Instead it became the trend to use notoriety to for leverage. The star system staged managed stars and paid off papers for sexual faux pas. But if you played up too much, you were dropped. Where as today the reverse happens, it is your ability to create identity which is more important, your personal life is in the limelight. You cannot go home after the show and turn off or talking about your work objectively as a serious artist. The separation between personal individuality and public performance has gone,the new stardom reinvented in the modern age.
