+Cailyn Rossiter Yes the strumming pattern changes once you get to the A7 chord. At that point you begin with DDUUDU strumming which will lead you into the chorus which uses the same strumming. Hope this helps.

For me it sounds closer if you add an A after each chord in the second part of the later choruses even after the main chords, so it would still be G-A-Bm-A-D-A. When I was playing with the song it sounded a bit odd and lacking because the song seemed to have a chord change at every "Than I've ever been" so I tried using A and seemed to be it. Nevertheless, great tutorial.
RB Lii i noticed that it sounded weird and I've thought some choruses sounded nicer with G - A - Bm - A - G - A -D
The transitioning in the chorus has been a bit difficult to understand for me. I understand the first chords: G, Bm, and D, though taking into account the strumming pattern, that's what puts me off along with the time it takes. Basically what has been getting me is that okay I start the chorus on heart, and by the time I'm singing the part,"I'm alive," I'm still on the strumming pattern for the G chord, where in the video you transition to A at a certain point in the strumming pattern, and I don't know at what point is the whole dealio.

Nice tutorial. Just wondering, how many times do you play D in the bridge?
Cindel Guerrero I play the D for the entire bridge. So if I was to say how many times I play it, I guess I would say just once, but I play it for ~16 measures in a row. If you are trying to sing with it, just play the D for the entire bridge part and it will sound fine. If you aren't singing with it, then I would say just play the D chord for a short while until you get tired of it and move on to the next verse. Hope this helps.

i dont know if it's just me but i like playing G - A -Bm -A - G - A - D for the chorus, depending on the lyrics because i know each chorus i different

For the beginners out there, the whole "a bar chords" and "g bar chords" are just a harder and more complex version of the simple a chord and g chord.

+Jared Lappin Glad to hear you are picking up the guitar! My advice (in case you want it) is to play the guitar every day whether it's for 15 min or and hour or more. Get a guitar stand and put your guitar on display in a room you spend a lot of time in. This makes it super easy to pick up your guitar and play for a few minutes here and there. You will be amazed at how your hands will pick up the movements! Good Luck!

In the first verse what is the rhythm for a7? It sounds like it changes between the rest of the verse and the chorus.
By rhythm I meant strumming pattern.

Emily Hawley Hi Emily, to get the F# you will need to bar the second fret with your index finger. Put your second finger on the 3rd string 3rd fret and your last 2 fingers on the 5th and 4th strings of the 4th fret. It's the same as an F bar chord, except move the shape up the guitar neck 1 fret. Hope this helps

Can you do one without bar chords?
+Christina Marino Hi Christina, the version I posted here is in my opinion the easiest way to play it. If you want to play more open chords, you can substitute an open G and an open A at the point in the video where I play a bar chord G and a bar chord A. Unfortunately, the Bm bar chord and the F# bar chord cannot be substituted for open chords. That is why I think in this case it is actually harder to switch back and forth between bar chords and open chords than it is to play all bar chords. For example, when you make a bar chord F# shape I think it is easier to simply slide that same shape up and down the guitar neck to make a G bar chord and an A bar chord, etc. But, if it is easier for you, substitute the open chords where you see fit. Hope this helps.

If you listen with headphones the sound is only in one ear. I mistakenly recorded it in mono instead of stereo. The audio shouldn't be completely gone though - that's weird.
