      Sorry, but that is not the only reason. Custer should never been placed in charge. The real Regimental Commander, Col. Sturgis was stuck on a recruiting mission and should have had overall command since he out ranked Custer and second, Custer did almost no recon and stumbled into the battle totally unprepared as well as split up his command so they could not support each other

    I often wonder. If the folks who fought this battle would come back what would they think of the state of current "reenactments" of the day of their death?
    Somehow I believe these are more entertainment for the public than a reflection of historical accuracy!

    • @sgtstedanko7186
      @sgtstedanko7186 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally think reenactments are disrespectful. It's making entertainment out of death and destruction. Let those killed in battle rest and leave the battlefields in peace. That is sacred ground soaked in blood. Not something to be trampled on with people playing army.

    • @shovel662
      @shovel662 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sgtstedanko7186I completely understand, but consider this. Reenactors spend a lot of time going over records and diaries trying to create a authentic (and safe) approximation of these people’s experiences. Re-enactors have to put themselves in their shoes. I think it is more respectful than letting the event fade into some obscure text to be used for some ideological talking point. These were real people, and texts simply struggle to convey that.

Usually cavalry can get away with this, but because the Native forces were also mostly mounted, it didn't end well for the 7th Cavalry.
