    Punch the Clock era Costello. Such an underrated album with a strong Dexy's influence.

    This 1983 period into and including the 1984 tour were great times ..I went to most gigs on those 2 tours even the support acts were pretty good ..the likes of Aztec camera prefab sprout the bluebells and the pogues .. Elvis and the attractions were on top form ..for me it never felt the same after that 84 tour ..was a special time to be a follower ..as for Steve nieve ? What a musician he is apart from all his wonderful contributions with the attractions ..just have a listen to him on Morrissey's 1991 album kill uncle..... finally what a contribution the TKO horns and afrodiziak made to the sound of punch the clock and the 1983 tour ..fantastic

      Entirely agree - saw them as a 14 year old touring the Goodbye Cruel World album at the Edinburgh Playhouse in 1984. They opened with Deportees Club. Completely blew me and everyone around me away. Saw them/him another 5 times after that over the years and never disappointed. Nothing will ever beat that first time though. Absolutely brilliant performer and The Attractions what an outstanding band.

      Agree, saw them 83 and 84, both fantastic, then in 86 (Big Wheel) it was still good but not quite the same. Remained a fan long into the 90's but as Elvis got more full of himself and the songs got more boring I couldn't keep interested. After Bruce was pushed out nothing Elvis has done is good (some of the Bachrach stuff is ok but it's far below good Bachrach)

      S'funny how much we rate an era based on its resonance to us when we were MOST receptive to the experience. Although I had his greatest hits on vinyl, I was far too young to appreciate any of his pre-1985 releases.
      For me, "King of America" and esp. "Blood and Chocolate" were the Holy Grail(s) - I was EXACTLY the right age to absorb them. The visuality (and heft) of LP covers is completely lost today - I stared at both covers and lyric sheets endlessly!
      What a great era to immerse yourself in! Your touring excursion w/ the band at that point sounds amazing. My problem is I live in the U.S. where casual travel was prohibitive at the time.
      Plus, I grew up in St. Louis, flyover country! I remember desperately wanting to see him and the Attractions on the spinning wheel tour, but there was absolutely NO way for a moneyless teen to jet to Chicago on a whim ;

    Many people don't realize Elvis is a very good singer. He could have been a jazz singer in the style of Mel Torme or Tony Bennett.
