- Chasing a fuel related issue or just bringing service items up to date? This fuel filter replacement guide can help, with some fun nonsense along the way!
The process used in this video will be nearly identical for a range of Ford Falcon's (EA / EB / ED / EF / EL / AU / BA / BF / FG) and Territory's (SX / SY / SZ) as well as being similar on many other vehicles.
Plenty more to come on this BA Falcon including all the usual mods, performance upgrades and a good tidy up as well as loads of other projects from the garage.
Hope this helps, thanks for watching and please consider subscribing for more if you enjoyed.

Really enjoy your vids on the BA! Keep em comming! BF Fairmont Ghia owner in Sydney :)
Thanks very much mate 👍. Plenty more to come on the BA.
Been following your channel Browney as I mod and service my ba xr6. Done cabin filter air filter fuel filter pool noodle saggy bumper trick spark plugs new audio and shifter plate. Great work on your videos. You make things very east to understand for us backyard mechanics. Cheers mate.
Nice, sounds like you're all over it! Thanks for your kind watching and watching along, cheers mate.
thanks Browney for the effort here, I did this inside of 10minutes because I had seen how it is done. Dead easy!
If you open the gas cap it relives the pressure in the tank helping to stop excessive fuel leaking whilst changing the filter
@Craig Files Thanks Craig, that's an awesome tip that I should have mentioned. Have heard that before but I always bloody forgot to do it... and probably will again next time to be honest!
@@BrowneysGarage i have a FG G6 Limited edition i have done all my own services since i was 20 some 34 yrs now, i like to see how others do theirs i thought a couple of months ago i should record how to do servicing so others could learn & than i found your vids, modifications i have done, braided brake lines & slotted rotors, cold air intake, full exhaust like yours from DEA, shocks & springs, wheels & tyres & airbrushed my 2nd bonnet in 2019 now doing a different image on it for this year like you i serviced everything when i bought it in 2017 keep up the great content kids need to learn our knowledge
@Craig Files Nice mate, sounds awesome and glad to hear from someone looking to help others. I hope that at very least I can save a few people from making the mistakes I have, but I’m sure I’ll make plenty more along the way!
nooo. the fuel pump isnt turned on so theres no fuel being pumped into that line. you can prime it 3 or 4 times and squirt the dirty line out though.
Love the video great energy relaxed information.
One thing is don’t let tank get bellow quarter of a tank and fuel filter will last to the 90 k interval
Thanks very much mate. Should be ok, I hate running the tank low in any of the cars normally anyway - just one of many things I'm a mental about! 😂
With Australian fuel ranking 70th worst in the world, change/flush it every 5000kms. Flush it and watch the filthy water run out.
lol, everybody is doing the exact opposite, putting in just enough for immediate use. Fuel filter is $25 who cares if it lasts only 50000! It would be better to warn them about their diff or trans oil, that they never change.
Just did my filter. It was a piece of cake. I didn't bother with the fuel pump relay. The car had been sitting a few days and I undid the lines slowly so as not to get sprayed with fuel.
The line going to the engine slides forward so that makes a bit of room to remove and replace the filter.
Make sure the area where you are doing the job is well ventilated so save you from fuel vapor getting to you or building up in your garage.
Have a tray and a rag ready for any spillage so as not to have the fuel run along your arm. Wear glasses or keep your head away to make sure you don't get fuel splashed in your eyes or face like Browney says it burns your skin.🔧👍
Awesome tip on how to depressurise the fuel system.
Petrol smells ten times better than Lynx Africa, you might be on to something there. Got my chrome shifter plate in the post thanks to your video on that. Cheers Browney.
Right! Awesome, hope you enjoy it mate. Thanks 👍
Thanks for this once again. I'll give it a whirl myself when I get a moment. Been running on LPG for ages but it was pinging on WOT so recently started just giving the thing pump 98 and it has been much happier. Unlike my wallet : /
My diff builder is piecing together a BF M80 rear end with 3.9s and an LSD. Looking forward to that : )
Shame LPG is getting so expensive now, but might make you feel a bit better about running the 98! 3.9's will feel awesome, good luck 👍
Does LPG even have a fuel filter outside the convertor on the egas falcons
Those nuts weren't very tight when i did mine awhile back they were as tight as, they came undone with a massive crack and one spanner flew across the floor lol I have a little story to tell about fuel filters. Years back i bought a secondhand BMW 5 series e39 wagon it had around 200 000 ks and was around 8 years old. I like you change filters and also hoses and belts etc when i buy a secondhand car as you never know when a hose might pop. Well when i changed the big long quite expensive (despite my trade connections) fuel filter low and behold it still had the original filter on it judging by the date on it. This is a car with a sticker price when new of $120 000.00 and you would assume it should of been dealer changed at some time. It was in a spot where the average person would never know. I myself worked in the automotive reconditioning business for a long time and spent time in dealer workshops fixing things the mechanics had broken and things i have seen over the years with relatives cars etc , when someone tells me it has been dealer serviced that means nothing to me expect the fact that if i work on it expect anything. PS the bmw was the nicest car i have driven but also the most unreliable by far in fact it is the only car that has ever let me down while driving, oil burner as well euro cars use crappy oil rings i will never buy another euro car.
Hi Grant, and thanks for reaffirming another reason why I like to DIY everything I can. I may not be a great mechanic but at least I know what I'm getting and that the car is being taken car of - even if it is normally an old beater for most of mine!
Similar thinking for me with the 'dealer serviced' is when a car for sale ad says the owner is a mechanic as if that's given to be a positive thing. Some take amazing car of them but in general I completely understand the guys that run them into the ground cause the last thing they want to do after work is work on another damn car!
Shame about the E39, I do quite like the look of them. All the best mate.
Actually common knowlage..
Loving your content dude! Looking forward to more
@Z-MaGGoT’s Gamin Thanks heaps mate, plenty more to come 👍
Try undoing both ends that are cross threaded!! SZ Territory had this, ended up getting the entire line from a wreck.
Don't you love when the simplest job turns into a pain in the butt! Been there mate, nice work sorting it properly 👍
I have been getting my BA ex-Taxi Wagon back to roadworthy for the last five years. Rebuilding one complete System at a time. I have reverse engineered all of the missing bolts, clips, brackets, jerry rigged sedan bits, all from Taxi Mechanics "just getting her on the road, as quick as possible" for 7 years of her life. Over a million kms chassis. I feel your pain)
That video is as good as all your others.
Hope your back's getting better. 👍
@Ken Dunn Thanks Ken and cheers for your support mate 👍. Back is getting close to normal and back to doing pretty much everything I was before, next video is in the works and looking like a good one!
Hope you’re well mate.
Love your videos keep them up.
Just found this new cool channel!
Hey thanks mate, hope you enjoy what we’re doing 👍
Hi Browney, Can you do a video on faulty fuel pump symptoms in a BA xr6 Falcon. I am not sure if I need to replace mine . It has stuttering problems when Accelerating in gear. Seems to idle ok .
Nice job Thanks
G'day have you ever experienced a subtle fuel leak from the fuel line connections to the filter? I can smell fuel coming from the passenger side, in the vicinity of the filter. Cheers
Thanks Browny your a legend 😎☝️✅
Too good, thanks Terry 👍
Thanks for your video. I enjoyed it. When you say ‘prime’ the lines after putting in the new filter, what exactly does that involve? Is it just cranking the motor without the fuel relay in or something else?
@Bernhard K To prime the fuel system have everything connected including fuel pump relay and just turn the key from off to the on position (one before starting) for a few seconds a few times. You'll hear the fuel pump whir on when doing this, just pressurizes the fuel system again so you can check for leaks without starting the car.
Unfortunately this depressurise method doesn't work for 2009 FG falcons. If I unplug the fuel pump relay the car will refuse to even crank. So i think ill have to start the car first and then unplug the relay afterwards.
Hi Browne, just wondering if you couldhelp me. I changedthe light bulb on my xr6 so i took out the battery. After putting back the battery and now i have problems with the idle rpm is not normal. Please
Hey Browney,
Just wondering if this is the same process on the LPG models. I've recently landed myself an 05 blacked out spec LPG XL one tonner. whilst trying to identify a gas leak, I've come across and re-watched your videos, always informative. Cheers
Couldn’t say for certain but I’d be betting it would be quite different sorry mate. Will be tough to find info as I’m sure you’re finding cause most people just want to say only gas experts should touch, but if a shame.
Sorry I can’t be of more help but good luck 👍
Oh wait until you get one at 246,000 and suspect it’s never been changed and the fitting is rust welded to the filter.
I cut the filter in half … well hacked it in half. On the engine side I used a disconnect tool and drilled out and chiseled the rivets holding the line in …. I could now stick the filter in a vise and spanner the fitting off without twisting and bending the fuel line.
The tank side is now way easier to get off as your not fighting the engine side fuel line.
Went back on with some anti seize and some AC Delco sealant so it wont corrode in place again.
Have you covered lower control arms at all?
I haven't sorry mate, no plans to do so in the works but you never know what might pop up! 👍
Hey Browney, I just did the fuel filter and now the car runs very rough and won't go past 3000 rev.
Got no-one to ask, nor heaps of money, so hoping you or the fellow subscribers can help.
Cheers mate, from a stressed out guy.
Did you install it the correct way? Should have an arrow on the side which shows the direction of flow, point this to the front of the car.
If that doesn’t work was anything else touched when doing it?
@@BrowneysGarage lol, yeah I made sure to install it the correct direction, it's something else, I'm worried it's my injectors, but research says it could be anything from cat, to clutch, to O2 sensor.
@Simon So it was doing this before the filter change? If not try rule out anything you’ve touched as part of it?
Otherwise good luck, could be a lot of things and going to be way too hard to diagnose online... especially for a hack like me!
@@BrowneysGarage I suffer from anxiety, so I'm now thinking I did a dick thing and possibly put it in backwards, well I'm hoping 😬. But yeah it was running rough before, don't think it had ever been changed by previous owners, but I really appreciate you responding, and keep up the awesome channel, thanks again 😁🤘.
Is there a tool to remove a Ford Territory fuel line that connect to the fuel filter?
It took me 2 hours to change what's the fastest way it was leaking after 15 times I try to fit it it was a mission. Any tricks??
will this be the same procedure for a mk2 2014 na fg
Can't say for sure sorry, but you'll be able to tell quick enough just by having a look under to see if yours is similar, or even by looking up the replacement fuel filter maybe?
Hey Browney just got my son a BA and after changing the battery , battery light stays on (dimly) checked the alt and its charging at 14.6v. any ideas ive changed the battery fuses still the same.
@Duncan Cameron Bugger, sounds like an odd one. It definitely holds voltage with revs as well, not just idle (should of course but just seems strange)? I haven't dealt with it sorry but I guess just double check alternator is charging at all times and not intermittently on the way out, then check wiring and earth at battery, to alternator, main earth etc I guess? Sorry I can't be more help mate, I'm far from an expert.
got a alt from the Wreckers . problem solved
Perfect, nice and easy fix then. Hope your son enjoys his new car mate 👍
Is there a tool to remove a Ford Territory fuel line that connect to the fuel filter?
Didn't know they were a different fitting, not one of the push lock fittings similar to those on this era Falcon fuel pumps? If so the linked tool may help, or they can be done with with small flat blade screwdrivers and will likely show the method in an upcoming fuel pump ep. (www.repco.com.au/en/tools-equipment/automotive-tools/engine-drivetrain/endeavour-fuel-line-disconnect-kit-et3056vp/p/A9614186)
nice beard
Hey mate, EF Ghia owner Lake Macquarie. Having some minor issues under demand (like stuttering). Could this be the issue? Fuel filter?
@Jarrod Baldwin If I’m honest, and you probably won’t like this, any time I’ve looked into an issue like this it’s been notoriously tough to nail down because it’s seems a load of factors can have a similar effect.
Fuel filter and spark plugs would be good and cheap places to start though, try ruling out basics first I’d say.
Good luck mate.
@@BrowneysGarage hey mate, One more question, have replaced filter, how do i prime it up, I believe it's self bleeding?? Turn the key to acc?
@Jarrod Baldwin That’s it mate. Just turn the key to the second click, on position, and you should hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds.Check for leaks and if all is good start it as normal and quickly check again to be sure 👍
@@BrowneysGarage thanks heaps mate, running fine, no leaks!
Love to be able to show you what my filter was like....much dirtier than in the video hahaha like black
@Jarrod Baldwin That’s awesome man, nice one. Love seeing an E-series falcon getting some love too, working towards a project E-series we have here in the not too distant future.
I believe it mate, definitely something that gets overlooked - I’m sure I’ll forget to do it again in the future on a car!
I just changed mine n now it leaks from out end
Hi what size spanners are needed?
3:12 👍
What brand fuel filter did you put?
Just a Ryco mate.
What is he doing to prime it?
Turn the key to the on position 👍
Whoops,
2 people disliked this... they must use linx Africa
To be fair I don't really mind the smell of it that much, but no one said I have good taste.
G'day mate, with the AU SII is it a female to female connection like you have on your filter, as in two nuts (insert lady boys from Thailand joke.)
I feel like I may need a male and female-one nut and one prong.
I grabbed a Ryco Z373 so maybe I grabbed the wrong one
@Chad Rilcon Weird, Ryco themselves list 2 different part numbers with no explanation. Might just have to stick your head under there sorry mate, no idea here.
@@BrowneysGarage thanks mate
Could have showed how to prime the fuel..................Hm!
Here’s the priming procedure - turn the key to the on position a few times... that’s it👍
