      Your way of reviewing the three blenders is just amazing and fair .. just want to thank you for the great effort you put and your nice way of demonstrating and explaining! And by the way I was between buying Philips and Ninja for making acai bowl .. Vitamix is quite expensive! Plus didn't come across it in the city where I live.

      LOL, I bought a Ktec (which changed it's name to Blendtec) some 20 odd years ago for $100 or so. It was a demo model that was used over the weekend at a fair. I love this blender so much, these high speed blenders like Blendtec & Vitamix are great. I use it every day and it's still chugging along, I did have to buy a jar or two but the motor is tough.

    The motor underneath lets off a slight smell and it's a little loud th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCKuMxLnvr6fJd_M4SE-n7trcGj3zEUHq but considering it's size and how hard it works to do the job, it's sort of expected. I assume the smell will go away over time. Overall, I love this cute little blender. The extra cups and lids are great too!

    The reason the Vitamix works so well (I have two vintage 70's models in stainless) is the fact that it has a motor with the torque of a diesel tractor coupled with blades that are. well.. they're not really blades at all. They could more properly be called pulverizing bars. Rather than attempting to slice food into ever-smaller bits, the Vitamix just obliterates it through sheer unbridled force. I was attempting to make cashew cream for a vegan dish, and pretty much burned out my old blender. A good friend lent me a Vitamix, and it was a revelation. No bits, no chunks, just smooth cream. That same day, I started scouring Ebay for vintage models, and picked up a perfectly working unit with original manuals for $75.

    • @kaiwryn
      @kaiwryn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Which is also why it keeps working for so long. A lot of people say to start with an entry level appliance to learn if you'll really use it, but I didn't want to get turned off because the smoothies I was making were bad. Plus, after researching I realized that I could resell my Vitamix for much closer to original price than I'd be able to sell the Ninja. I'm super happy with my purchase.

    • @jackblakeney2452
      @jackblakeney2452 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@anti-ethniccleansing465 I wouldn't say it's better? I mean, it's stainless, but that means you can't see through it, and the old ones have a side dispenser, but how often will you really use that? The new ones are larger, they have clear carafes, some are more powerful, and they cost $400(+). I like vintage stuff, and the fact that they were 1/4 of the going price was VERY attractive. If I had it to do over. I would still look for a vintage unit, but if I couldn't find one, a new unit at full(ish) price is an investment well worth making If you're actually going to use the thing.

      Thank you for the thorough response! I bet your stainless steel version keeps cold stuff really cold in it for a long time. :)
      I was mostly asking because I know, for example, the older KitchenAid stand mixers were beasts that lasted forever and were built so much better than the ones today. So many products these days have been changed to cut corners to save costs and thus their quality has diminished drastically, even though they are still selling the damn things at expensive prices.
      My mother recently gifted me an Explorian Vitamix E320, totally unexpectedly. She saw me using my magic bullet to make my smoothies, and saw that it would take me a really long time to do it. But I’ve desperately been needing a food processor for a long time, and was considering getting a refund for the blender to put towards the food processor I want, but I am thinking that it would be a mistake because there are many things I think this blender could probably do that a food processor can’t - I just need to do more research into all the things that I can make with this Vitamix that I would enjoy.
      Just curious… Have you ever made frozen yogurt with your blender? I’ve seen recipes where people mix yogurt with frozen fruit, but that isn’t the type of frozen yogurt I like. Not a big fan of fruit flavored frozen yogurt. I am wondering if you can make plain frozen yogurt in this blender by using just yogurt and ice and then adding the other things to it to make a flavor (my favorites would be adding cream cheese and pulverized graham crackers to make a cheesecake flavor, and another flavor by adding peanut butter and rice crispies to the neutral plain frozen yogurt base).
      We used to have a unique soft serve type of machine at a pizza restaurant I worked at a couple decades ago that would do this kind of thing, but I don’t know how exactly it worked on the inside of the machine. I am wondering if using this blender would make it come out as more of a slushy type of thing instead of solid solid frozen yogurt to eat on a spoon.
      Just to be clear, when I used that machine at the restaurant, the frozen yogurt base was already premade (the customer had a choice of choosing either a plain neutral vanilla looking frozen yogurt base or a chocolate base, and then they could add whatever toppings they wanted to and the machine would mix it all up to create a unique flavor).

    • @jackblakeney2452
      @jackblakeney2452 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@anti-ethniccleansing465 The unit is powerful enough that you could freeze yoghurt in cubes, add those along with whatever you wanted as flavoring, and just grind on! What you get will be super smooth, just don't do it long enough that the mix starts to cook!
      As far as food processors go, there are a ton of those on ebay for cheap as well. Vintage Cuisinarts don't wear out, and they end up on ebay or elsewhere with full sets of blades and accessories all the time!
      Have fun looking!

The full sized Ninja Professional blender is trash; which is how I ended up with a Vitamix. The og infomercial blue Ninja is still awesome. I still use it regularly but it doesn't make smoothies; it crushes ice way better than the Vitamix. I think you may want to keep looking if you need a powerful blender if really just want to make smoothies. There are likely cheaper options out there. Just don't buy a brand new Vitamix. Try a few from retailers with good return policies. And a Vitamix is not a food processor; it's a blender and that's all it's good for; it's not even all that great at crushing ice without liquid.

    To me, no contest. I have owned a Vitamix for almost 30 years. I did trade up once to get a red one, not because the original one was failing. The warranty alone tells you how good these are and the tamper is a game changer which oddly isn’t available on the others. There is also a dry container that fits the same base and lets you grind your own flours, spices, or any dry ingredients. Think of making almond or oat flour, confectioner’s sugar, kneading bread dough or making your own dry rubs to mention just a few of our uses. In the standard wet container we use this for multiple purposes and we make “nice cream” on a regular basis. I have also made delicious soups in it. It is an investment but will last much longer than the competition and has so much more capability that it is well worth it. It is also the one that most restaurants use, giving you another insight to its usefulness and durability.

    I have been through the Oster, Breville, Ninja…and finally Vitamix. My advice, just get the Vitamix. Most of the time it will last for years, whereas the others are less effective, with weaker motors. People have speculated why the Vitamix is smoother. I think it is the motor strength and rpm, which is much higher. None of the others turn anything in the tub into a smooth liquid. So, Vitamix works better, more durable, and will probably last much longer. So ultimately cost of ownership is less. Had I *started* with the Vitamix, I would have saved hundreds of dollars. BTW, I agree, the Njnja is terrifying to clean. Always a worry when the blades were in the wash drying rack!

    • @alexanderkupke920
      @alexanderkupke920 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just found this and you mentioned something that actually also explains, why those three smoothies looked so different. It has to do both with the container design and the blades.
      When it comes to the Hamilton beach, the kale is half cut half smashed, which releases a lot of green juice, turning the smoothie green. while not as effective, you can see those ribs in the container direct the liquid back into the blades. This is an important part the Ninja seems to be missing, everything goes straight to the sides. what also happens, those blades are so crazy sharp that they actually cut the kale so well that hardly any juice was released as the particles hardly were beaten by the blades.
      No for the vitamix, you see those vortex ribs direct everything back into the blade over and over. Also the blades, while sharp, are way thicker, so there is some beating action. But also, due to the way higher rpm (although the Ninja is not that slow either) something happens that is called cavitation. tiny bubbles form around or behind the blades due to the rotation speed and those bubbles implode more or less immediately which is like a tiny explosion every time. This may happen for example in pumps or with ships propellers as well, although there it is unwanted, as over time it causes severe pitting in the surface of the propellers or within the pump. So the particles are evenly cut, smashed, and smashed even more through cavitation, which almost grinds everything smooth. and also seems to aerate the liquid somewhat.

    When I was younger and moved about every year of my life, the cheap blenders were good enough for me. But once I got to where I was "into the kitchen" and really enjoying cooking, I was fortunate (over 20 years ago) to get a Blendtec (which at the time was called a Ktec Champ) and is very comparable to the Vitamix. I admit there have been some years I did not use it all that much, but over time I use it more and more and for more things. One thing you did not mention which I use it for REGULARLY now is milling my own flour! (Blendtec is a wee bit better at milling flour than Vitamix according to tests, but close enough to the same!) I now make my own cornmeal with it as well as blend my hard white wheatberries and rye berries for mixing with all purpose flour for the sourdough bread and other breads I make. A flour mill generally costs about $400, so this has been a real deal for me (plus I don't have to find a place to put a flour mill). What is great about milling your own flour is that the wheatberries, etc. stay fresher longer before being milled, so my flour is always fresh. I do find that with the Blendtec it is preferable to hold the container steady to the base with one hand and medium-light pressure when blending anything at a high speed. I used to have to get a new container every couple years, but since a chef taught me that trick I have had the same container for over 5 years now and it is still doing great. One last thing: I find that most things I blend to not even require soap and "washing" but just an IMMEDIATE rinse. Easy habit to get into. P.S. Nice demonstration. I never had a Ninja and I would have been scared of those blades too! I don't even keep a mandoline because I've cut myself on them before. Bottom line: I'd say if you are setting up a kitchen and love to cook, you owe it to yourself to go for a Vitamix or Blendtec. After 20 years I am still finding new uses for my Blendtec (and I do grind my coffee in it now too).

      I watched every review possible, comparing the top brands against each other before I purchased a Blendtec 7 years ago. I chose it because the spinach was completely blended in the smoothie, no bits were left. Plus when the guy dropped an entire orange into all of them, I saw what I needed to see. Also, did not like poking around in the container if I don't have to. My mother with Dementia was with us for nine years and that spinach had to disappear or she wouldn't drink it.

    Very honest review. Totally sold on the Vitamix and will start saving up.
    I've had a smaller Ninja for about 6 years. Just some advice for those that are interested. It says dishwasher safe, and it kind of is for the most part, but I think the dishwasher wears the plastic down over time. I'm on my second container, and it's also cracked to shit. Yesterday I went to blend just ice, and it cracked the lid on the first pulse. So while they work well, the plastic container and lid wear out over time. I absolutely think the dishwasher contributes to this. If you've ever had a hard plastic locking tupperware lid crack on you, you'll know what I mean. Plastic does not do well longterm, it degrades. The less harsh you are on it the longer it'll live. Dishwashers often have hot and cold cycles, they're kinda harsh.
    I think Vitamix knows this and recommends against the dishwasher because of it. IMO thats a consumer oriented choice. Ninja is happy to sell you a replacement container for way too much money, and you will need one. I know a lot of people that have had the same vitamix for nearly a decade with no replacements.
    Funny tho that the Hamilton Beach being the worst of the bunch has a nice glass heat resistant container. I wouldn't hesitate throwing that in the dishwasher at all. (But not the lid)

The A3500 is my fifth Vitamix blender, and I can not imagine purchasing anything else. I have only upgraded to newer models for features, not because there was anything wrong with my older/previous models. From my experience, Vitamix blenders do not break. Problem: homes are not restaurants or cafes.
      Domestic usage patterns are completely different from commercial, high turnover operations.
      The vast majority of people will use a blender infrequently, and when they do, they're mostly for smoothies. They're not professional cooks, and they may not even cook frequently. For those people, just getting a cheaper unit for smoothies is probably the better bet.

      @@w0mblemania The point I was making was quality of blend not durability (which is still is but my comment was not about that. A smoothie in Vitamix is smoother and clearer than any Ninja or otherwise. The restaurants choose these blenders because of its quality of performance in addition to reliability. If you could not care less about tiny chunks in your smoothie then get yourself a basic blender. A Vitamix can make soups, butters, sorbets, and more in addition. First, your review is pretty good. Next, I have to correct you on the Ninja presentation, my Ninja has a 1500 watt motor and came with smoothy cups that have a different blending base that attaches to the cup and sets right into the base without any other attachments or converters. It also came with a food processor attachment and multiple discs and blades all at a costco price of $179. The processor chops slices and makes dough all of which I have successfully used it for. I've also just made cookie dough in the blender itself and flours from whole grains in the blending cups as well as grind coffee and make nut butters. Oat milk took about 5 minutes start to finish including straining and tasted better than store bought. Pancake a waffle batter a snap even down to grinding the flour fresh from whole grain for family members who couldn't eat wheat. I've owned my ninja for several years, I've lost count, it still works like new and the company has wonderful customer service. When I first got it I accidently left something (? still unknown) in the food processor portion and cracked the lid of the container when I turned it on. When I contacted customer service they sent me a new one free of charge. I never ever have cut myself on the scary looking blade system because there is plenty of space to hang on to it away from the blades when removing or replacing or washing it. I have also owned vitamix in the past and love it. The explorian series you are demonstrating is the entry level vitamix and as you show still superior to any other blender though the ninja kitchen system model is very very nice for most the most versatile runner up. When I saw that vitamix now has the food processor attachment for the ascent series I gave my ninja system to my daughter-in-law because yes the vitamix is still the best. I love the difference in the smoothies that you show but to be fair the order in which ingredients are added can make a big difference in the outcome. From researching juicers I learned that the difference in color you were seeing is probably the difference in the breakdown of the ingredients and their exposure to oxygen. Ninja advertises that the high speed at which their machine operates releases more nutrients from the ingredients into the mixture. My (newly refurbished from vitamix so less expensive) v1200 is ordered and I can't wait for it to get here. Thank you for the comparison video even though I am correcting some of your information I still think it was well done and easy to watch.

    I use a simple kitchenaid immersion blender for my smoothies. It's fast and it gets the job done. You're not going to get it vitamix-smooth, but as you said, that level of perfection is not exactly a big deal for a smoothie (in fact, I prefer the thicker more heterogynous feel). Based on your review though, if I was interested in starting to make soups or or trickier things, I'd invest in a vitamix because that's definitely a superior result. I came away from this review feeling that vitamixes are definitely worth the cost, but only if you plan to actually do the things that make vitamixes so good. If you're just making smoothies, you can absolutely be happy with a much cheaper blender.

It eventually jacked up the blade mechanism (dishwasher heat probably removed the blade lubrication and rusted it out bearings). You can wash the Vitamix container in a dishwasher, you just need the blade wrench to remove the blades first. I do this all the time. I believe the ninja somewhere says it is made from the same Eastman tritan plastic that the Vitamix container is made from. Also I have a Meila dishwasher that uses warm air to dry the dishes instead of having a big heating element down there to dry the dishes, so you never get that problem of cracking plastic from the heating element.

    Vitamix blenders are supreme because they have patented hardened stainless steel blades unlike other blenders, ordinary blenders either have sharp blades or dull blades, Vitamix blades are engineered to provide both options, the sharp edge cuts some breaks down foods and the flat edge works like a hammermill to smash and pulverize. Obviously with both those actions happening that's what produces a completely smooth smoothie with no bits.

    Great review! You did a thoroug job on comparing different price points. I have been wanting a Vitamix for the last 10 years! I currently have a nutri-bullet which I have owned for 7 years...I think I deserve an upgrade!!

    Like you I’ve had several other blenders in my lifetime-including that Ninja main artery obliterator. Scary AF blade!!
    Finally upgraded my blender (and, as a result, my life) a few years ago.
    Hands down the Vitamix. Even if you only do smoothies. Best warranty. Best blade (dull blade). Best motor. Best available accessories. Best versatility.
    If I had to go with any other, I’d reluctantly go with Blendtec-simply because I’m not compromising quality (they too use a dull blade). Trust me-you want the dull blade. They’ll never go bad.
    Again…Vitamix ALL DAY!
    Great video!

    👋*The absolute best way to wash blenders is to literally just *blend soapy hot water* after quickly rinsing with hot water.*👋
    It takes 2min to finish. I would never use a dish washer or hand clean a blender after finding this method.
    Hope this helps

    Great video
    Thank you. I have 2 ninjas, 1 is the same as the one you tested. But the other is a single serve sz with a lid with the blade in it that you turn upside down. It is phenomenal! It blends my spinach in my smoothie as smooth as your vitamix in 3-5 sec.
    Tks!

    The difference in power of these units makes a big difference. The Vitamix is 1400 watts. The Ninja is 1100 watts, and the Hamilton Beach is only 700 watts.

    Thank you for your video, I actually bought the Ninja professional 1200 watts. I had the black and decker blender and it was a problem because it kept leaking into the base where the electrical wire was. I had to retire it. I tried the Ninja at a friends house and was very impressed with it. I am not at the Vitamix level yet where I am using it to make all the different items you mentioned in your video. I am happy with the ninja so far and I remain optimistic that it will do all of what I want it to do.

    Bought a Vitamix a few yrs ago and the difference between it and the most high-end kitchen blender is incomparable. The Vitamix easily blows the rest away - a pricey investment, no doubt, but well worth it.

    the vitamix line of products is like the industrial level of products, it's exactly what it promises, it lasts for years, it hardly ever breaks down, the only problem is the price, but after you buy it once you won't need to make any other investment in that field until you're dead.

      Yeah. I made the mistake of buying a knockoff competitor (Montel Williams Healthmaster Elite Blender) thinking I could get decent performance and save a few bucks. Not only was it even louder than the Vitamix, but the engine seized up while I was making a smoothie. It would've been cheaper to have bought the best product the first time. Twelve years later, my Vitamix still runs like new.

    Bought the Ninja because it was $54 at Costco. But the splatter thing is real. On the good side, to make other types of grinding, the three blade system works well.

    This is a great review thank you. I own the Ninja and yep, thats what a ninja smoothie looks like. The lid looks good, but cleaning it is a nightmare. Gunge gets caught inside the lid and in the spaces at the bottom of the container. Over time it gets quite gross.

      She went easy on the Ninja, if you put whole Red Kale, you're lucky if you get hairballs in your boba tea straws after blending it 106°F, usually it'll tangle the shaft.

    I purchased a Vitamix about 13 years ago and still use it all the time. Still runs like the day I bought it using the same picture and same blades. It is the older model with the taller picture. CIA Professional model I believe and best money I ever spent without doubt. Perfect smoothies every time in 45 seconds using all frozen fruits and veggies!

    Just an FYI - the manual says to never start the vitamix at full power. I think you're supposed to start it at 1 and raise it to the full power. Not sure if that's just being extra precautionary, but I imagine it's probably better for the gears due to the speed at the highest setting.

    I thought I’d like the Ninja until smoothie test. I think I’m going to invest in a Vitamix.
    I have a medical alert bracelet like yours, but I bought a Trollbeads bracelet (similar to Pandora but has a more flexible woven chain and lots of decorative clasps). I bought two clasps and put them on either side of the alert medallion. Trollbead has several different lengths of bracelet chains so your bracelet will fit even with the two clasps and medallion. The Trollbead chains fit Pandora and other brands of beads.
    I’ve never had a problem with medical personnel recognizing my medical bracelet, and I love how pretty and personal it is. My husband and mom have bought me several different beads.

    Very thorough review, really well done. I did think the quantity of ingredients should have been proportional to the jug size though for a fairer comparison. Also the cheapest blender wasn’t pulsed first when blending ice which gave a higher chance of clogging.

    I will say the main pitcher for the Ninja is definitely NOT a great smoothie maker... but the single serve cup does a very decent job of liquefying ingredients. I personally enjoy my Ninja but I can accept its limits.

    I use total Blendtec for seven years and it still works fantastic! This morning I made banana cocoa and peanut smoothies with oats into a liquidity drink. Other times, I made various fruit smoothies. Also, I stirred up the carrot, raisins, cinnamon, cashew milk, and almond powder mix and then pour it into a pan and heat it in the oven for a carrot cake. Yummy! 👍😋👍

    I have the ninja, and it comes with the blades to make smoothies, dough, and all the other things you mentioned the Vitamix can do. The blades are not scary and if you're afraid, you should stay away from sharp knives. Also the customer service is amazing. You actually get a live rep from America.

    My Vitamix is about 30 years old and it does all the things the one you show does. I also have the Ninja and a Hamilton Beach. Personally, I use a little Magic Bullet for just about everything but preparing foods or drinks for a crowd. Each blender excels at doing different tasks with some overlap between them.

    I love my Vitamix it's just so versatile. I use it for things ranging from pizza dough to hummus, falafel mix, almond butter, smoothies, pureed soups. The only thing I wish is that the version I had would have a smaller food processor type top to it. It really is a pain when making something like almond butter or hummus to then get it out of the huge container.

    Another thing worth noting about the Vitamix is their AWESOME warranty. It's the main reason I purchased it. I use a blender almost every day and I went through 2 Ninjas and a Blendtec in 3 years before going to a Vitamix. I've now had my Vitamix for 5 years and the motor just started acting up. No issues at all sending it in to be fixed! Fantastic company and the warranty alone means it was actually cheaper for me in the long run!

    I bought the ninja professional 1500 watt with the food processor and smoothie cups about 8 years ago and we use almost daily. Shreds cheese great but as a food processor you have to be very careful or it will chop too fine. The blade for the blender is so sharp in the beginning I sliced my finger pretty good, but after 8 years I want to get it sharpened or I might just replace it. I bought it from Costco for $125 and I think it has served me well.

    I love my Vitamix. I've had it for over 20 years and the only problem I ever had was the variable speed (potentiometer) had issues. Found a TH-cam video how to replace it, bought it on Amazon and replaced it myself. I make smoothies, pudding, sorbet and soup in it. So many recipes online for it too. Well worth the money.
