I have the XL sled from Woodpeckers. I use the Festool 2200 with it. My cutting boards are much bigger and I need that XL to accommodate the larger pieces. I use a Whiteside 1 1/4 inch spoil board cutter. I really love this setup because i can flatten boards of such size. Right now the cutting board im doing now is bigger than my 20 inch planer, so this setup makes quick work for the next cuts and glueup.
Good evening guys. I’m new to woodworking and really just getting into it. I love my Festool tools. Tracksaw/MFT combo, sanders, drills. Next on the Festool list, router, miter-saw and router.
But I just wanted to send a shout out to you and Big-D with a great big “THANK YOU! I really enjoy watching your videos, I have learned a lot from them and I appreciate all the time and work put into them. Thank you! Cheers, Brad …………and Stay Sharp…….Whicked Sharp!
Thank you so much Brad !!!!
Reasonable for woodpecker product
I agree
This was an unexpected treat this morning. For the cost, this is a great solution for flattening all types of pieces.
For sure !!
Left this on the WP channel, too, but worth saying here - thanks for this video. You called out several assembly and use points that weren’t covered in the WP instructions!
Thanks
I think the last application you showed is the most useful. Not many people have a wide jointer. Or some people make a sled for the thickness planer. This does that and more
Now your talkin....... you get it...Thanks Matt !!!
@@sedgetool for me a TS saw and this would completely replace a jointer
Good video @sedgetool. Mine is still in the box on the garage shelf along with the 1 1/2 bit (OF1400). Can't wait to use it, but other projects are in the queue ahead of it. Hope all of you have a great holiday season and a fabulous 2024.
Thanks Peter ....Happy Holidays to you as well !!!!!!
just ordered mine a few minutes ago. This would be a lot cheaper that buying a 15" planer, a bit more tedious for sure, but a few extra minutes isn't going to matter.
Big D, best straight man in the business, nyuck, nyuck, nyuck! woob woob woob!!! Pretty good jig, USD 169.00 for the jig, the Ultrashear router bit is USD 59.61, (full retail prices) a bit steep as usual for Woodpeckers.
nyuk nyuk....Do the math at $59.61 for the Ultrashear bit with the 4 rotations of the insert carbide it is 4 bits in one.... sooo it is actually $14.90
But I can’t get a large jointer for that cost. A Chinesium 6 inch jointer is $250. I don’t want to know how much a 15” jointer costs lol
Waiting on mine. It’s back ordered.
definitely worth the wait
still using my scrub plane, once I get one side flat I feed it to the thickness planer on both sides, comes out perfect every time.
That is how I use to do it
Yes complete waste of money we need real woodworkers
Just ordered a router planer from festool. They are on back order but that isn’t a dealbreaker. I’ve got plenty to do between June and July when it will be shipped. Love my Festool and my Woodpecker tools.
cool
Great item. I thought for sure… this isn’t for me. I’m sure it’s too expensive. But after watching… and then seeing the price… I think this is a great option to help with surfacing some boards. Thanks for sharing this.
I like that the bit is 8mm shank. Fits my OF 1400. It is now my go to router! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
I also did notice that the dust collection was so bad. SORTA. But I just used my OF 1400 this past week. I took the dust collection off to see where I was at. And I had WAY more dust than you were getting. Imagine what it would have been without it!
It is a GREAT jig to have in the shop....
Great timing! I was just given a bunch of old lumber that is rough and twisted. This will easily take care of all that... I need to order this.
Glad to help
Thanks for showing expanded uses for this product. Their advertisement shows limited uses and I wasn’t considering purchasing. However I have some bed posts to flatten and your video inspired me to consider this product for accomplishing what I will need to do rather than use hand planes.😊
Glad it was helpful!
Nice job buddy
Thanks 👍
Dammit Sedge! You just cost me another $200 at Woodpeckers! 😁
well worth it !!!
If it had a layer of black bristle brushes either side of the entrance and down the sides of the jig that would stop the majority of dust flying out if you was that bothered by it. Just have to make sure that youbrelease plunge before lifting the router at end of cut as bristles would possibly get ripped out
cool tip
Oh look, it’s a router sled. Just the kind of innovation we expect from a top tier tool maker….
I know right !!
D’oh! Trees, forest. Forest, trees. Love the enthusiasm though.
Hi Sedge, thanks for the great video! Would I be able to use this as a replacement for a thickness planer? I know it would be much slower, but it would be nice to have something while I save for a planer. Happy Holidays!
It would be a lot slower
Where can one buy that clamp your using to secure the work piece?
Festool
amzn.to/4gTbG2y
6:35 One thing I've never liked about the clamping elements is how they lift the workpiece off the surface by a sixteenth or so. If you're trying to flatten something that sixteenth is going to affect the thickness of the piece by the same amount. Bessey has a new set of MFT clamps they call Horizontal Pull-Down clamps because the clamping action pulls the piece down towards the table in addition to applying clamping force. They're also half the price of the Festools. I love my Festool gear, but there are a few things that just aren't up to their usual standard.
OK
I agree. Even in the video you can see the slight lift. Thanks for the Bessey call-out. I didn't know they solved this problem!
@sedge Nice demonstration. while watching this video I am thinking about router carriage accessory for Festool’s MFS. is this any different than that one?
it depends on what router carriage accessory yo u are asking about......
Thanks, Sedge and Big D for a great demo. I wasn’t aware that Woodpeckers had introduced this new tool and it looks like it would be very useful. I appreciate the time and effort you and the “camera man” all put into making these videos. When are you going to follow-up with more videos on the Shaper Origin?
I will be working with the Shaper Origin over Xmas break..stay tuned..
Thanks Sedge for the video. Do you think this jig could be used to cut dados? Is the router path at a right angle to the fence? Thanks again.
I was thinking yes to the dado ..but I have not tied it yet...
Hello. Thank you for the video. Which version have you used ? (Large ?). Best regards
The smaller one..the first one that came out
Thank you very much, I have just ordered one. Another question please : for centering the router, the tool coming with the set needs a 6.35mm hole or 8mm can fit ? Sorry for my english, I’m French. BR.
Pretty easy to make a similar jig with Baltic birch plywood.
ok
Baltic birch is $150/sheet where Im at. Purchase a sheet and you pretty much bought this anyway. I have enough going on building my workbench without having to build another jig.
Sedge! You think the 1400 will handle the 1-1/2” bit?
For sure !!!
I watched the video again and realized you actually mention that. Lol. 🤦♂️
Free bee ?
Not at retailers ?
ok to order it from wood peckers on the line
A thicknesser planer by Festool would be nice wouldn’t it?
It would ....
That was video magic how all that dust just vanished...lol.
Just giving you a hard time as i enjoy your videos
Thanks 👍 brotha !!!
Yep, I WANT one😳 is it available in Europe?
I do not know .....I hope so
very nice tl but I don't own a brinks truck!
Me neither ....??????
Sedge, I noticed the router is in inches, but the micro adjust is in metric. Does it adjust in millimeters or fractions of an inch?
each click on the micro adjust is.1mm or 1/128"
Reminds me of the Festool MFS system with the "router slide"? Only a LOT better priced! :-) (Disclaimer: I got the ENTIRE MFS system, both sizes, for just $110 on clearance when our local distributor closed). But if this is woodpeckers, why isn't it RED??????
I was thinking the same thing...
It almost seems like it's not worth whatever they are charging, because it seems very limited in the width of a board you could do. It doesn't do wide boards for say a river table. This would not be very conducive to river tables, because a lot of times, they are wider than that. 🤔
Woodpeckers makes a larger board mill for river tables
You can purchase an attachment (the XL) that goes up to 24" thick, I think.
