Fantastic tutorial!! I feel like you might be talking directly to me. The tip about locating semi tone notes on the outer row is priceless. I'll be watching this lesson several times over for sure. Keep 'em coming!!

A few questions? I live in the United States and I was wondering what it is a good 2 row button accordion for a beginner? Also what brand is the 2 row button accordion that you are using in this video? Thank You.

Hi there, sorry to be slow in replying. There's a few tips on what sort of box to start with in this video of mine: th-cam.com/video/4ALsE5viGAk/w-d-xo.html I'd recommend a Saltarelle Irish Bouebe or a Castagnari Dinn II, or a well set-up Hohner Double-Ray (preferably an older model overhauled and tuned by a skilled technician). But there are lots of other good makes around. Just keep it light and simple for your first instrument (two voices, 8 basses). If you want something at a budget price, the Button Box in MA have the Linnet model. You can see their current stock here (and don't be shy to contact them and talk to Doug, the owner, a very reasonable man!): www.buttonbox.com/button-accordions-in-stock.html#irish

Hi Stiamh, I hope all is well with you? Really enjoying the videos! They are a great help and you make it so easy to pick up tunes! I was wondering if you could do a video on the tune ‘The Mill House’ Reel?

Hello Noel! Doing OK, thanks, and hope the same goes for you. Glad you find the clips helpful. I don't play the Mill House, and I don't have any recordings of it either. So I'd have to the learn the tune - and then add it to the list of clips that I am not making these days 🙂 Can you point me to a recording that you like? It seems to be played in G or A and I think it would be more fun on the C#/D box in A.

@@Stiamh that’s great to hear! All is well here too, ahhh yess I see, sure there is no harm I said I would ask and see, personally I think Paddy Callaghan plays a great version of the tune, he begins with Be thou my vision and then goes into the mill house followed by another two reels I think? I personally think it’s a lovely version.

Maith thú, agus GRMA, Stiamh. Brilliant tutorial, which i'll be referencing often as i work out chords for Jackie Daly's hornpipe interpretation of the air An Páistín Fionn: th-cam.com/video/8Jyk40jWLfc/w-d-xo.html

Good man! On that tune you might find an opportunity to play every chord you have. 🙂
