Well.. that's an LC... we used 'em few; only for do door guards and naval exercises, vessel boarding and that kind of stuff, the three that i'd held felt heavyer than my CETME L, i also felt better with the cheek againist the bakelite stock of the L than againist the LC wires stock, i didn't liked it. Also, that flash hider was the standard on the 98% of the CETME Ls of the Tercio Norte of the Royal Spanish Marine Infantry only the 1st serie CETMEs had that three lugs flash hider that you've in your L, the normal thing on my Tercio was the one on your LC, i think it was the 3rd serie/batch; the sights are the same one than on the L, but on the shooting range we only did 50m 100m and 200m with 'em, while with the L we did from 50m to 400m. The LCs that we had were much more realiable than the Ls, using the same mags and ammo, when we had an stopage with the LCs it used to be the mag; they were less used and less beaten, they still in few number on the inventory of the Armada, the CNP (Cuerpo Nacional de Policía = the cops) and the Guardia Civíl, and thankfully they'd gave few use to 'em too.

I didn't mention the Ameli, but to my knowledge taken from people of my environment that had the chance to use it... Was the worst expression of the CETME system.

@@davidv776 We had some Amelies, was so bad that we only get to see it on the 'Teóricas de armamento', to tell us that it exists, how it was and how to feed it, disassembly and assemble it; we only used the MG3, we had 3 LVs on my company, one was used by my 1st corporal but without the SUSAT, just the weights, i'd seen a couple of jams on it too, but was a mags thing in his opinion; i don't have a personal experience with the LV, only with the L & LC.

Did you think the reason the LCs were more reliable than the Ls was due to less wear and tear? Or was the design just more reliable? I'd think the same action with the original barrel and stock should be workable for standardization if so.
@@CtrlAltRetreat Imo (i'm not a weapons expert in any way [i'm a fuckin' punk]) it was because the guns (the springs and all that) was less used/abused than the Ls, the failures that i'd seen on the LCs was mainly because of the magazine condition or leak of cleaning, but mainly because the magazine spring or walls condition.

Hello Ian! Spanish guy here, my old man did mandatory military service with the CETME L. Back then, guys said CETME stands for 'Cada Esquina Tiene Mierda Escondida', meaning 'Every corner has hidden shit' , because apparently they hated cleaning the thing lol.
Sir, your father may have very well inspired my new motto because here in Merica, every corner does indeed have hidden shit.
I was just thinking that a 12.5” barrel, 5.56 chambered CETME or HK roller-delay carbine would be my dream gun, lo and behold, here it is!

I have had a AK4 in the military. that cured me of any need to have one. the AK4 is more or less a licensbuild H&K G3
@@SonsOfLorgar Ok then we have experience of the same carbines. I have a maybe a half a inch to short arms for the lenght of pull on it, the point of balance is to far away for me to reach. with the aimpoint sight it was a bit better. then it was kind of posible to aim in low light conditions. I don´t remember how many times the rolers got stuck. Give me a AK5(a) and I think I still would be able to take it a part. and put it together. with a ok time. with a ak4 I am happy if i only have to have one try. to put it together.
Now, that brings back unplesant memories of cleaning an AG3 (HK G3) year after year.

@@lanehamilton5228 Wear latex gloves or your hands will be completely covered in soot. Lots of towels and don't touch anything that you don't want filthy.
I was thinking of just spraying it down with simple green and hosing it off out in the back yard next time I feel like cleaning the thing.
Some used hot water to clean it. Then drying before applying oil. Others immersed it in oil.
4:23 The full version has a dual stage spring, while the carbine has not. Please take a note if it makes a difference while shooting.
@@zaitcev0 I was wondering about that. I saw they also used a soft (rubber?) material on the back inside the cap, so I thought they used that for end of the travel of the bolt carrier.
Dual stage spring?
Earlier flash hiders were all the open, three-proged type. Since it gave trouble moving in brush areas, the closed one was adopted.
You can find all CETME versions with both types. Open ones early on, and closed "bird-cage" after being introduced (no exact dates, probably, since exhausting older flash hiders in stock). You can also find later flash hiders in earlier rifles refitted or repaired.

Can't begin to say how well timed this was, I was just about to go watch all your llama/cetme videos again so I can look at these beautiful guns I'll never own.
I have both the MCM L and LC and love them...excellent guns. MCM fixed the short coming of the originals. Mine both shoot flawlessly. I'm pondering on applying for an SBR stamp for my LC, that shorter barrel looks awesome.

I had a chance to talk to a Spanish veteran who served with CETME L.
Ian talked in another video about reliability and other issues, Spanish knew about those, he told me army mechanics worked wonders tuning them to be reliable rifles.
So at least some units could to have properly prepared guns ready for action.
Ian with the changes to the recoil spring, is the felt/perceived recoil different between the two rifles?

Having carried a full size M16A1 through the jungle I can tell you that having a shortened version of a standard rifle would have been greatly appreciated. The M4 was not in general use at the time but I wish it had been.

Jen farmer that’s stupid. The m16a1s are 20 inch barrels with rifle length recoil spring. You get reliability issues when shortening it
@jeffie8696 army should have done what the Canadians did and put a collapsible stock on a full length m16. I’d pay for the longer 20 inch barrel when it comes to accuracy

Oktay Yildirim Try to explain that to our politics. We have been fighting for years to change our legislation, mostly about semi automatic .308 rifles for hunting. Meanwhile, we can own .300blk, 6.8spc, 6.5 grendel... Ah, 7.62x39 is legal, they consider it a “hunting” caliber.

Yeah, but it's kind of in a hard spot. It's not Modern enough to be in games set in modern day, and not old enough to be set in historical ones. And only used by Spain.

Love love love the CETME. It was my first battle rifle( first rifle period). This is the perfect budget battle rifle ( not modern retools from century or pmc ) for entry lvl shooter. The parts kit availability is staggering, the caliber is legendary, the action is ROCK solid, the reliability is beyond serviceable, the manual of arms is short and simple. The new shooter can get the rifle,parts kit and first 1000 rounds, even mount a red dot ( mounts or lack there of is the single greatest drawback to purchasing an older/ cheaper milplus.) and still only spend around $3000 . Considering the enrty lvl cost on any other 7.62 nato platform where the rifle can cost $3000 ez. Here in Colorado they are asking about 1500 for a pmc paratrooper tooled on old milplus. That is still $1500 less than its name brand contemporary and that leaves you with $1500 to bolt on or send. The Cetme in my opinion is one of the if not the best budget battle rifle you could find that has compatibility with many variants across the European theater and in North America. The ar10s dont have the parts compatibility for bcgs. The m1a will bite the shit out of you for getting fatigued, the m1 is antiquated and -06 may be in short supply on a modern battlefield, HKs are overpriced and based on the same action with very little records indicating G3 is far superior to the Cetme that it evolved from. ❤ this rifle

The telescoping bolt carrier and spring is a neat solution for shortening rifles that otherwise need an extension tube.
Would this configuration have "tilt" issues as the recoil spring is not in line with the cartridge?
Works fine with H&K guns.
@@civicsr2cool True. I used a 7.62 G3 in the army, a thoroughly unpleasant gun to shoot (and clean). The HK21, on the other hand, was great fun.

Pedro, I have an HK 91 with an SG1 stock /dual buffer. It’s comfortable to shoot now, but it sure does get dirty lol
It is usually said that the LCs are built to a higher standard than the regulars, so that would make them even more desirable.
The ET marking on that one refers to "Army" (Ejército de Tierra). There are others that were assigned to the Guardia Civil units.

Actually, although it's a slightly smaller diameter, the recoil spring is just as long as it ever was. What they did was remove the buffer spring from the recoil spring guide rod and relocate it into the receiver endcap.

That LC is awesome. Definitely something that I need in my life.
I definitely do like the looks of this gun and I would choose it as a secondary backup. I think the reason for it being shrunken down so much and have a collapsing stock it's definitely make tighter corners and little more maneuverable. that's my best guess anyway even though you don't really lose much weight, still seems like it's better for tight spaces.
the roller delayed guns never cease to amaze me... so simple yet effective... and this one is extremely sexy on top of that :)

I know there was the LV & LV/S rifles (i.e. a scoped variant of the standard CETME L), was there a scoped variant of the CETME LC rifle?
I love my cetme G3, one of my sweetest rifles and can shoot 308 out of it all day long without shoulder fatigue. It is the 60 year old conversion with original wood grips and stock but has very little wear considering it's age and the amount of ammo I have put through it.

This looks like a G3 Grease Gun and a Daewoo made very vicious love and this is what came out. I love it in all its weird cheapness, and there's something amusing about using Roller Delayed in of all things, a stamped shell.
The "move the spring up and forward" was likely taken from the AK. That's been a space saving feature since it's inception.

IMHO They're not particularly incoherent or, even badly laid out. Since Congress isn't a panel of firearms experts nor such expertise a part of it's primary function, they've assigned the task of classifying and categorizing various firearms to the ATF while setting various levels of regulation to different types of weapons and suppressors. Now, the way they do this gives large amounts of bureaucratic power and lee-way to interpret the various legal definitions of weapons to ATF bureaucrats. And since this kind of cushy sinecure deskjob is exactly what gets staffed through nepotism not competence, it will invariably lead to a internally conflicting clusterfuck full of special exceptions made based on the current political atmosphere instead of facts and the intended purpose of the weapon.

Ian, is the locking wedge inside the bolt a different angle? that's the other thing that is usually changed on a roller delayed blowback when you change the barrel length.

I would be interested in you taking both rifles and doing some test firing. Let's see low-light and night firing. Then swap the flash suppressors and repeat. If that weapon turns out anything like an M16 series weapon, the prong flash suppressor will have a lot less flash!

The fore-end looks similar to Magpul fore-ends, especially on the shotguns.
I love the way the weapon sits on the magazine. I doubt it is intended as a display feature but I appreciate the happy accident.

Is a closed flash hider better at hiding flash? I'd imagine the LC had a closed flash hider to keep it from snagging to your gear when jumping out of an airplane or whatever you need a collapsible stock for.
I've been wanting to get a cetme L parts kit but all the kits that I see are almost the full thing without the barrel and receiver so wouldnt that not be allowed even If I got an American made barrel and receiver? (this 922(r) is stupid)

Makes sense to delete the bayonet long when you consider who they're building the gun for.
PVT Snuffiego *absolutely* is going to snap a bayonet on there if the lug is present and at all accessible. At which point, he's going to swing it around, and everyone will laugh until the bayonet comes flying off (because, without the forward attachment of the muzzle ring, it isn't actually fixed) and someone loses an eye.
Always remwbered the instructor telling me about the AG3, always keep the gun on Safe at all times.

4:23 I'm sure you know the specifics of the relation between the dimensions of springs, and their rates already, but for those of you who don't, here's a few rules of thumb:
Increase in spring OD= Lower spring rate
Increase in wire diameter = Higher spring rate
Increase in number of coils = Lower spring rate
Also if you use more than one spring in a row(serially) you decrease the rate. if one of the springs bottoms out the rate increases after that point.
If the spring is longer, but used in the same space as a shorter spring, your rate isn't affected, but you have a higher preload.
The relation between spring OD and number of coils, and multiple springs are a bit counter intuitive. However if you think about how the spring actually works, it make sense.
There is an equation that I use sometimes, I actually have a parametric model I made, so I can just plug in the numbers in fusion 360, and it scales my model to whatever dimensions you input and also gives you the rate. The most interesting thing I found after making the model is that coil springs twist as they compress, which decreases the number of coils, but increases the diameter, which allows the rate of the spring to remain constant. I believe torsion springs have a similar effect.

In my experience, a heavier weapon helps mitigate recoil, whether it is a rifle or pistol. So maybe the slightly denser feel to it will mean more pleasant shooting?
I wonder why they didn't just standardize on that bolt carrier, charging handle and spring assembly if you can fit it into the standard L? (Unless the spring doesn't bump up against the normal stock?)

Hey... I didn't know that... Always though the recoil spring was located within the receiver in the basic fixed stock version as well.
You can see the design heritage that lead (via a twisted path) to the MP5.
Mp5 actually was a 9mm Cetme prototype... First HK G3's were actually made on Cetme factories like the 7,62x39 versión that Cetme made for HK trials.
I understand about the FAL having a different spring system,because of the Rat tail they have. I have several FAL,s in all configuration. But I also have several roller locks G3 and Cetmes. C,s And L,s I have G3,s with a similar collapsing stock and since the recoil spring doesn't actually go into the buttstock, but terminates there. There isn't any need to change any of the parts like they did in the LC.. still scratching my head why...
