Lol this an the quoting form makes me think that Koreans repeat things alot lol So the quoting form is when you're asking for a clarification from someone else while this form can be used to repeat what you said

I've recently been trying to understand the sentences in a historical drama, but am struggling because so many sentences end in 말이다 and/or 말입니다 😅 even when it doesn't feel like a reiteration

A good example would be from SKY Castle when that one mom always goes, "내 말이!!!!" to be like "exactly"/"that whats im saying!!!!!" LOL

Remember it's used with the quoting form, and the sentence will still be grammatically correct even if you remove 말이다.

Since you used 있었다면 in the past tense, you'll also want to say 풀었을 거란 말 at the end. "Would have...."
