I did a late April update too :p Great update, and good luck with your yard work (and house sitting). I've got a lot of yard work to do this year as well (lots of trees to cut :p).
American Sphinx sounds interesting and Ellis is, in my experience, a good writer.
Yeah. I liked his Adams book better than his Jefferson book, and the narrators may have played a role in that. Still, this has made me want to read Twilight at Monticello to get a better sense of who Jefferson became in his later years.
_The Island at the Center of the World_ sounds like it would fill in a lot of missing gaps for me.
Yeah. It did for me. I wish it had gone into the revolutionary period though. How did the English giving some of the representation that the Dutch colonists had always wanted, play into the revolutionary period? Is that why New York was a haven for loyalist sympathies?
Nice list of books that you read through. Disappointing about The Anglo Saxons, the subject matter itself is fascinating, just sounds like it was poorly executed. American Sphinx is on my long tbr list.
