  • Spend the day with me at the Springfield, Ohio Wild Horse & Burro adoption event!. This event was a pick up site for the January Online Corral (an online auction) and also had about 29 horses available for adoption. One of my favorite things while going is seeing the personalities of the horses - I hope you are able to see them too! While I was there, I was looking for a few horses from the January online corral. I found a very special one - a curly! hope you enjoy!
See the initial walk through of all the horses at this event here:

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING A WILD MUSTANG SOMEDAY??
..I HIGHLY recommend you watch/listen to these following videos. While these may not be the most exciting videos, these are ones you need to see if you are indeed serious about adopting.
1.) • Could bodywork be used... - this is a longer video, but worth the listen. Here I interviewed the bodyworker, Jim Masterson. He is known worldwide and is the founder of the Masterson Method, which is an integrative form of bodywork. Here he shares valuable insights that I believe every adopter needs to hear!
2.) • ARE YOU READY FOR A WI... - before you adopt, it is so important to consider if you are actually ready to take on a wild mustang.
3.) • BLM Mustang Adoption E... - this is another adoption event in New Hampshire, but in it is a TON OF INFORMATION on mustangs. A good starting point.

I adopted the "grey" gelding that makes appearances at 10:50 and 12:46. As he's shedding out I think he's actually a roan! I named him Nevada Silver Rush. We're calling him Nevada around the barn. At home in Germantown, Ohio, he met his new sister, a mustang I adopted in 2022, and his new cousin, my sister's quarter horse. My sister and I also make a very brief appearance at 9:35 😂

The one you named Lilly I was able to find out where she went actually!!! She was picked up right after I picked up Boaz!! The lady was very nice😁❤️ my mom was a fan of her so we where both very happy to see she was picked up right after my guy❤️
I also wanted to add that I and the owner of Boaz and I’m trying my best to track his training on my TH-cam channel!! It's so lovely to see the footage of the Curly Mustang. In the curly community people talk a lot about Curlies from Fish Creek, and also from Salt Wells. I didn't know they existed in... I think you said Black Rock? That bay Curly was so handsome.
It's so helpful that you named the horses throughout the video. If anything do that more please! There's was a cute chestnut in there that I wish I could identify, but i don't think you ever id'd it. I'm sure you can't get them all, but I love that you named so many of them.

Thanks for the feedback! I wasn't sure if it would be well received or just super cheesy and obnoxious! I know I've done past videos were I have referred to horses as "the horse that was scratching an itch" or the "horse that was laying down at minute 3",😂 I didn't like that so figured I'd try names!
and yes, this one was from Black Rock! I think the one in the current IA is also from Black Rock

Temporarily naming them was helpful in following the process of loading, etc. Nice Mustangs! The double-branded big mare, Frosty, and Snooze were gorgeous. My pick would have been 'Boopers''. Just because. I would have named him 'Galahad'.

  • @toodleloos

i loved your names 😂😂😂 Sugar and Spice were particularly clever imo! Sugar would be such a cute permanent name for that horse I think, she looks really sweet. If only those two could've gone together 🥺 do you know if that would be particularly difficult, having two mustangs to train at the same time? Seems like it would take a lot. Also you never know who your horse's bestie is in the pens, that's the sad part!

@@Twisted.Ginger that’s incredible! I have a friend who lives not far from Reno. I visited her there once very briefly. we stopped at Virginia City on the way to her place from Lake Tahoe. There was a trailer in Virginia city that had a nonprofit shop raising money for the wild horses. I was really enjoying being in there. They were playing some ragtime piano music, and it turned out to be a local artist. I bought two CDs. It was good to know the money would help the horses. But during that brief time, I didn’t make a point to try to see, wild horses, didn’t even occur to me.what you’ve written here makes me think I need to plan another trip out there! I will ask her if she ever sees them. I don’t think she’s a horsey person.

I adopted my wild-caught Mustang mare, as a 2yo, 16yrs ago. She will be 18. I used to wonder the same thing. Then I learned that my Mustang's HMA had an emergency round-up in 2015, because the horses were so emaciated. It was awful. I saw the pics...sat at my computer sobbing. All the locals, along with the off-roaders (as Wheeler Pass, NV is a huge off road area), were calling the BLM to DO something. Out of the 127 horses rounded up, 27 had to be put down, because they were so bad off. That's when I realized I gave my mare the best home she could have. Smartest mare I've ever owned. She was my daughter's and protected her on many a trail ride. Then my daughter turned 20, and horses weren't her thing anymore...so she became mine, because I have been a horse nut since I was 8yo. Bought my first horse at 16yo...and I just turned 70. The BLM did another gather from that HMA in 2017, luckily, with no horses having to be put down. The BLM is trying to manage these herds best they can. Mustangs breed like rabbits. Some of these mares are bred before they are 2 years old. It's not a beautiful life in the wild, rather they are surviving in the wild....and the wild isn't always as romantic as everyone thinks it is. The BLM has tried moving some of the herds to better areas, but they end up right back where they came from. That's just horses. If they do not "manage" the herds, they will starve. Starving, or being eaten alive, isn't the best way to die. They can geld the stallions, but ONE stallion can impregnate a LOT of mares. They've tried spaying the mares, but that takes a LOT of time, and then the mares really cannot be put back into the wild. There are no easy answers, unless you have one?
What I AM against is all the breeding of domestic horses, when there are 50,000 Mustangs who need good homes....and they have proven to excel at so many equine disciplines. Of course, I feel the same about the dog world. I will always adopt first.

Technically, they are feral horses, not true "wild" horses. A majority of the places that they live on the range in the UScannot support the continued expansion of the feral population. Without removing many of them, quite a few would just starve to death.
