  • When homemaking is hard with a newborn life feels challenging. I share my day homemaking postpartum preparing from scratch food for my low income family of five. Homemaking on a budget.
    Recipes:
    Sandwich loaf
    -1/2 cup active starter
    -3 tablespoons honey or sugar
    -1 stick of butter
    -8 cups flour
    -2 cups water
    -3 teaspoons salt
After mixing oil the bowl and dough. Cover dough and let rise again until it doubles in size.
Shape dough into a loaf pan. Place parchment paper in loaf pan before dough. Let rise for 2 hrs covered in a warm place! Brush with egg wash and place in the over @375 for 45 minutes!
When done remove from pan while warm!
Freezes well and stores well in a plastic bag in the fridge or on counter.
    Flaky Pie dough :
1 stick plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter chilled
    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 tablespoon sugar
    3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
    1/2 cup ice cold water
Combine dough do not knead. Work quickly and place back in fridge. Let chill for at least two hours. Then roll out and use.
    Brown butter Chocolate chip cookies
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    3/4 tsp kosher salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
    1/3 cup granulated sugar
    2 tsp vanilla extract
    1 large egg
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Brown the butter on stove bring to a boil until amber brown let butter set up in fridge until solid
Cream butter and sugar together and then add the rest of ingredients into the bowl. I prefer to use a stand mixer but can be done by hand.
Chill in fridge for at least two hours. Bake @350 for about 10-14 minutes until golden around edges of cookie
    Sourdough pancakes
    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons granulated sugar1 teaspoon salt1 cup milk
1 large egg 4 tablespoons butter melted
1/2 cup sourdough starter 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Mix together everything but eggs and baking powder. Add those the next day. Place in fridge for 12-24 hrs to ferment or make right away if you want a sourdough discard recipe.

I hear you on the babies and children take lots of time! I’m super impressed by parents who put in the work and get things done outside of parenting too. In my law class, I have a few that are single parents and they do it all on their own (legal responsibility/decision making) + work extra evenings and weekends to make ends meet financially. I don’t have any children so I help a few of them out when there are exams, lectures and seminars when the class is divided into smaller groups. Nothing much but pick their children up from daycare, cook them meals, a walk for 30-40 minutes or take them to the library. They help me with taking notes if I have a bad cold and can’t make it to a lecture. Having a social context is so important. Sometimes we don’t even do anything, only confirm that we are tired from time to time. / Scandinavian

It is always so good to make something nutritious for your family and the smile on their faces when they eat it. It is such a good moment as a mom and wife! That was sweet of your husband! Post partum brain fog is real! I remember with all my children having it. The struggle is real. You work so hard, I hope you are getting good rest periods. Mamas with babies just need to be slower and do what you can, when you can. Mamas need to remember there is a little human that is more important than a showroom home. I know so many woman that had the guilt because they couldn't get everything done they used to. I am sending hugs to all the mamas out there. You are doing a great job!

God created the World in 6 days and rested on the 7th. Jesus is our Sabbath rest. I would encourage you that whatever season that you are in, to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When you grow weary, He will strengthen you. Postpartum brain? Let His Word renew your mind. Feeling irritable? Pray through the fruit of the spirit. Set your mind on Him.
This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness. -Elisabeth Elliot

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3
And a quote by CK Chesterton on Motherhood.
How can it be a large career to tell other people's children about the Rule of Three, and a small career to tell one's own children about the universe?
How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No. A woman's function is laborious, but because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness.
