    My entire production trailer is centred around the four preconfigured fps I own. I dumped my two REDS for 4 fps. Best move I’ve ever made. Fp is a camera for people who use cameras. It’s phenomenal. Totally versatile, can be mounted on any grip device in existence. Best camera ever made for the independent. Appropriately ignored by gear heads who don’t get it.

    Completely agree with all your points. I'm "in the industry," having owned 3 Reds in my life, working with Sony Venices and all flavours of Alexa for our Drama productions. BUT - nothing has excited me as much as the Sigma FP. I was pulled in the moment I saw their launch film, SIN SIN - had just bought an Epic W - but sold it immediately after and got two of these. Just when I get itchy and look around - the Sigma pulls me back in with stunning imagery. I can't believe the "indie" crowd haven't jumped on it. I think there's a honeymoon going on with BMPCCs (which are great in what they do) and other larger manufacturers, but there's been nothing like this camera - which is so capable of knocking it out of the park - if you take you time to learn it. SUBBED!

      Wow! That’s so funny another commenter also said he had gotten rid of his RED rigs and went for fp’s. Seems to be a bit of a trend and I see why! haha I’ve actually gotten so many compliments on the filmic quality of the some new footage I’ve taken. It’s crazy how people aren’t talking about it more haha
      I agree that the indie world seems kind of obsessed with the pocket cameras right now and for good reason definitely but damn if the fp doesn’t give it a run for it’s money! I’ll be doing a comparison video soon actually haha
      But anyway, thanks for the comment and appreciate the sub mate! Cheers!

      @@HeliumTurtle I'm waiting for some daring soul to produce a feature filmed entirely with the FP. It just needs one breakout moment - and then I think people will be all over it. As I mentioned Sin Sin was cinema grade in quality. Trying to get my studio to look at it as a serious option. Looking forward to your comparisons. Best of luck!

    This was great. There are so many reviews out there that don’t get the concept of this great, little camera. I agree with you on everything you pointed out. I have invested much time to investigate on the monitoring and ISO behavior of the fp. Finally in combination with the Ninja V I have found a working solution for me which gets both the monitoring picture and the metering right. Basically after reading through your posts I understood that the fp is ISO invariant and has only two native ISO values available for metering and recording. (ISO 100 & ISO 3200) Others are digitally amplified. False color screen with the Ninja V is working on both of these ISO values to meter the correct exposure. However as a lot of you have mentioned the Rec709 monitor view is only showing the correct picture in ISO 100. The 3200 setting will be overexposed and useless. After several tests I have figured out that if you set the Ninja V to PQ the ISO 3200 screen will look correct. Different story for ISO 100, but this can be tricked if you select ISO 400 in camera. Screen will look exactly the same now for both ISO values. Metering for ISO 100 is unaffected, since the false color mode is only showing the values for ISO 100. Since the recorded ISO values of the Ninja V are pushed into Final Cut Pro X you will get an overblown picture in Rec709, BUT and this is really nice, if you select ISO 100 instead of ISO 400 and ISO 640 instead of ISO 3200 everything will look as expected. Correctly metered and captured. Remember, in the additional manual of the fp in regards to the ISO behavior, Sigma is mentioning ISO 100 and ISO 640 for photos...If you need to work with Zebras the correct settings are for ISO 400 => 55% and for ISO 3200 => 60% if you want to avoid anything in the 100% range. You could go slightly higher as the fp has some more headroom over 100 IRE. Quite a lot of hassle if you ask me, but once you have got used to this you will get a nice picture on both. Hoping this will help some of you.

    • @HeliumTurtle
      @HeliumTurtle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow I actually wasn't aware of any of this thanks for info mate! Like I mentioned in the comment above about exposure metering, I haven't come across any issues in getting things to look correct both in camera and in post as it appears as though my metering tools have been working fine to gauge exposure for all ISO's (I'm on a Smallhd 702) but perhaps I've just been flying a little blind unaware of the ISO invariance. Thanks for the comment dude!

    Best sigma fp video I have seen yet (I think I have seen most by now). You are one of the few who mention sound, and you say it is non-existent. What do you mean by that, exactly? Can I not attach an external mic? And, how do you like the newer flat compressed video (quasi s-log)?

    The biggest and only issue for me with this camera is the inaccurate exposure scopes / zebra. Unusable on a professional film set with video village as there are issues on any ISO other than 100. I'm not sure if the new false colors update that is coming to the fp will be a good alternative to properly exposing the image. I love this camera! It is just too much hassle to deal with on film sets, really too much hassle. It's already stressful shooting a film, now imagine doing that with additional unnecessary calculations and underexposing your footage and never knowing how it will exactly look like in post, as it will always look overexposed (imagine the director's frustration). Anyways maybe the new false colors addition might actually be the solution, but I'm doubtful. Great video by the way! Subbed :)

    • @HeliumTurtle

      Thanks for the sub mate! Shoot CDNG to dedicated cam 2TB ssd, run all footage from that day through Slimraw strait off the cam SSD and put the new compressed versions onto the 2nd ssd with all project files. sad to say, but the size is what turns people off, and its just shocking to me. Both the general public and most professionals form their opinions on appearance, and I hate it. If I show up to a documentary and shoot some shots with my iPhone 13promax I will get kicked out. why? if I pull out fully kitted Komodo the client is like "yesss, a professional camera" but I use my BMPCC6k pro in "run n gun light mode" theyre like "are you taking photos or film? whats that thing?" . Now if my 6kpro is in the cage and kitted with the usual suspects, follow focus gearhead and (of course a matte box, whether its needed or not) im suddenly a "professional" again. Ive always thought the "professional" is whats BEHIND the camera. If I showed up to a shoot with the FP I would be laughed off the set. why? I guess "size matters" when it comes to perception and its destructive and dumb. creativity should be about what the tools let you do. If you can create a beautiful, emotionally moving, impactful or energetic, or solemn and peaceful shot... Who cares if you use a hammer or a screwdriver. as long as its a place someone wants to visit then it shouldn't matter. sadly it does, and it drives the reckless thirst for gear acquisition. I keep hearing it’s a “lower than 1500$ cam” but I can’t get my hands on one at this price level from France. Is there a hype that would explain the current 2000$ price tag? Any store I can look at? Great video, subscribing :) Thanks!

      Haha my bad mate, yea I guess it would’ve made more sense to upscale my cam to match the footage rather than the other way around. But hey thanks for watching! Cheers!

      @@JS-df5vy well, what I mean is I usually upscale to 4K but I forgot on this video since it was more of a review, The full “across America” video that I linked in the description can be viewed in 4K/24🤘🏼

    Please don't promote this camera (Simga fp - foolish purchase). It has been one of the worst investments I have ever made in camera gear. It's pathetic to say the least. The worst color science and image format. They promised to have a LOG format and did not fulfill it, which as a Japanese company they must be terribly ashamed of. I would highly recommend people to go for any other camera but this. PLEASE!!!
