My wife and I used to go to the local AMC theaters for the big releases, but over the past decade the theater owner failed to update, renovate, or even thoroughly clean the theaters. We gradually stopped going to the theater and just waited for the movies we wanted to see to hit DVD/BluRay. The theater seats were filthy and tiny, reminiscent of today's airline seating or even worse. The screens and sound system were not up to modern standards, and the prices had become ridiculous. In other parts of the country theaters were upgrading seating to large adjustable seats with lots of room, offering higher quality food and drink, letting people reserve seats, and in general making the customer feel like the experience was worth the money. Since the pandemic we haven't been in either of our local AMC theaters, and we have no intention of doing so unless we get new ownership that completely updates the facilities and the experience.
This is my AMC in Vegas. It's filthy, the drink machines never work, they still only offer popcorn and basic snacks, and they never updated the seating to recliners. Only 1 theater had them the last time I went. I moved here from a place that had a decent AMC where I could have dinner and a movie with the stubs a-list sub. I cancelled that sub and went with regal who has the better theaters here. But again, regal changed their subscription and now isn't worth it...and now they're going out of business. I don't know why these companies don't do family plan subs, either. But either way, AMC where I live isn't worth going to and they cost too much for too little service.
Its too late now because Sometimes a company has to learn how to evolve or come to realize that people don't need to go watch movies in a unsanitary place, Netflix and others have been around for over a decade now and if amc couldn't realize since then they won't also realize that they will go out of business and have to fold and go under like how so many companies have become irrelevant
@@MrDwightsimon one subscription and the free movie app has all the movies for free so go sit in one of those abandoned theaters by yourself, it may suit you and maybe you can give them the 6 billion
They forgot to mention that theaters like AMC are not well maintained in many areas of the country. Many are very dirty and haven't been renovated in decades with very limited food options. If they move to an Alamo Drathouse format and renovate they may have a chance.
I had been going to movies more just before the pandemic as the quality of the theaters improved with better seating and cocktails being served in-theaters.
Most of the moviegoers are teenagers and college students. The tickets are too expensive, popcorn & coke costs like $15, it’s too ridiculous expensive for kids and young people.
Cinema are always the best way to watch films. I’d rather go to a cinema and watch mission impossible, eating pop corn and drinking my Guaraná antártica than staying at home and watching on paramount with low quality audio
I hate when originally planned theatrical movies go to Netflix and other streaming services because they don’t get released on Blu-ray or DVD and it ruins the box office performance of those good popular movies. I hope Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, and other streaming services release their content on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K because that would definitely increase both the movie theaters and streaming industry and also improve the economy. I hope both movie theaters and streaming survive the changing times and technologies for the future.
People forget, Long before the Pandemic, Hollywood was trying their best to get viewers back in the theaters as numbers had severely dropped. The pandemic simply exacerbated the problem. The real reason why theater viewing had fallen off was due to a rash of very disappointing high profile films, along with the movie experience having long become very very bad. The theaters themselves run poorly by poorly trained, underpaid staff. Theater equipment out dated, and all this with an increase in cost for tickets. But ticket sales really wasn't what kept people away, The overall costs had become astronomical. The cost of concession stand snack items was just overpriced, No one should be spending $300 and more just to take their family out to see a movie with some popcorn, but that's what its grown into. And on top of high cost, another distraction was who was attending theater viewing... Loud noisy kids. Theaters became a hotspot for kids attending but seldom ever actually watching the film. Going to the theater placing 80 percent of their attention on each other talking or on their smartphones laughing it up, making the experience for those who came to actually watch the film simply intolerable. Better off not wasting your movie on a bad experience and what however months for it to be released by other means. Then you can watch the film in peace with no distractions. The movie going experience needed to change all together. And with that said, i may point out an experience that has recently blown my mind away. A theater experience which was top notch in every regard, all at the comfort of my home. An expensive home theater you say? No. not at all. I watched a movie in a theater via the BigScreen App for the Oculus Quest2. WOW! several theater types to choose from All of which feels and looks real!! NO i really Mean this!!! you have to try this!!!! This applications places you in one of several theaters to choose from with all the hallmarks of a real theatrical experience. AND you can watch 3d films that are simply perfect. Dare i say, if you can bare wearing the VR headset for such a period of time, with a break or two between. This experience is so good you really Dont have to goto a theater. AND ironically enough, you can attend these virtual movie going experiences with other avatar friends and other attendees. and block them out if so desired. its truly a game changer.
I think the main reason cinema's are failing is the fact that theres so much content to watch these days. Why go to the movies when you can watch everything at home?
@@chinarut for my family of 4 it's now approximately $200. 4 tickets are $80. A large popcorn to share brings it to $120. Small drinks for everyone brings it to $160. A candy or 2 brings it to $180 and the gas to get there and back brings it to $200. Add in that I was a regal and amc subscriber with points and they changed their system so I could only use one free ticket at a time at regal. Amc where I live always has broken soda machines, the old style chairs in all but 1 theater, no food options, and was not worth keeping. We are also lucky enough to have a drive-in where I live so that's where we go. It's inexpensive, we can bring our own snacks and only buy popcorn. So it's about $50 for an outing. Truly, going to a theater is no longer an option for most people these days. I love movies, I used to go daily when I had movie pass and amc and regal subs, but that's a thing of the past. I have a much better time at home.
Low trust diverse society creates bad environment for collective experiences, and their need to cater to the claimed ideology of these demographics ruin stories as they are against nature.
Wanda no longer owns them, it also will expand to Latin America that even AMC dominates Brazil all because of Santamaria Group, to say a former Colombian millionaire or to say the day that a Colombian American buys AMC, is the day that AMC becomes a monopoly in Brazil.
Lower prices otherwise why would you go there when you can wait 45 days and stream. The experience is no longer worth paying $20 a ticket when you can pay $20 a month for thousands of movies
The last movie I went to see was Avatar 2, and a guy took a phone call about a car he was buying 3/4 into it. I haven’t returned to the movie theater after that.
AMC was my favorite in the city. But they left. But I haven't been to the cinema since 2019 and actually don't even feel a want to. Movies are expensive. Snacks even more.
The theaters should have La-Z-Boy loungers, fewer seats per theater, seats situated higher to prevent blockage, and IMAX sized screens. And then I will consider going to one.
For all the talk of expanding into new businesses, I never understood why theaters didn't utilize their core strengths and resources for things like conventions, TED talks, eSports, Super Bowl parties, weddings, etc. I feel like there's so much you can do with theaters, basically anything that could use a big screen, lots of seating, and food. I know they only have so much space, but I've gone into lots of movie showings where the theater was nearly empty, so I feel like they must have some unused capacity. And for what it's worth, if they're seriously capacity-constrained for all those uses, that would suggest the potential of opening even more locations to meet that demand. I feel like instead of showing the same movie 5 times in a row on a single screen, that could be consolidated down to 2 showings, and then the space could be used for other events. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like there's so much money-making potential there.
Hell no, unless they get rid of non profitable locations and have less competition. On the other hand, they can take advantage of the APEs and keep raising cash as needed
People have been saying the move theatre is dying since the invention of television. The need for the group experience of art will always be there, I don’t see theatres going anywhere
Why don’t they have a app where we can watch the movie up to a week early before and other streamers and go puff delivering popcorn candy and hot dogs 🌭 for 29.99 a month ?!
I find it funny he compares cooking to movies. The reason people go out to eat is that it is an easy and convenient way to get food fast, at a better quality or something you have never had before. Me watching a movie on my computer vs in a theater makes little difference in the theaters favor, if anything it better at home as you watch it however you want.
Theatre chains don't deserve to survive. Years of preference showing almost exclusively "superhero action movies" catering to kids & immature adults has made REAL film fans who like normal dramatic & comedy stories upset. Now they're staying home streaming movies. There's a problem when a legend like Scorsese's last 2 films were rejected by AMC & he's forced to stream his films.
@@liquidminds lmao you can just make popcorn at home. I feel like getting food from the movie theater is the biggest scam, that’s why a lot of people just sneak their own food in.

If theaters were multi purpose (showing movies but also live theater productions, music, comedy, etc.), they would be more of an asset to the community and would be able to survive certain market changes due to the diversification of their offerings. Additionally, a MovieTavern model where you can eat dinner while watching a movie, and making the movie watching experience more comfortable, would go a long way. But right now, I just don't want to sit in a room with a bunch of people who have Covid. So I've only see like 1 movie in the theaters since the pandemic.
What if a theater concept started as an experiment. That would be:Set up a theater where personal vehicles drove in and folks sat in their vehicles and watched a movie on a 120'× 250' screen..A central location could sell popcorn, candy, and soda.Restroom could be built near concession .One could click on a cell app to get sound!! Then...pick it up in stereo with your vehicle !
They didn’t mention the lack of good movies coming out. I used to pay for stubs list and could take advantage of those free movie offers there was always at least 1 good movie a month now I can’t think of a single movie in the next few weeks I’m looking to watch
I know me too! Last movie I saw was Thor only cause my friend covered me. The next movie I’ll see will release on September 23rd. Well at least I’m saving money 😏 I don’t know what happened

Some or many already fixed a room in their home to be a theater anytime so places are loosing trafic over time even before the pandemic for any reason.
AMC no not anymore ...pushy managers, rude staff , unclean spaces , rather own the movie 🍿 without the heavy handed over inflated price for snacks . Nuff said 🎬
first time I went to an amc cinema was in rockaway outer six a year before it closed due to lease and then became a best buy. This was an excellent report. I KNOW my rig is not as good as a giant theater screen but it is good enough for me to not need theaters anymore. It is an Epson 4K Projector on to a separate screen; trust me, it is STUNNING. It has the exact same characteristics: No reflections, about a 170-degree viewing angle, and none of my theater complaints as follows. On Flight 93, a somber film involving 9-11 these two spoiled brats talked incessantly and LOUD all the way through it. Toward the end, with about 15 minutes remaining, they left! I couldn't believe it. For me to tell them to STFU I would have had to walk over to them and make a big scene.
Our local theaters is pretty good with being updated. I think it’s depends on the theater but I prefer watching the physical copies of the movies.
But either way, AMC where I live isn't worth going to and they cost too much for too little service.
great video. AMC will always get my money with A list, I make so many reservations that I never go to
Its too late now because Sometimes a company has to learn how to evolve or come to realize that people don't need to go watch movies in a unsanitary place, Netflix and others have been around for over a decade now and if amc couldn't realize since then they won't also realize that they will go out of business and have to fold and go under like how so many companies have become irrelevant
Netflix sucks and no one wants to pay for 100 different streaming services. I will watch my movies the old fashioned way!
Can’t speak for how AMC is outside the coasts. But I’ve been to the AMC in Emeryville, LA, and Vegas and they’re great!
I pitched in the summer of 2020 and bought over 300 shares of AMC. I wish I had bought more.
AMC Shareholders were robbed by private equity.
The only way people are getting into the movie theaters is if they're going on a date
Screw the entire movie industry from the bottom up. 😤
We at least go 5 times a month to AMC! We love the big screen ❤️
No way, I call bs... what movies even come out in that short time frame.
@@whouse7 😂
u guys fall to mention the billions of synthetic shares only people in the market will understand everyday people won’t get it
People forget, Long before the Pandemic, Hollywood was trying their best to get viewers back in the theaters as numbers had severely dropped.
Why go to the movies when you can watch everything at home?
wow could you tell us what $300 go towards?
@@chinarut family of 5 $50 each, tickets & concessions.. gas and more if you consider dinner after.
Interesting seeing this when AMC is releasing APE dividend during this week 🚀🚀🚀🚀
This^
Yeah amc about to drop
You got to create an experience now , not just charge 25$ for a soda and 20$ for a ticket....
AMC Theaters will make a strong comeback!
I agree. These days you can even pirate. It’s not even worth it anymore
@@thephilosopher5799 Yep tho pirating came before steaming. It was the OG steam.
Get thier stock while its low. AMC stock will be at $30-$40 this time next year.
I stopped going when the cell phone crowd and the talker crowd started showing up to every movie. I'll just watch it at home from now on.
Yeah the put themselves there prioritizing "market shares" rather than providing better viewings experience
DAMN RIGHT they will. $AMC to the moon. CRUSH short sellers.
Theres nothing like the movie experience as in going to the movies, my family and I absolutely love going to amc theatres
Hell no, unless they get rid of non profitable locations and have less competition. On the other hand, they can take advantage of the APEs and keep raising cash as needed
Also nice that CNBC is Talking about AMC but they missing soo much Puzzles in this whole SAGA ! THE PEOPLE SAVED AMC
People have been saying the move theatre is dying since the invention of television. The need for the group experience of art will always be there, I don’t see theatres going anywhere
This is a question for Regal and independent movie theaters as well.
Why don’t they have a app where we can watch the movie up to a week early before and other streamers and go puff delivering popcorn candy and hot dogs 🌭 for 29.99 a month ?!
It all depends on the size of the screen, & the perks that go with it, I guess.
Because crack is illegal
I find it funny he compares cooking to movies. The reason people go out to eat is that it is an easy and convenient way to get food fast, at a better quality or something you have never had before. Me watching a movie on my computer vs in a theater makes little difference in the theaters favor, if anything it better at home as you watch it however you want.
So watching a movie on computer is same as watching it on imax explain to me how does sre the same
Their streaming service is gonna crash after better call Saul ends tonight
Lol
They just ended their good show
Theatre chains don't deserve to survive. Years of preference showing almost exclusively "superhero action movies" catering to kids & immature adults has made REAL film fans who like normal dramatic & comedy stories upset. Now they're staying home streaming movies. There's a problem when a legend like Scorsese's last 2 films were rejected by AMC & he's forced to stream his films.
the movies is still a better experience an at home with imax, dolby atmos, 4DX.
The new model like the Alemo seem to be doing better
Not with their ever increasing ticket prices.
I'm watching movies almost weekly at movie theater. It's more enjoyable to watch movies on big screen with best sound sistem then watch movies at home
i dont think we'll stop going to the movie theatre
With streaming services Snack Prices are reasonable, u can pause to go to the bathroom
If a movie is shot in IMAX, I make an effort to watch it at IMAX. Otherwise, I’m indifferent to watching it at home or a theatre.
You can order theatre-quality popcorn from AMC.
@@liquidminds lmao you can just make popcorn at home. I feel like getting food from the movie theater is the biggest scam, that’s why a lot of people just sneak their own food in.
@@thephilosopher5799 The scam is that the movie studios charge so much that the profit margin on the movies is basically zero. The Food is almost 100% of the cinemas income.
blame hollywood...
Ppl blame their reason for not going on price. But with enough reasearch/planning. I spend $9 on a ticket + snacks
And the theaters have reclining seats now
There are a lot of dedicated movie goers. They may take a hit, but going away completely I don't see.
I mean the AMC in Dartmouth, Ma is pretty popular they usually are busy any day
$30 for ticket and food, 30 min drive away and need to plan a day in advance. Rather watch it at home.
Come to Canada! It's all Cineplex and Landmark theaters where I live.
@@KeturaSaint-Fleurose You’re kidding right? 🤣

I know I missed a bunch 🤣
Movie theatres are on 🔥 for the last 6 months
Humans need to get out, interact with others and socialize so streaming and home theaters won't replace the theaters.
Theaters are outdated these days
Some or many already fixed a room in their home to be a theater anytime so places are loosing trafic over time even before the pandemic for any reason.
@@cable30 Either the theater makes new innovations to attach audience or else be closed by the streamers
Okay Boomer
Naw humans are annoying and always start stuff
Motorized bicycles, skate boards, bowling allies ,live music
I hope most movie theaters survive in this world 🌎
I started going to the movies more since 2020. I like the experience. I'm a Dolby Cinema kind of guy.
AMC no not anymore ...pushy managers, rude staff , unclean spaces , rather own the movie 🍿 without the heavy handed over inflated price for snacks . Nuff said 🎬
I will always enjoy going to movie theaters then watching it at home
first time I went to an amc cinema was in rockaway outer six a year before it closed due to lease and then became a best buy. I then went to an amc in Bridgewater that was once a general cinema during their buying spree when general cinema went bankrupt. they soon gobbled up other chains including loews and soon became the biggest name in cinemas. the current amc rockaway 16 is great but needs fixing.
AMC: We need a miles morales spiderman movie do it now!!!
Marvel: give me that staff job .... and double the money
This has happened many times and it is a deal breaker for me.😧Best of luck to all the theater companies involved!
Yeah home theater systems are taking over and overtime movie theaters get too expensive. I can only go to the movies on discount Tuesday.
This is.an.amazing comment section for unique debates love keep up the best journalism and viewer enteraction alive
4DX in Regal is killing it, AMC has nothing to compete with that.
Except everything
Idk about you. But I don’t think I’ll ever step foot into a theater again. Lol.
Casually talks about the small retail investors saved the multimillion dollar company and doesn’t even say thank you
AMC Tuesdays are the best!!! half off all movies!!!
If the theater dies so will Hollywood
They need to bring the old cheese dip back
MOASS IS COMING!
I go to movie theaters once per year. I think the last one I saw was James Bond.
If you don't want to watch the video the answer is Yes..AMC will survive
