Story behind this ghost (i have been at longleat for so long i have it memorised lol): We start with Lady Louisa Carteret. When she was 19 she married the 2nd Viscount of Weymouth who was called Thomas Thynne in 1733. Before she moved miles from home, which she obviously wasn't happy about, Thomas agreed to allow her to bring her own serving staff to Longleat as part of their wedding arrangements to make her more willing to come. Anyway, along with her other staff and stuff, she brought a footman who she kinda saw as a best friend, and he loved her, which at the time was looked down on by the other longleat staff so they got jealous of what seemed to be favouritism by Lady Louisa towards this young man. This caused rumours and suspicions to be created that Louisa and her footman were in a secret relationship and although the rumours were not true, Thomas found out and thought that his wife was having an affair. Thomas, who had a bad temper, took the first second to find the footman in a passageway outside the old library on the first floor beside a spiral staircase. Thomas was all like "bro you tapping my woman" which the footman obviously denied, and Thomas didnt believe him so threw him down the stairs to the cellar, the footman broke his neck and died. Apparently Thomas didnt mean to kill him i think, so had him buried there in the cellar so no one would see the body and no one would know. He just told Louisa that the footman had just left without warning. Because the footman was so full of admiration for Louisa, obviously she did not believe him and she suspected her husband had locked him up somewhere inside the enormous house. Upset and scared, from that day on she spent many days and nights frantically searching every room, and those that were locked she demanded be opened. However unfortunately she died in 1736 aged 22 during childbirth. She never found the footman. Shortly after her death, reports from staff claimed they had seen Lady Louisa travelling the passageway where the incident had taken place, which is now called the “Grey Lady’s Walk.” Even today (i swear to God i saw her myself two days ago) she is heard banging on doors in a desperate and endless search to locate the whereabouts of her footman. "She was a beautiful young woman in life and it is said by those who claim to have seen her, that she retains her beauty in death". The Grey Lady is the most frequently seen of Longleat’s ghosts, even the Marquess of Bath claims to have seen her on occasion. Want to know the creepy part? you may think this is just some stupid made up ghost story but evidence to back up the death of the footman and ghost story came alive when central heating was being installed in 1903. It had been necessary to lower the floors in the cellar to accommodated the boiler and pipes. Whilst digging up the flagstones, builders discovered the skeletal remains of a male wearing what appeared to be the remains of jackboots and fragments of a uniform of a footman of the period. To avoid any scandal, the bones were collected and quietly interred in the local churchyard. The ghost story finishes with the fact that Lady Louisa mainly haunts the ground floor and servant quarters looking for her footman and the footman haunts the first floor and residential part of the house looking for his Lady Louisa. The End.
Thank you, that's interesting but kind of sad.. I wish someone could tell them to follow the light.. so they won't spend the rest of their lives lingering on earth.
Knowing that Lady Louisa and the Footman have been looking for each other for like, over 200 years is quite terrifying but extremely sad, but what i don't get is, How would they not find each other, if they're in the same place, or in the same house.
@@cindybeatty4596 true, it is quite unfortunate, hopefully they'll be blessed to rest. Also thanks for letting me know a new fact.. Guess you really do learn something new everyday.
@@NormalChannel95 I believe I just learned something that I'm a little embarrassed to admit... Apparently, they use projectors at Longleat House. So, that ghost coming down the stairs is something that the staff does to scare the tourists. The 2 kinds of hauntings are real though. Just not real when you see the ghosts on a projector. Lol. 😁
In a video by Top 5's he explains that this staircase has a hologram of a ghost walking down stairs for the tourists. So to everyone that films this "ghost" and believes hahaha
Guys this is real it happened before with another guy his name on TH-cam is top5s and type up creepiest ghost sightings and the last one is this longleat House one
+flyersluver4eva It totally fooled my friend when we visited recently. Luckily, I had seen it before to know it was a routine hologram. She literally freaked out, though. Funniest thing I've ever seen. xD
Top5s himself explains that it's just a hologram. He presents it as if it's really a ghost, but actually the thing he wants to show you is his camera bugging out towards the end of the video, which for some reason makes him thing something paranormal's going on...
That's where I first saw this was on his video. I swear to God, I honestly thought it was real. I kept thinking "holy shit, this is the BEST piece of actual ghost footage ever recorded!" It wasn't until I went back some time later and watched the video again, that I caught him saying that it was a hologram. He sure had a lot of people fooled though!
Here's something to point out about the paranormal. It's not whether or not science can explain it. It's whether or not the human brain can explain it. Because there are things that are so far out there that it's too complicated for our brains to fully understand. And I think ghosts are an example. Also, I remember seeing this video on the Top5s TH-cam channel.
Thanks for sharing this looked so cool. Tell me though the Roman numerals at the end did you leave out the X intentionally and instead of writing 2013 you wrote 2003 :-)
I saw this, its good, at intervals, the lights flash and you see the projection (fake ghost of course) its good though when you are walking around and don't know its coming lol
Now, I am not saying that all paranormal cases are true. There are some paranormal cases that I don't agree with it. I am open minded about stuff like Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, the Chupacabra, ghosts and UFOs. But I am very skepitcal about stuff like Area 51, werewolves, mermaids and demonic possessions.
omg I would s*** t my self if I seen that in long leaf home scared me to death that holy grail of ghost walking down I got goose bump all the way down my back
so fake notice the light is flickering but the light on the floor from the projector as planned and after the shadow removes itself from the picture you can see the the light from the projector
Fake good set up though other videos just like this one all share the same amount of steps taken from the first step in the light on the stairwell to the second shadowline of the stairway on the floor same sound as well 25 steps
0:40 min.: FIGURING OUT WHAT HAPPENED, MAYBE THIS IS IN SLOW MOTION OF THE ALL THE EMOTIONS THAT WENT THROUGH THAT MOMENT ... A GUY WANTING TO KILL ANOTHER BECUASE THE OTHER DISRESPECTED HIS WIFE.... THE SECOND FOOTSTEPS OF WIFE WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS...TERRIBLE ... AND MAYBE THE FIRST FOOTSTEPS THAT ARE WAY HEAVY , IS A PIRATE
...SO SINCE, THE GHOST WAS WALKING DOWNSTAIRS , THE STAIRS WAS THE TRIGGER TO BRING HIM BACK?... SO SAME DIMENTIONS OF STAIRS SAME HEIGHT , SAME PLACE .... AND MORE MYSTERY .... SAME PLANK OF WOOD?
What is it that you are not going to be a bit of the world and a client base that reads like a who's going to be able to make it tonight but will be in touch with the people who are not going well and truly over... 😀😁😂🤣😃😅😅😅😀😁😂🤣😃😄😅

Oh god, somebody call Peter Pan, he lost shadow again.
It’s funny you say that because a few years back they did a show at Halloween where Peter Pan’s shadow is projected around the rooms in the house.
I don't care if this is fake/real, it's crazy creepy and I love showing this to people just to watch their reactions.
Went to longleat today and saw exactly the same thing apart from it coming down the stairs really happy I wasn't seeming things 😊
Is this a hologram affect for show at longleat
"I think I saw a ghost" hahahaha

It's a hologram. If you've ever been to or heard of the place it's one of the main attractions.
Thank You Emperor For Sharing This Beautiful Video Vlog
It's a hologram, the lights are being flickered on and off manually and the camera disruption is satire.
Saw someone else post this as well; knew it wasn't real 'cause the dodgy animation gave it away. XD
+IglooDweller Its real in the fact that its a hologram set up by the staff to scare tourists.
It's not animation, it's a hologram which the staff put up for spooky effect.
Hello To Everyone From North Dakota
I thought the lights weren’t mean to flicker and when I saw it the shadow went upstairs
Guys this is real it happened before with another guy his name on TH-cam is top5s and type up creepiest ghost sightings and the last one is this longleat House one
