I find your ability to explain these things easily to me (a tech idiot) amazing. Obviously I still need more information but you give me somewhere to start. Thank you for your time & knowledge.
So few of us have the opportunity to live in Longmont, CO, home of the fastest fiber optic cable network. I rarely see speedtest under 900. A month ago my speed dropped to 150 and I realized I had changed some of my router settings. Went back and reset - voila, 940. I'm a happy guy and my youtube vids run flawlessly. 2560x1600? No problem. And that's while I'm rendering solid models in SolidWorks in the background. The future dropped into my lap 2 years ago.
Please consider investigating more recent device(s) that claim to override speed throttling by ISPs. I know you addressed this about 9 months ago. My ISP charges me of 40 Mbps. When things are running well I get 36 Mbps down. Tech working on system says they view 80% of stated rate or 32Mbps as “acceptable”. He said they throttle the absolute capacity of individual lines to somewhere between 40 and 32 to manage the overall cost of providing service . Trouble is I am often getting only 6 to 8 Mbps (Speedtest). When I complain they make it better, then it degrades again.. I suspect it is throttling more when resources are being heavily used (like when kids are off school for the holidays). Thanks for considering whether this is likely and can be overcome or just not likely. Happy 2022!
Liron! Thank you so much for this information you save me a ton of time or I could not find information anywhere else. I learned so much about extenders and so forth. I’m getting the X 20 so happy! Thanks again man.
What is the model of the Before router? I’m surprised to see the Deco is that much faster up close. It seems like that would slightly skew the other measurements.
I just bought the deco x55 and I have it connected to my cable modem/WiFi router . I noticed that I don’t get the speed when from the deco network. I get about half the speed. Through my cable modem/ router I get 300 and through deco I get about 120.
Thanks for the video Liron, this helped me decide to build my deco mesh, but I am running into a small hiccup! I have 600mb from the ISP, and my main router can handle it, although it gets up to 520-540mbs which I am ok with it, but on the deco(AC1200) the speeds tops at 100mb... I tried forums and tips like modifying the negotiation speed in the hardware on my pc, or trying to connect directly to the deco, but I do not seems to find the setting to removed this cap, any tips, suggestions? TIA
Hi Rodolfo, Not sure if this is already fixed but I have the same exact problem with my deco. The main one works perfectly but the other 2 does not seem to be getting even half of the speeds from my main one. Let me know if you got this figured out.
oh wow that is some big surface to cover 😜. I would start with 3 and see how much coverage you get with different placement of the nodes. Then get more nodes if you need them. Mesh is really smart so you might just get away with buying less. Or say screw it and just get a bunch and you will be smiling at every point in your home!😉
Your videos are very helpful. Do you create them yourself. I like the way you integrate images of the device and test results on wifi and router tests. Thanks.
Nice work as usual. Going the Deco X20 route means I'd replace my current ASUS router that has USB with this one that does not. Any suggestions on alternate Mesh Routers from Deco that would provide similar benefits to the X20?
Liron... I use a WiFi system that requires the device have a MicroSD card to connect to the cell tower 5 miles away.... I am trying to find the best router to receive the signal or a way to boost the incoming signal..... any suggestions?
Hi Liron, If the mesh push out faster speeds why do you have multiple through out the house? I thought the point of this was to not have all these contraptions around the house? :)
Speed and distance are not the same thing. In fact 2.4Ghz is slower than 5Ghz but has a longer range. The point of Mesh is that the nodes work together to blanket the house in wifi signals and intelligently work out the best way to get info to and from the devices avoiding data collisions.
I went Mesh a month or more ago. It was installed by the ISP. My system does not use a modem, just the two MESH routers. I pay for 1 Gig and I get about 940 Mbps.
great for the speed, but you definitely have a modem. The modem needs to convert the signal from the line that the ISP runs to your house into data that your network can use. It may not be a different standalone device but may be integrated into a combo unit.
I just came across your channel and subscribed. I'm hoping you can give me some advice because I don't know anything about computers. I just bought a ring pro 2 and its at my front door at the bottom of a flight of stairs from my optimum wifi router and I only have 1 bar. So how can I get better wifi to it? Do I buy a new/better wifi router or a extender or a mesh thing. I don't want the ring chime pro extender because I don't need a chime.... thanks for any help you can give me
Can you name your network the same as the current network you have on the old router so as not to have to reconnect all the current devices connected to the old network. Thanks.
Hi, I see many videos about this topic but nobody seems to answer in strait forward manner. How is it possible to get faster internet speed than what you pay for? I have 100mbps on my router, and thats what I pay for, how can my speed increase when my provider allowes only 100mbps?
What you’re trying to do is get rid of the problems that are keeping you from getting what you pay for, thereby increasing the speeds you currently get.
Hi so if I'm understanding correctly..i can connect this to my Sky router and get more wifi data to say my PlayStation the front room than I was getting before.Router is in another room.
you got it! You are not going to get more internet speed than you pay for, but what you will get is optimal internal wifi speed to get to your Sky router. Just a heads up: the original PS4 only has 2.4Ghz wifi so there is only so much you can do.
Thanks for the video. New subscriber. Can you do a video on the deco app? It seems to have lots of controls to go over. I would like to see how to access my network remotely. Maybe parental controls, smart devices, etc thanks
Did you notice the 4g LTE bands used? Can it be used by all providers? I am not sure your comment that it works with ALL providers. Please respond to my questions. I enjoy your channel.
If the mesh push out faster speeds why do you have multiple through out the house? I thought the point of this was to not have all these contraptions around the house?
Not true actually. It makes communication between various devices on the local Wi-Fi network faster no matter what your internet connection speed is. But sure, it won’t make your internet connection any faster.
OK I love this review, One question, I have the GL.iNet GL-AR750S-Ext (Slate) as you suggested, tethered to a visible phone as my ISP (it's the best internet I can get out here), Can I hook this system to the slate, add the second decomesh wirelessly in another room, hook my 4 bay server up to it with a lan cable and make it my remote backup?
hmmm if I understood you correctly it technically sounds like you can. The phone is the ISP -> Slate is the router -> hook this up to a port on the slate.
Thanks for all the free info. What app are you using to measure both wifi speed and signal strength in various locations? Is it an android app? Is it available for iOS? Thanks!
About to get a new house and I think i will buy this next month in preparation. Currently have cords running all over the apartment because our wifi is a joke. Hope this helps haha
even with old copper you still pay for a set speed. If your ISP isnt giving you that speed. Ask them to come out and check the lines. Also check this out: th-cam.com/video/fkmY1gM5a6I/w-d-xo.html
I use tmobile 5g home internet no matter what i do I always get 30 down and 25 upload I also get 2 bars when tower is like 1 to 2miles away I'm also in a 5g uc area and still get bad speeds even on a 5g phone
it happens :) I had a WiFi range extender that didn't do its job so I returned that too. Tech changes over time and these companies evolve. I don't let one experience stop me from experiencing new tech. I just look for a return policy to make 😂
I have X20. It's ok, not great. It can't really go through walls which kind of defeats the purpose. Even if you turn off 2.4Ghz, the back haul still stays active polluting the airwaves. Same for 5Ghz. There's no way to select what deco to connect to on your 3rd deco. Each hop reduces bandwidth by more than half. I don't understand why considering it has a dedicated backhaul wifi channel. You have no control over any of the channels and it seems prone to choose the most congested channels. So when it works, it works great. When it doesn't work, there's absolutely nothing you can do because they took all the options out of it and you may as well throw it out or return it if you can. And network optimization does absolutely nothing.
@@LironSegev Yeah, it's updated. I even called tech support. They just gave me a scripted line that various things can affect speeds. I would not recommend this product.
It can be: it is not Wifi6 that's more secure, WPA3 is which can also work on 11ac (Wifi5) and 11n (Wifi4). That is Windows 10 (version 2004) or newer with supported hardware (all 11ax, 11ac Wifi devices support it, and some 11n do), macOS Catalina or newer on 11ac or 11ax devices, Android 10+ on 11ac, iPhone 7 or newer... But that security will only be available once *every* device you're using supports it.
I find your ability to explain these things easily to me (a tech idiot) amazing. Obviously I still need more information but you give me somewhere to start. Thank you for your time & knowledge.

the best part of deco is that it looks like a decorative lamp or a speaker but no one can imagine that its emitting em waves

Before installing NordVPN, my speed was at ~230 mps, after install at ~190 mps. Would this Mesh WiFi fix that?
not really since mesh handles your internal home wifi and this sounds like its the NordVPN server that is slow
Ok thanks Liron.
For some reason my deco software doesn't have some of the options mentioned here such as optimisation.

faster wifi doesn't mean a greater range. In fact, 2.4Ghz is slower than 5Ghz but it has a much longer range.
You left out: speeding up your wifi will do nothing if your bandwidth can't match it.
well that's obvious. If you pay for 50Mbps you aren't going to magically get 100Mbps 😂
