Andre said that doing this movie was the thing he was most proud of in his whole career. He was great in this and I'm so happy for all the recognition and love he gets for playing Fezzik. RIP Andre.
Mandy Patinkin basically said the same thing - a while after they finished filming it, his wife found him sobbing, asked why, he said "Because I'll never be in a movie that good again." True dat. And he's done plenty of great stuff since, but this, this, is a Classic.
Billy Crystal wrote 'My Giant' specifically with Andre in mind. Unfortunately, Andre passed before the movie was made, so Gheorghe Muresan was cast in the role meant for Andre.
I’ve heard a story that Andre the Giant had an ATV on set and used to just ride it around between takes, offering it to other cast members and staff. Supposedly he called everyone “Boss,” so he’d pull up and go “you want to ride, Boss? It’s fun!” And that incredibly wholesome visual just gives me so much joy.
Inigo is waiting for Vezzinni (sp) because he was told that if the job went wrong (which it did!) to go back to the beginning. Where Inigo is parked is where they got the job, so he figures this is the beginning. He is hoping that Vezzinni will arrive and they'll re-group. Fezzik knows about the six-fingered man because he's on the Brute Squad, which is operated by officials in the palace (including Yellin, who works closely with the Prince); and Fezzik, as we learn, is much more observant and intelligent than he's given credit for being.
No, no, no, that is not the wonderful Mel Brooks but the equally wonderful Peter Falk. If you have not yet gotten to know him in his signature role as Columbo, you owe yourself the treat.
Westly/Man in Black was 'torturing' her, because she was affianced to the Prince. He made that clear, when he asked how long she waited before becoming the Prince's future bride (which wasn't voluntary on her part).
Please recall the viewpoint of this entire movie: it's a grandfather reading a BOOK to his grandson; no pictures or illustrations, so none of the characters are "fleshed out," their identities are constructed by whoever hears the words. Grandson pictures who's who in his brain; same for all the characters in the book relative to each other, too!
No, the grandfather is not Mel Brooks, it’s Peter Falk, most famously known as Lt. Columbo. Just one more thing, he was great in other things such as Murder by Death.
One of my all time favorite movies! ^_^ "I want my father back you son of a bitch!" Best line in the entire movie--and there were SO many fabulous lines! btw, if you like Mel Brooks spoofs, I highly recommend "Spaceballs!" And, if you want to watch another iconic 80's movie, you might enjoy "Crocodile Dundee."
@@AdamfromFWCI 🤣 Ah! Wasn't sure if you were old enough to have seen those movies! (I remember when the original was released!) And I didn't want to assume that you'd seen them just because you are Aussie. 😉 Okay, then... How about "Big Trouble In Little China?" Or "Tremors?"
If this movie made its way into your heart, may I recommend for your further enjoyment a book (authored by Cary Elwes/Westley/The Man in Black/The Dread Pirate Roberts) titled "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride." All kinds of behind-the-scenes true tales of intrigue, failure, pain, success, cuisine, and fun -- above all else FUN according to the players.
This book has been suggested a bunch of times lol, I watched some of his interviews when he was promoting the book (i think), and it was amazing to hear his recount of being on set. I might check it out once I finish The Disaster Artist
@@AdamfromFWCI I’m watching and commenting months later. I hope you read the book! There are some great stories about Andre the Giant. The audiobook is wonderful. Cary Elwes reads it himself and some of the cast participated.
sigh... this is how you know you're getting old... when someone doesn't recognize any of the actors you grew up with lol. then i check what else you reacted to and i've never even heard of these tv shows lol. rip. good reaction though :)

The Mandy Potinkhn sub-plot the best part of this fairy tale. The other scenes are all from British comedy TV. Not impressive in a feature film.

The Clergyman was played by Peter Cook.

This was Robin Wright's first movie role.
One of my favorite movies ever!
"Seems a bit flirtatious" The inherent erotisisim of dueling
Trying to stick something long and hard into each other...
During the 1960s there was a Brisih singer, about as opular as Tom Jones, named Englebert Humperdinck.
I love how well this spoofs or plays as a fairytale. Plus Peter Falk and the grandson play off each other so well!

Hence the reupload for those who are wondering
"Grandpa" is Peter Falk. See "Columbo".
People seem to forget she has not seen him for 5 years. If you have not seen someone for that long you remember them but I feel you can’t be exact.

Also, all he ever really says to her is "As you wish."
The religious guy is Peter Cook.
"Buttercup" is a FLOWER.

I watched it all the way through with you, and smiled the whole way! Maybe the 12,943th time I've watched it! hehe
Simply one of the best - and most quotable - movies ever.
After all, you can’t expect to be a truly great pirate if you just go around using the same wind that everyone else uses.
The torturers apprentice known as The Albino was Mel Smith a British comedian.
Mandy, who plays indigo, says his favourite lines were about revenge. The fact he'd been in the revenge game so long he didn't know what to do next.
One thing to remember when calling this a kids move, PG was for 13yos, and not G that for kids of any age.

I have seen that many times, didnt recognise Wesley at all lol
He did not like that she was engaged even though it’s been 5 years.
The title makes it sound like a girly film but it's really not.

They have a holocaust cloak: it sets on fire.
When Rugen hit Westly I n the head, it was real...too real. The actor playing Westly got a concussion, and had an overnight hospital stay.
