Wood ash and inoculated charcoal (biochar) have been used as organic fertilizer in the garden forever. What happens when you use them in your garden? Ash from your fireplace or fire pit can be used in the garden as a free fertilizer. But it shouldn't be used in some situations. BioChar is expensive... UNLESS you know how to make your own.
