That pedal is definitely on my shortlist. Can you confirm that this is basically a boutiqy version of the Keeley modded Boss bluesdriver? Looking for a "full range" overdrive that does not add too much compression and cleans up nicely with the volume pot. Oh, btw - nice playing, as always!
Hi Bjorn, I was wondering about this OD : is it gonna fit with an Hiwatt amp ? (Custom Little D 20wt). Are Hiwatt Amps right with kind of Blues Driver like this one? Thanks for everything !
Hi Bjorn, love the channel and your website. I have an EVH 5150iii 6l6 50w head into a 2x12 v30 cab. I know, not the best choice for gilmour tones but I'm also a Metal guy too. However, I find the clean channel pretty good. I'm on the hunt for good clean boost/overdrive pedal to run into my clean channel. I have a maxon od808 but I just find it to be super thin sounding with my classic vibe 50s strat and even my les paul. Been looking at a lot of options and at the top are this super phat mod, tumnus (original), fulltone ocd, fulltone plimsoul. What pedal do you think would do the best colorsound power boost imitation in the used $200 or less category? Doesn't have to be from the ones I mentioned(I also run a green russian reissue and highly considering the triangle reissue to replace it)
Thanks for the kind words! I'm not that familiar with the 5150 but the clean channel is more Fenderish right? Again, I don't know. The Tube Screamer is design to be used with overdriven amps so it will sound thin on clean channels. Between the ones you've listed you'll probably get closest to the CPB with a BD2 or Keeley.
Was in the market for a BD-2 Keeley Mod and stumbled across this pedal. In your honest opinion, BD-2 or Super Phat Mod? There’s a whole lotta love out there for the Keeley modded BD-2. Is this just his branded version or is it a different beast all together?
It's not a different beast but Keeley, as many has done and offer, has tweaked the stock circuit slightly. Keeley's is very similar to the stock Boss but it has a slightly warmer character, more low end and an overall smoother tone.
In front, it would basically just push the gain but after, which is what David Gilmour did with his Muff+overdrive setup, would be much like adding an EQ only much more subtle. The SPM goes very well with Muffs as a booster/tone enhancer.
I have just bought this pedal but quite frankly, I didn't know it's potential until I saw this amazing video. Thanks!!!
Cheers!
Sounds incredible on Young Lust! What a versatile drive!
That opening riff!!! Love that sound. cheers. Im sold. Killer Keeley!
your tone gets better and better man!
Great review, great playing!
Thanks!
Fantastic review Bjørn
Just ordered one off reverb, B stock for $110. I was between this or the analogman SD1 mod, that'll probably be my next one. Thanks!
nailed it ..... buying today

@@gilmourishofficial yes it's made by fender and does sound fenderish to my ears. Thanks for the recommendation!

How does it compare to the tdx/tube driver camp of pedals?
Very similar. Perhaps a tad brighter and a bit more compression but they're in the same family.
Is this a worthy upgrade if you already have a BD-2 Waza or with the Keeley mod?
Depends on how picky you are. I would probably spend that money on something else if I already had those two.
what effect do you use on the last part of the video? Cheers
Mooer ElecLady and a bit of delay.
Hi Bjorn! How does it compare to the Vick Audio Tree Of Life?
The ToL has much more compression and mid range.
well done! How does it blend in front of a muff?
In front, it would basically just push the gain but after, which is what David Gilmour did with his Muff+overdrive setup, would be much like adding an EQ only much more subtle. The SPM goes very well with Muffs as a booster/tone enhancer.
gilmourish riis yess. Sorry. I thought "in front" meant "after". Thank you so much. Cheers from Italy!!
