ELVIS COSTELLO talks to film maker John Edginton about the great jazz trumpet player and vocalist, CHET BAKER. How he discovered and obsessed over Chet's music. In 1983, Elvis tracked Chet down in London and Chet agreed to play trumpet on Elvis's recording of the song "Shipbuilding".
In 1986 Elvis joined Chet onstage at Ronnie Scott's jazz club. In 1987, Chet recorded Elvis's song "Almost Blue".
The interview is largely unedited. Apologies for the interviewer's low audio.
Filmed at the Bowery Hotel, New York City. 2011. 34 mins
With thanks to Joia Speciale for Cinematography.

Never knew much of Elvis but he’s clearly brilliant and interesting to listen to. Chet Baker is a legend.
So humbly intelligent, so insightful, such good memory. You realize, in addition to talent, how much work and dedication there is behind great musical careers
Gotta love Declan/Elvis, one of the finest singer/songwriters of the last 50 years.
Amazing interview, Elvis is as much an astute musicologist as he is a musician. Very informative.
He’s astonishingly good on Chet isn’t he
Baker & Evans The Legendary Sessions is a great recording of the two geniuses.
I have been curious about how Chet Baker and Elvis Costello met. This is excellent. Thank you
My pleasure!
Absolutely fascinating, truly memorable.
Almost blue on the Tokyo album is incredibly good.

I love Chet's version of Almost Blue. I didn't even know Elvis wrote it.

There's a fascinating South Bank Show documentary on Costello's time in Nashville.
26:50 he describes CB as a “ minaturist.” Very insightful.
Fantastic interview, thanks for uploading
Glad you enjoyed it!
A strong later album of Chet’s is Baby Breeze. With some contemporary musicians like Frank Strozier and Phil Urso.
Love Baby Breeze Album.
Chet Baker was a musical genius. Such a sad story though.
