Thought I’d add: I grew up in Florida making family trips to Daytona and New Smyrna Beaches for the day all through the summers. Never got to spend a whole week at a beach until I started meeting up with my husband’s family at Emerald Isle, NC a few times and we went to Hilton Head once. A whole week is definitely a different experience. The MVP awards made me smile. Very creative family in many ways.

Mark's Mom!!! How fun. Shes lovely! Our family went to Myrtle Beach every summer and camped in my parent's Midas motorhome directly on the beach. It was a wonderful time in the 70s of freedom and carefree fun. I used to ride my unicycle up and down the beach. It was great exercise!! I will always have fond memories of those times.
My mom passed away in 2013, and she was my ultimate craft guide. She could embroider like none other. She quilted - mostly pillows - and I'm so blessed to have some of her work.
I always had something I was stitching, latch hooking, and creating. As an adult, I taught myself to crochet and knit. My mom was so proud of me for being able to do both. She tried when I was little and just couldn't do it. I am so much like her, which I used to hate. I've grown to truly embrace those best qualities of my mom. You've definitely embraced your mom's soothing demeanor in your videos. You both did a wonderful job in this one. Thank you for sharing a bit about your lives together. ❤

Your mom’s school sounds awesome: having so few children in each class allows for more individual attention.
I knitted myself a top last summer (my own pattern), a cotton blend I think, but even though the upper part is a lace stitch I don’t like to wear it when it gets hot . If I ever make another one I will choose pure cotton, a thinner yarn, and a sleeveless design. Or maybe knitting a light cardigan to carry around for shopping trips in ice-cold stores would be a better option.

I have two days off every week, Sunday and Monday. I begin my Sundays catching up with my crafting TH-cam friends (you're one of them, by the way), and you generally give me something to think about, if nothing else. This video is no exception. You are indeed blessed to have such a supportive and loving family, and I can't possibly begin to relate to that. I'll put it this way, and I know this is a public forum: if I were invited to attend any family get-together, be it a wedding, a graduation, or a reunion, or something I'm required to attend, such as a funeral, I would let them know that I would rather contract cholera than attend. Hold on to what you have, because not everyone has it.
What a great video!! Made me remember some family vacations. They are the best. We are in Wisconsin and as kids our family trip would be staying at a cottage up north. Fishing, swimming, games, Grandparents. Such fun. As our family grew up, us kids would get together and one of the most memorable trips was renting a houseboat on Dale Hollow Lake. Absolutely gorgeous among the hills. We were in the water all day, drinking, eating, dancing, singing. So much fun!! We once took an adults only trip to the Bahamas and my husband got a little tipsy with the group of about 16 we were with and fell off the edge of the sidewalk into the bushes. If the bushes hadn’t been there he would have landed right in the water where the yachts parked. My sister and I almost peed our pants laughing. Another evening a very large bug ran up her pants leg as she was walking down the stairs. Never saw someone scream and start stripping their pants off so fast in the middle of a walkway in a shopping area. Oh, man, MVP for sure! Thanks for stirring up those memories Mark! Enjoy your time. And Hi Mark! How nice to meet your mom and hear you share family stories, I have 2 siblings, a sister and a brother. In our family all the women except me have Margareta as second name. When my brother Karl was a toddler he used to call himself Karl Margareta as this earned him an ice cream when the local grocery shop owner asked him about his name 😁 I still congratulate him on the namesday for Margareta which pisses him off.
Hey Jude, you have a wonderful name. Mark, I live in Las Cruces and summertime knit tops out of linen/cotton are a priority for me because I wear my knitted garments everyday. Even when it's 105°.

We had long car trips for vacation but only 5 hours, with a very short single rest stop each trip. We played the number plate game on its own (name the town that has been abbreviated on the numberplate), or the sneaky ones would use the plate on the vehicle in front as part of the eye-spy-with-my-little-eye game which usually ran for a couple of hours after dawn, as Dad would pack the station wagon the night before, and would carry the sleepiest kids to the car at 3 am in their pjs, as I was the eldest and a light sleeper (I would blearily walk myself to the car), and I got bonus points for earliest participation in eye-spy, catching the glint of animal eyes in the bush in the pre-dawn light - but you had to be correct in identifying the animal to be awarded points (usually cows or sheep in the farming areas, or kangaroos in the scrubby bushland). After dawn I was usually reading a book, or sometimes knitting or crocheting. We would arrive at our destination around 8 am, as Mum said it was rude to turn up at a relatives house at 7 or earlier.

My father's mom, my Granny, was born in Lawrenceburg TN. I never noticed an accent of any kind. However, while out at a bar with a friend, - we were trying to find a drink that she would like well enough to drink (she was a very picky tea toddler). And, to not be wasteful, I was drinking the ones she didn't care for - I found a bunch of new drinks to like but, she didn't. Needless to say, she drove us home that night. I was playing pool with one of the guys we met there and he asked me what part of Tennessee I was from. I said, " I'm not from Tennessee, but my granny is." Sooo, apparently, I take on a Tennesseean accent when I've had a few drinks. Who knew that was even a thing? Lol!
How was that for a little life story! Lol!

So nice to meet your Mom! My summer knitting usually involves making at least two summer tops. I save summer (short sleeve) knitting patterns as I find them and then choose 1 or 2 to make in the early part of the summer. I try to get some Christmas gifts made (socks, hats, shawls, mittens or cowls). I also think summer is the perfect time to start some of my winter sweaters and/or shawls. Love spending time with you! Your family seems marvelous and your mother is a lovely human. That's great. We live near Joshua Tree National Park - 2 hours at best from the grandkids & their staff (my daughter and her husband). Yesterday we drove down to Pasadena to meet them for a Father's Day lunch and a trip to beautiful nearby public gardens. Descanso is HUGE and old and gorgeous. My hubby has recently graduated to a can from his walker but couldn't have done nearly that much yesterday, so we bought a wheelchair at a thrift store, not realizing that there was a lot of uphill. He's 6' tall and 200 pounds so I got a huge workout. My wonderful son in law took turns with me and because of that, we got to see a lot more than we would have otherwise. His mom even took a turn! It was marvelous and our newly minted high school granddaughter was so delightful, as was my daughter. It was a great day.
Really generous of you to share your Mom. It is obvious you have a great relationship. Love the vacation stories. Car trips were always interesting for our family of 10. Our memories often include repetitive singing! My poor parents. 77 Sunset Strip sung over and over from PA to Ohio!

The one that comes to mind first was a camping trip where our site was by a stream that had rocks in it to cross to the other side. My Mother promptly told us to be careful not to get wet and immediately there after slipped into the water. Or the time we sat around the fire on a slight hill and Mom fell backward while sitting into the lawn chair, she was still in a sitting position just on her back with her skinny little legs flailing in the air trying to get up. Our family was often the 'free' entertainment for friends that camped with us 😊

I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was 105 degrees the other day. I'm knitting the Anker Tee by Petite Knits in Rowan Summerlite 4ply fingering weight 100% cotton. Almost finished. I hope it's not too hot to wear it now!

Hello folks! I decided last winter that I really wanted to be able wear something I’ve made every day, so I’ve been knitting a lot of summer garments. I’ve used cotton, cotton/linen blends, and merino fingering. My favorites have been the Rock It Tee (I made 2!) the Ranunculus in cotton/linen, and now I’m making the Alpine Bloom. I like things that have a bit of a sleeve and cover my upper arms. I really enjoyed seeing your mom on camera. What a sweetheart. I am very close to my son as well, and it’s nice to see your relationship!

It was lovely to video-meet your charming and elegant mum. I could never be a preschool teacher. When I would volunteer at my boys' school, I thought that the children were like mini- zombies, calling out "miss! miss!" at me, trailing around after me, grabbing me and eating my brains (metaphorically speaking!) Go on Mark, knit your wonderful mum a cardigan or something! (Only after you've finished your husband's Weekender of course). I just returned from the John Arbon Textiles Mill Open Weekend in sunny Devon. It was great and I bought 2 sweater quantities of yarn, along with sock yarn. My husband is one of those guys who doesn't feel the cold enough to wear sweaters, but he loves the wool socks that I knit for him. I have now started the Victory Cardigan by Corrine from the Woolly Thistle - my 1st steek! Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Beautiful background! Reminds me of the beach when we get to go to the ocean on vacation in Washington or Oregon. The world is so diverse and we all like different things. It’s one reason I get so frustrated with the TH-cam algorithm gawd, it punishes you for everyone not enjoying the same things. I find your voice very calming so I usually watch when need to distress and calm down. ❤️

Thank you so much for this video, Mark! I loved listening to your Mom's voice and your stories about your family vacations. Whenever I get together with my family and our cousins on holidays, we all start telling stories of when we were kids. We have to be careful because the spouses start to loose interest after a while and start to drift to other rooms. I found it interesting when you mentioned that you used to fight with your brother a lot. My brother, Jerry, and I were the closest in age and we would always fight, mainly because I annoyed him to the point that he couldn't take me anymore. Anyway, we are extremely close now and we always tell each other "I love you" when we end our conversations on the phone or when we get together. I loved the photos that you showed of your family members and your nephews are probably so proud that they were mentioned in this video. To that I shout out to Jude - "Hey Jude!" Thanks again Mark.

Hi Jude! What a cool uncle you have and a lovely family. I like to knit socks year round, I am currently knitting an Anker Tee by Petite Knits. I’m using a light blend of cotton,acrylic, and nylon by Berroco. It is taking a while to knit, more experienced knitters finish quicker😊. It sure is a lot more knitting than socks, but it is enjoyable. I think your mom would like one. Thank you for filming with your mom at such a beautiful place. I enjoy all your videos.
Hello to Jude and to Both of you what a fun episode I always love your stories they are so much fun, we just tell very old stories about each other (Funny strange things someone has done) to friends and other family members there are several out there - we really should have thought of doing the awards thing for that hahaha, I had a terrible moment of going back to a bad habit with my project and a wonderful friend helped me though relearning again the correct way to do the stitch Purl I always twist my stitches but now am not... so now to actually get my project started!
