I don't think that was an issue at all. Teen Titans was canceled for YEARS before Teen Titans Go came out. The release of Go had absolutely no effect on whether Teen Titans was going to be renewed, if anything it helped people remember it and petition to get more of it, and the people behind Go were trying to make it happen as well. Teen Titans ended in 2006, and Teen Titans Go came out in 2013. Several shows had come and gone within that time frame, so to say that Go stopped the original from continuing, it's just factually inaccurate.

I have a friend, H, who was an animator on TTG. One Thanksgiving probably 8-9 years ago, I learned that it was my then 8-year-old niece's favorite show. I told H about it, and let my niece use my Discord account to chat. The same day the staff took a group pic to send to her, as well as sending lineart of her favorite character (Raven) making reference to what she had talked about in the Discord chat.
I was surprised at the whole office sending stuff in response to one fan chat, and told H so. She explained that given how much hate the show got, sometimes it was hard for them to remember that the target demographic really did love the show - they were just too young to be on social media yet. So hearing from even one fan brightened the mood of the whole studio.

On the original Teen Titans not having a "proper finale", I saw someone else's video about why "All Things Must Change" was the final episode, and it did a good job of defending it as an actual proper finale for the show. The message of that episode is that things change, new things will appear in your life, and questions about your life might go unanswered, but that's just part of growing up, and you have to learn to move on and go through your life without closure sometimes. It's a pretty powerful message, especially for a show like Teen Titans, and I think it was important for them to make that the final episode. If OG TT had gotten a proper final episode where everything wrapped up neatly, would it have actually been better off for it? Or is the way that it ended, an open book with a weird mystery introduced in its final episode with no resolution, just a metaphor for how in life, sometimes things just don't end in a satisfying way, but you have to keep moving on? I kind of really like the idea of that; I feel like, even if OG TT hadn't gotten its final season shaved in half and had gotten to tell the full story it wanted to tell with the villains and teen heroes all teaming up to fight each other, All Things Must Change would've still been the final episode of the season. Even with everything wrapping up "properly", we still would've gotten that weird final episode stinger that should've led into the next season, but ultimately wouldn't, because I'm pretty sure the crew knew that season was the last one they were going to get. It was planned to end that way, so I would say that it got a proper finale, even though that finale provided zero closure, because that was the point of it.

In my opinion the original Teen Titans had a pretty perfect finale. It wasn’t intended to be this grandiose end, as said we pretty much got that with the episode beforehand. So to wrap up the season and series as a whole, As Khary Payton puts it “What is the biggest lesson a teen takes?” It’s moving on. That we don’t always get the resolutions and answers we want, things change and live is always going forward so it is unproductive to stay in the past

    • @oakenshadow6763

The 0roblem is, we watch media for the resolutions we don't get on real life. It gives up hope to find them IRL. And in a showcase story driven as Teen Titans, it really was sad for us to not get any sort of proper conclusion, yet enough of one to not be able to make our own. I just wish it hadn't been canceled.

I honestly think this show could actually be decently funny when its actually trying to be a show with its own identity instead of just constantly reminding the audience "WE ARENT THE OG TT FROM THE 2000s AND PEOPLE DONT LIKE US". As a child who never went on the internet, I never saw the hate or even the original Teen Titans show, when GO came out. It allowed me to go in and just enjoy the fun. However, as the show went on I found that the show had slowly transformed into a show that consistently made fart jokes and bullied Robin for some reason. Back in the first season even if it wasn't gold it felt fun and felt like it had effort put into it. Once I got to season 6 and watched the camping summer special, back when it was airing for the first time I realized what I had loved about the show in the first place, was completely gone, besides the movie and the crossover movie. I never hated the show at any point, but I don't know it got to the point where I just couldn't keep up with the series anymore and I put it to rest. May my found memories of nostalgia never be disturbed and Teen Titans Go never touch me again.

  • @JadoDog
    @JadoDog 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +377

The main reason it was originally hated is going to be forgotten over time: The hype before Teen Titans Go really piggybacked off of the Teen Titans fanbase. They were constantly promoting how "Teen Titans is coming back!" And "The original voice actors are coming back!" All the other reasons it was hated really was partially reinforced because of the momentum from the disappointment after the hype they built (There wouldnt be nearly as much hate if, for example, the original Teen Titans never existed).
And when you add that to the fact that Teen Titans ended in the oddest way possible with a less-than-satisfying conclusion (before Trouble in Tokyo came along), people were hungry for it. Then when you get a goofy show with caricatures of the characters you grew up with? It made fans salty and in response to the backlash, the creators kept making episodes making fun of the fans.

And the answer is the creators were antagonizing Teen Titans fans every step of the way.

I will always cite the original teen titans as my first and major inspiration that made me get excited about sharing and telling stories in the future, when I grew up. To see such a foundational, essential cornerstone of my childhood that helped shape me into the man I am today, made an absolute mockery of? It stings. I don't think it'll ever not sting.

      this ^^^ 😔
the fact that they warped the definition of the characters so far just to attract an audience that was familiar with it, without even giving the original 2003-2006 teen titans a proper goodbye or anything, AS WELL as cutting the 5th season in half (it was supposed to be much longer, with slade coming back and taking over the brain's whole thing, check the TT wiki) is honestly really insulting to the artists, writers, VAs, and fans of the show. sure, not having a 6th season sucks (i'll be honest, i am still devasted lol), as that got cancelled as well, but they weren't even given the opportunity to properly finish the 5th one or create it how they originally wanted to. if they really wanted to make something like ttg, they should have come up with some unused side characters or different heros, or at least given the original closure. instead it's left with a cut season 5, cancelled 6th season, and cliffhangers, and then writers who admitted to never seeing the original teen titans are given the greenlight for ttg.
it's honestly so insulting to all types of artists that came together to create the original teen titans. sure, there is effort put into ttg, but it just completely disrespects the original it takes everything from. even the directors, when asked about rebooting the original, have their writers script in jokes in-show in ttg about the original teen titans being cancelled and if the 6th season will ever be made. there was one whole episode dedicated to making fun of it. just completely disregarding how much they owe the original tt for ttg's success in characters and storylines. it's just so insulting to the original and tt's team of artists and writers along with the fans who just want closure :/ as an artist and writer it really boils my blood with how disrespectful it is (obviously not everyone in ttg's team but it's just so wrong for them to mock the original and its fans like that for them being the core success of their show. smh)

i could seriously go on forever about so many different things teen titans 2003 did right, each season was planned to be about each character and treated them all with so much respect, love, and care... and then we were robbed of starfire's whole arc in season 6 that was supposed to be made, where we would have gotten more about her life on tamaran and her brother wildfire, as well as the gordanians having their own tie-in with star's arc, etc. it's just so... sad :(

I loved the original Teen Titans and was indifferent to Teen Titans GO until one of my baby sisters got sick with terminal brain cancer mid 2015. She loved the show before she got sick and it cheered her up since it was always on while we were at the children's hospital. I was her day to day Caregiver and I was with her overnight a lot so it eventually became a comfort show for the both of us. It also added to my love of Khary Payton who I discovered through his role on The Walking Dead during that same period. I haven't watched TTG since her passing in late 2016 but I still have good memories surrounding it and some of the running gags. I definitely understand where the hate came from but I can honestly say that it wasn't nearly as much of an atrocity as the overwhelming majority viewed and still view it as today. You touched on all the reasons why in the video. I'm glad you came around and shared your new opinions with us.

I remember thinking that they should have just made an original show, but realised that then they wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as much attention and started to think that they actually WANTED to upset fans of the original from the start in order to make their show stand out among comedy cartoons premiering on Cartoon Network

I've been a fan since the first episode of Teen Titans Go. As someone who also watched the '03 Titans while I was a teen myself, I quite enjoy it very much. I decided to go into Go with the mindset of knowing that it was its own thing from the get-go. And I've kept that mindset for the past 10 years. It's one of the shows I watch for the fun of it all. And like you said, the whole schedule domination thing was because of Cartoon Network execs. Besides, you didn't HAVE to watch the channel ALL DAY, so if you were mad at that, blame the execs. Overall, it's a fun, witty show, and I don't see myself hating it any time soon.
Now VELMA... oh yeah, that deserves ALL of the hate in the world. No, galaxy. NO, universe. NOOO, MULTIVERSE. Y'know what? It deserves all of the hate of the ENTIRE FREAKING OMNIVERSE. Over exaggeration? Maybe, but totally worth it.

The Night Begins To Shine series is excellent if you haven't seen it. As someone who watched Teen Titans Go first and watched the original years later, I never really hated the show. I thought it took a bit too far in some episodes, fart jokes are fart jokes, and it was far from my favorite show on the network, but I overall found the show genuinely funny and creative with its approach and ways of doing things compared to other shows at the time. I never saw it as the show most dc fans wanted it to be, I always saw it as what the show wanted itself to be. A laid back, fun and chaotic show that relaxes your brain. While the show has its moments here and there, the show never tries to be anything it isn't. The crew knew what the show was, and planned to keep it that way.
Even to this day, the show still retains those feelings, but it definitely leans more on its chaotic and creative sides as more seasons come. Despite being seen as and named the Teen Titans, they are nothing like the original teen titans at all. Heck, they don't fall into any formula that any superhero movie or show has dared take a dip into. You'd expect them to run out of ideas at this point, but one of the strongest points to this show is that you can do ANYTHING with it.
An episode where Robin is mad that he didn't get a free birthday ice cream and so mauls the Titans with wolves, that's an episode. An episode where the titans transform into cars and fight an evil military doctor, that exists too. An episode where Robin gets an intelligent and sentient message chair that relaxes the titans and the retire world to death, what do you think?
That's the beauty of this show to me, the chaos. You never expect what they'll do next, and they have no limit to their creativity.
The show isn't some grand masterpiece by any means, but it's such a unique show is so many regards, having it stand out so much in comparison to most other shows. Fans of dc ragged on it relentlessly, and Teen Titans Go in some ways used that as a strength. They were aware of its hatred and they did not care, they did what they wanted and it is absolutely commemorable.
I still enjoy this show to this day. Not in the same way as I enjoy shows with more focused plots, story, characters, and writing, but I see it as an excellent means to just let go. Have fun and just absorb the absurdity.

But they can also turn out some real garbo shlock, if you ask me. Some of the show is incredibly annoying, some is legitimate clever and funny. No show is perfect, and this show is a perfect showing of imperfect shows.
Also, I have my doubts the show staff never got bitter over the backlash with how they wrote episodes directly addressing their critics with all the subtlety of an atom bomb. One of the funniest things I've ever heard a showrunner say was when the creators where asked which Robin it was "Is this Robin Dick Grayson or Tim Drake" and a showrunner answered: "Do you really think we would make a character this insufferable and not take the opportunity to call him Dick?"

This show was hit and miss for me. It is a good case study on blind rage via nostalgia in a fandom. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug sometimes

The show's jokes about Raven's Legs and Robin being short made my blood boil more than a Minion Babbling or Caillou Crying.

I hated Go for awhile because I was bitter about the old show getting cancelled but when my kids started watching it and I realized that it wasn't all fart jokes and it kept doing episodes like Oregon Trail that my kids didn't even get I really came around in it.
I'll never be okay with how the original ended but I learned to appreciate Go. Even my mom loves Go and would watch it by herself haha! So we had 3 generations watching it. (She loved the references to 80s pop culture)
