In Round 1 Game 1, couldn’t you have flickerwisped the Murktide to remove the counters and make the two trade if they attacked? That would also slow down your clock if the opponent top decked a bolt and they started attacking in. 11:30 into the video
lol. I was reading your old D&T guide on your website and was thinking "I wish cards like these saw more play". Maybe your next list will include Jotun Grunt?
Yeah, seems like a pretty big miss, though it didn't matter in the end Edit: Main comment got edited, it originally mentioned Flickerwisp-ing the Murktide at 11:30
11:31 when playing flickerwisp you probably should've targeted murktide to shrink it instead of just blinking your land which doesn't really do anything.....
11:40 why didn’t you flicker murktide? This plays around potential removal spells. Murktide gets flickered and comes back as a 3/3, which trades with flickerwisp and straight up dies to pro blue from mom, which prevents an attack and does not require you to use mom
I love Mangara so much. My brother had a standard deck during Lorwyn standard that used Mangara with whitemane lion and similar effects to do the same thing. The deck used thousand year elixir to give Mangara effective haste, and it was brutal.
Excited to see you playing some D&T, as ive heard about how youre a big proponent of it, but dont see you play it much. Id love to see more D&T in the near future, including spicier variations that arent ohrzov for bowmasters. Basic land supremacy
@@ThrabenUniversity fair enough. I can't because I'm sadly not in the position to do so, but I am definitely happy to see some D&T from time to time from someone as experienced as you.
I made a commander deck with him as my commander. I use it when I’m feeling particularly mean. I call it Perfect Silence. It normally wins by concession by turn 6-7 because my opponents have no permanents on the board. I generally use it vs land ramp decks
Seems nice to see you enjoying a game after some supper difficult videos hahahaa Have fun my friend!!, its a pleasure to see how much you are liking theses games
42:46 Just FYI a buddy of mine who has a lot of experience on Mono B Helm (I will list his resume below) disagrees strongly on Karn in the deck. I guess using Stoneforge Mystic as a tutor for lionsash would be too slow against reanimator, but it would have been nice if you brought the possibility up.
in the first game he could have just used flickerwhisp to flicker the merktide and make it come back without counters instead of using it on a land for no reason
As an old school astral slide player, it hurt to see you do sorcery speed mangara! In G1M1 you could have been blocking the Swiftspear, then activating and hitting the DRC and Karakas. took like 3 damage you didn't need to =P
I’d argue he is in enough of a winning position that it’s fine to do this. Giving an OPP a draw has a few downside cases. Top decking brazen borrower would let OP save his DRC Top decking bolt would kill mangara In response to karakas bounce trigger Top decking stifle would allow opp to stifle the mangara trigger. Not likely opp has stifle M1G1 tho. There are probably a few more reasons why doing it before opp can draw is better than saving a block. It just depends on how secure you feel taking a few points of poke vs risking losing your mandara or tempo.
Your line is just worse than my line though, as it gives the opponent more opportunities to find interaction to stop my lock. It's not about the damage. It's about a grind of resources.
@@dkv_I can understand your view, however for the sake of argument. Brazen borrower would not save DRC in this situation. Petty theft can only hit opponents cards. Stifle is a genuine concern, but that information wasn’t present g1m1 and isn’t a common addition currently.
@@ThrabenUniversityunsure about “just worse”. That’s a rather strong statement to make to a friendly comment from a fan man. I understand about the resource grind. But having to wait additional turn cycles for activations is arguably a less effective tempo play vs the risk of removal. Plus it opens you to daze at certain points in the transaction.
Man old Legacy talking like 2007- 2013 was an incredible format.
That round two, when you drop Thalia and a second Wasteland against a mana-screwed opponent? Those are the moments D&T exists for. The ones you savor.

Thought the same thing.
@@gregballsy He mentioned it in the deck tech I believe, so I doubt he didn't just not think of it.
Death and Taxes is NOT like riding a bike, if you dont pilot the deck regularly for a while you forget a lot of the key interactions
he does that in the second game of the same round so prob just a quick misplay. Either way he won lol

Unless the metagame is SUPER unhealthy, I'd probably never consider playing Jotun Grunt seriously again.

It's very satisfying watching you get to flex the D&T muscles when the meta (or pairings, at least) lines up. Like. What a clinic.

There's hardly a more frustrating experience in Magic than "This deck is bad and I'm losing to it." Great video though.
“Opponent said some kind words in the chat” hmmmmm…. I doubt that 😂
This deck can almost slot in agatha's soul cauldron in some matchups
I still believe there should be 1 Mangara in Yorion Death and Taxes. It’s already playing multiple Karakas and multiple Recruiter of the Guard.
Happy to see you back on your namesake! And back on your bs 😂
11:34 why not flicker the murk ...?? comes back as a 3/3
give it a week, phils gonna realise that mangara combos with paralax wave

Is there a specific reason for no ephemerate in the list?
60 card lists are tight on slots, and we're already getting cute with Mangara.

Can't you just activate Mangara then give Mangara pro white with Mom to save mangara?
Mangara doesnt target itself
No, Protection only saves a permanent from damage, attaching (enchanting/equipping), targeting, and blocking.
