I watched all your videos! So happy someone is showing how to make these leis I’ve been wanting to learn just never found a good tutorial and NOW I KNOW because of you. Thank you doll more tutorial videos on the Tonga leis please. Malo ❤️
Mahalo. Made a practice one yesterday after watching your video a couple of times. It turned out pretty ok. Think I did too many twists before adding each filler piece of Ti leaf. Will twist less between pieces for the next one I practice on. Then I need to figure out how to best pack it to fly to mainland with me without ruining it.
Hi! Love your videos. How long of a lei were you able to make with the five ti leaves? I want to make sure I’m getting enough supplies for the length I need. Thank you!
This style will remain fresh for 3-5 days. Keep it wrapped in a damp paper towel at the bottom of the fridge on the lowest setting. This type of lei does not need to be misted with water. Let the lei air dry for 30 minutes before wearing to dry out and prevent any staining of clothing
Thank you for the tutorial! I am getting married on June 10, 2023 in Houston and wish to make these for my fiance, son and 2 more grooms men. How far in advance could I make theses they still look fresh? Thank yiu!
This lei will last up to 3-7 days if kept in a plastic bag in the refrigerator on the lowest setting. It does not need to be misted with water. Before wearing the lei, hang it on a hanger and let it dry out for 30 minutes!
Aloha! I just want to make sure I understand this right, the finished lei was long enough for someone to wear with just 10 leaves total? I am trying to figure out how many I need for someone 5’8. Mahalo
Here are my best tips on sourcing ti leaves in the US (Foraging, ordering through a floral wholesaler, local retail flower shop, flower market or ordering online). If you live in a tropical area where Ti Leaf grows, you can forage or grow it. Make sure to do your research on how to remove the leaves correctly so that you do not cause damage and the leaves will grow again. Local Wholesale Floral Supplier - Most wholesalers require you are a business and have an EIN/sales tax ID. Some wholesalers sell to the public. You can shop from their flower cooler of items on hand or place an order in advance. Your local flower shop may let you special order bunches of Ti Leaf in advance at retail price. If you live near a flower market (like the Los Angeles Flower Market) you can shop there. Ti Leaf is usually in stock or you can order ahead of time and you don’t normally need a business license to shop there. Lastly, you can order from an online wholesaler. If you google wholesale ti leaf, you will find many different options. Many of the online wholesalers don’t require you are a business but they usually have a minimum like $100.
I buy ti leaves wholesale as a business and they are usually $10 for a bunch of 10 leaves. In the description of the video linked below there are some ideas on how to source ti leaves th-cam.com/video/ruZ3a374h9M/w-d-xo.html

Thank you
Thanks for watching!!
This is sooo helpful. Mahalo!
Question, how long should it hang to dry the sap?
quick Q: can u explain what it means to “do the same on the other side” to make it a dbl maile lei?
Have you tried holding the end with something heavy? I was taught to do it that way just seems a lot less work
Yes, my favorite thing to use is a kettleball!
How long do these type of leis generally measure when finished? Have a tall 6’3” grandson to make one for.
A standard one is usually about 6 feet long. I would recommend doing 7-8 ft long for your grandson

How long will a ti leaf lei remain fresh? Or how far in advance can one be made?

🌺Wonderful demo & clear instructions… mahalo nui! ☺️🤙🏽
how many tea leaves did you use for one lei? I have to make 14 lei's the same length you made yours.
In the beginning she said she uses abt 10 leaves total, use more if you’re using small leaves (abt 13-15)

Can you microwave it if you don’t have time to freeze it over night?
Yes! There are several methods to soften ti leaf. You can microwave, boil or iron if you don’t have time to freeze it.
How do I soften the ti leaves that doesn’t go in the freezer?
You can also soften them by putting them in a pot of boiling water for 1-2 minutes or ironing them
If you dry them out after taking it out of the freezer, it wont be sticky/sappy or wet
Can this also use ribbon if you don't have a way to get ti leafs.
You can order from Florida and they overnight it. Or from Hawaii but it takes longer. You can try with ribbon but it doesn’t hold the same
What are ti leaves called!?
If ordering, it’s just called Ti leaves🙏🏾
Do you think I could keep these in the freezer longer than an overnight?
You can keep the frozen ti leaves before making the lei for months in the freezer. The finished lei will be good in the fridge for up to 7 days
Aloha! I just want to make sure I understand this right, the finished lei was long enough for someone to wear with just 10 leaves total? I am trying to figure out how many I need for someone 5’8. Mahalo
Yes, if they are large ti leaves 10 will be enough -5-6 softened/frozen and the rest fresh to cut the smaller pieces
