.

Amc where I live always has broken soda machines, the old style chairs in all but 1 theater, no food options, and was not worth keeping. Truly, going to a theater is no longer an option for most people these days. I love movies, I used to go daily when I had movie pass and amc and regal subs, but that's a thing of the past. I have a much better time at home.

For all the talk of expanding into new businesses, I never understood why theaters didn't utilize their core strengths and resources for things like conventions, TED talks, eSports, Super Bowl parties, weddings, etc. I feel like there's so much you can do with theaters, basically anything that could use a big screen, lots of seating, and food. I know they only have so much space, but I've gone into lots of movie showings where the theater was nearly empty, so I feel like they must have some unused capacity. And for what it's worth, if they're seriously capacity-constrained for all those uses, that would suggest the potential of opening even more locations to meet that demand. I feel like instead of showing the same movie 5 times in a row on a single screen, that could be consolidated down to 2 showings, and then the space could be used for other events. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like there's so much money-making potential there.

If theaters were multi purpose (showing movies but also live theater productions, music, comedy, etc.), they would be more of an asset to the community and would be able to survive certain market changes due to the diversification of their offerings.
Additionally, a MovieTavern model where you can eat dinner while watching a movie, and making the movie watching experience more comfortable, would go a long way.
But right now, I just don't want to sit in a room with a bunch of people who have Covid. So I've only see like 1 movie in the theaters since the pandemic.

This was an excellent report. I KNOW my rig is not as good as a giant theater screen but it is good enough for me to not need theaters anymore. It is an Epson 4K Projector on to a separate screen; trust me, it is STUNNING. It has the exact same characteristics: No reflections, about a 170-degree viewing angle, and none of my theater complaints as follows. On Flight 93, a somber film involving 9-11 these two spoiled brats talked incessantly and LOUD all the way through it. Toward the end, with about 15 minutes remaining, they left! I couldn't believe it. For me to tell them to STFU I would have had to walk over to them and make a big scene. This has happened many times and it is a deal breaker for me.😧Best of luck to all the theater companies involved!
