COVID was a huge trauma to most people. Her need to buy and hoard food was shared by many, most not having the courage to show it in this way. Her urge was prompted by a desire to keep her family safe and fed. To save money, by getting things on sale for a future date, it just got out of control. I'm happy that she's taking steps to get her house and life back under control so she can enjoy herself and her home. Kudos for Carla for helping in this way !!! Best wishes
I remember my sweet aunt making masks for the whole family, way more than needed. She's a good person and wanted to keep us all safe and herself occupied.
Every time your sister said ‘what a shame’, when she realized the amount of expired and wasted food, I believe was a moment closer to her resolving to not let this happen again.
Dear friend, it’s certainly not a “shame”. There is no shame in being overwhelmed. Think about the trauma that led to this really difficult time. She is so very vulnerable and strong. Good work guys in having the strength to look at the situation. You are both amazing!
It's so nice when all the people who live in the house participate, instead of just one person slogging through everything. Also, love how realistic this is: sitting down and taking a three-hour break, getting frustrated with each other, getting overwhelmed, being tired at the end, all the emotions that comes up from seeing your stuff and all the plans that never were. I'm looking forward to the day your sister is free from all of this.
That was the perfect comment for how one or many feel when doing such a overwhelming declutter. Spot on! ETA: especially “all the plans that never were.”
Thanks! Yeah, you're not just letting go of stuff, you're letting go of ideas of who you thought you were, and embracing who you really are. Decluttering really forces you to be honest with yourself.@@ds7675
Your sister’s willingness to be vulnerable is exceedingly brave and is no doubt helping so many. Samson definitely gets kudos for his part in this video even thought he ate mystery bits.
Someone in our area was doing an EXTREME "No Buy" year and she was open to taking slightly outdated foods. SO many people offered their newly decluttered food items and she posted ALL the meals she created with those foods. It made everyone feel great to 'give' to her and she had a much easier Extreme no buy year!
What a lovely idea. I'm happy that someone was willing to take it instead of it going to the landfill. This especially since not all expired food is actually bad. Some are simply best by dates. I watch so many decluttering videos & to see how much food is thrown out is saddening due to people over buying.
I hope your sister understands just how much she has helped those of us in her same circumstance. We appreciate her vulnerability and courage to show her home.
I can tell the letting go of items is getting easier for Sister. She is a rockstar! Carla, you did great redirecting Sister when she started getting overwhelmed. You are a rockstar too!
I was raised by hoarders to be a hoarder. I've been on my own 5 year declutter journey so I completely understand the overwhelm. Your sister is doing a great job! It's a big step for her to allow you to declutter without her there! Great job! Remind her to be kind to herself through this process. It took years to get to this place so it'll definitely take some time to work through the stuff.
Your sister is truly amazing and has come a very long way. She should be so darn proud of herself. She is an example for all of us to do better with our stuff amd spending decisions going into inflation.
Your sister is so brave to admit she needed help and allow it to be filmed. She will inspire others who have a similar situation. You are so inspiring and a lovely sister to help xx
I laughed so hard about the eye drops! “I’ll use some right now….oh never mind. It’s brown” Carla: “oh it’s not supposed to be brown?” You two are cute.
I'm glad you showed everyone getting a bit tired and frustrated - I'm sure a lot of people can relate. Amazing that you reclaimed a whole (good sized) room.
I love your comment. I was surprised by how spacious the room is. It’s as if they had an extra (large) bedroom built on, and it cost nothing but time and energy.
I'm impressed and inspired by your level of calmness throughout this video. Personally, I get very triggered by huge levels of clutter within my own family. So thank you for being a reminder that it can be done!
Your sister is so good about admitting something needs to go. For her to have compulsively bought all those things and now wanting to be minimalistic-ish is amazing. You all are so patient and kind to each other even when you are hot and tired. Good family!!
Growing up poor and needing to leverage money when you have it absolutely made me buy on sale and stock up on items, and even feel the need to buy things on sale even if they aren't my favorite or preferred. I'm still struggling to combat that impulse but it takes time and it's hard. So proud of your sister for tackling this massive decluttering!
So impressive all the work you all are putting in! These videos really show the psychological impacts that the pandemic had on so many people - I hope your sister knows she’s not the only one who found themselves gathering and gathering and gathering food and other things in order to feel secure in insecure times.
This is my thought exactly! The pandemic was traumatic for most of us, and we all dealt with it in different ways. Buying a lot of food isn’t even close to the worst ways! ❤️🙏🏻❤️
Seeing the empty store shelves during Covid had profound traumatic effects on so many people. I do not know anyone untouched by this. How beautiful that Carla is supporting her sister through this. Lots of us wish for a Carla in our lives 🥹
Your sister is incredibly brave for sharing this . To open yourself up to the internet takes courage. I love how committed she is to this process. As a minimalist I am watching and cheering her on …she can do this ❤❤❤
I was cleaning my closet rearranging and updating when you popped into my head I thought oh a video today. It's so weird it's like we're complete strangers but I feel like when your video posts I got a call from a friend. A testament to how effective your videos are.
Dear Carla, it's so great your sister lets us be part of her journey💜. My husband and I also got caught up in the hoarding frenzy for a while. We are from Germany and during the pandemic was the first time since the war that some things were actually not available. Sure our grandparents told us about the shortages they faced but to see empty shelves in the supermarket with your own eyes... I think that caused a lot of fear in a lot of people. I'm glad my husband and I realised what was happening to us, we agreed on some rules and now we're down to a normal level of stuff again. But it also gave me some insight into how my grandparents and parents feel (mostly subconsciously I think) and why it's so hard to get them to throw stuff away. If the world around you feels so unsure, you just want to hang onto things to make you feel safe and prepared. Well, we are really looking forward to another video of you and your lovely Family. And especially Samson of course🐾💜
Your sister is a rock star! She’s brave for letting all of us inside her home, and for making the hard decisions. Most of us either have our own junk rooms (or storage building) or know and love someone that does, and it’s so easy to get to the point that your sister was at. Thank you both for sharing this experience. I’ve enjoyed all of the videos of you two working together and love seeing the progress. Please give Samson a big smooch from this dog lover.
No one should be judging your sister. We all have to much of something. I love seeing you and your sister working together. I hope your sister doesn’t get discouraged. I know she is trying her best not only for herself but her family.😊❤
This series shoud be a tv programme. Your sister is a truly inspiring human, and i hope more ppl struggling see this. She’s taking full accountability and now faces the action from the concequenses head on like a freakin queen.
Your sister is a BOSS, and you are a MASTER declutterer!! I have loved this series. It's so satisfying to see what you all have accomplished. Rock on, girl! ❤
Do you remember when Carla was struggle bussing the most basic decluttering decisions in her house? Now she's a decluttering baddie, and able to help others, too!
I’m always amazed at how fast you are able to go through a room. My room has a lot in it but not this much, and I am always overwhelmed at just the thought of dealing with it.
Carla: *whistles* Someone: oh she's here! 😂😂😂 I just died from laughter 😂😂😂 Thanks to you and your sis for being so real. Decluttering is indeed a JOURNEY and I admire bravery of your sis cause it def takes GUTS to show your vulnerability. Take care you wonderful ladies and good luck on your journey, lots of love ❤❤❤
What helped me stop buying so much, was to stop going to the stores. I make a list and only shop for what is on the list. I shop every two weeks at the grocery store. It has really helped with the budget and gathering unnecessary items. These have been very helpful and awesome videos. So real and true to what houses really look like in the real world. Great job.
Like your sister, I started hoarding food and other supplies during the last few years, and I'm now having to go through it all. And, like your sister, a lot of stuff has expired. It hurts to think about the waste, but hopefully I will learn from this experience. It's brave of her to share and loving of you to help her deal with the clutter! Big hugs to both of you! ETA: The expiration date is usually just a guideline and most foods are still perfectly fine even long after. I gave the food bank that wasn't expired (food banks will not accept anything expired), and gave away the rest to friends, family, and neighbours. If I had had anything left at the point, I would've posted on Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone was interested.
Most food is not expired. Those are best by dates. Please give it to someone instead of throwing it away. People are going hungry all over our country.
@@pinschrunner Good point! I will update my comment as to how I got rid of the food. I donated the food that wasn't technically expired (food banks will not accept anything expired), and gave away the rest to friends, family, and neighbours. If I had had anything left at the point, I would've posted on Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone was interested.
I love this series. I could be in your sisters friend/co-worker group because I identify with her thought process with the food prepper stuff listening to TH-cam 😄 and even the projects that never followed thru. It's not just your sister, but the whole household needs to stay on board to keep every item in their "homes" so you know where everything goes to find them later. Much respect to your sister for allowing us to watch the process, very inspiring!
So much respect for the two of you. My father is a hoarder, he hoards appliances, dvd players and frozen food. Broken furniture is kept to be repared, but he never does it. Me and my siblings want to help, but we have no idea where to start. He sees value in everything...
Carla I do not have a hoarding issue in my home yet I still benefited from this series of videos. So thankful to your sister for her willingness to document her journey. I’m so proud of her and much props to your efforts helping her.
These videos are so real life. It is great that your Sister acknowledges she has a problem with throwing out food, yet is able to pass along the decision making to you so that you two can continue with the de-cluttering. It is also nice to see the next generation getting involved in the process. I think, though, Samson was ready to go home after the break ….
For the food surplus, your sister should keep a section of all things expiring in the next year or 6 months and challenge herself to use for meal planning 2024! Awesome work!!
Carla, it is so inspiring to watch you jump straight into someones clutter without judging them. You are an amazing person! Your friends and family are blessed to have you in their lives!
Your sister has such a sweet demeanor. She and I have the same goal. I want to be a minimalist too, and that’s how I found your channel in the first place. My goal is a no buy year for 2024. Your channel inspires a lot of people to live a more minimal lifestyle. I love that it’s realistic and not picture perfect. It makes it very relatable for the rest of us.
I think you can tell a lot about the anxieties and wants a person is dealing with from their hoard...so much of what your sister has revolves around the themes of wellness and survival, of not wanting to waste anything, and she also seems to have a lot of curiosity new things. Obviously hoarding is a maladaptive way to deal with those impulses, but those are all good impulses. I hope that as she lets go of all the junk, it gives her space to focus on those things in healthier ways.
Very insightful. I never thought about it that way, but yes, all the things she saves are wellness items, food, supplements, exercise equipment and gadgets that will be magic. I have a relative who is a hoarder but what she saves is sentimental items, or things she perceives is sentimental when a lot of other people wouldn’t. If her friend from elementary school 60 years ago scribbled a little picture for her, she saves it.
We've all seen those videos where people get treated badly by family members as they are getting rid of things. This is a much better idea . . two sisters looking at one item at a time and deciding where it goes. There IS no other way. Great channel!!!
These are my favorite videos! The family love outshines any frustrations, squabbles, disagreements, tiredness. This is exactly how my brother and I are when our mom gives us a task to complete together. Putting up, and then taking down, the Christmas decorations is a prime example. I hope to see more of this wonderful sibling dynamic.
The hardest part is getting started! Your sister is doing a great job and keeping an open mind and able to admit where she went wrong, which not a lot of people are able to do. She is doing a great job, especially considering how vulnerable it is letting the world into your home. You got this girl!! Rootin’ for you both, keep going ❤❤❤❤
Your sister is the sweetest person and very brave for sharing her home and the condition of it on TH-cam for everyone to see. She is doing amazing on her journey to change her habits and make her house a comfortable inviting home. She is truly blessed to have you for a sister!! ❤❤
"...have to make a decision about every item..." Such a reminder that since it is much work to declutter, it's best to REALLY think hard before bringing an item into the house. I'm just starting to do that--it's like a weak muscle that needs to be strengthened.
If you want to keep a large amount of shelf stable food, it needs to be extremely organized, dated to notice, and the oldest pulled forward. Needless to say, you must consistently pull from it to actually use. It is a part time job managing it. Date the items as you bring them into the house and put them away correctly immediately. Otherwise, don’t prep as much.
I think we all buy extra thinking we will use it at some point. When it comes to food expiration date, "best by" doesn't mean you have to immediately throw it out. Like soup, it won't kill you if it is several years old. The quality is less. "Use by" you should dispose. I've bought expensive candy/snack bags at Costco only to find I didn't like how it tasted. Stared at it a long time before I could throw it out! I am embarrassed to say that I found baking soda from 1994 and canned unsweetened milk from 2013 in my pantry. Totally understand sis's frustration with going through the food.
Your sister is getting there, she’ll do it. She’s a lot further forward than most hoarders as she’s identified why she’s been hoarding and what happens when you store too much ..... and, importantly, has asked for help to remove most of it Well done all of you
It brings tears to my eyes seeing how much you love your sister, so much so by putting in hours, days to help her clear out / organize every single item in every single room, nook and cranny. ❤
Your sister is a gem. Bless her for opening her doors to have you help her and expose her vulnerable. We all have a room or rooms where we hoard, and it's to see that we're not alone😊.
I hope your sister has a big house because I love watching the two of you together and I don’t want it to end! You both are a lot of fun! Tell your niece to roll up her sleeves and join in on the fun. One day these will be cherished memories for her spending time with her grandma and auntie laughing and enjoying each others company ❤
I love the declutter series on your sister's house. And I can't wait for the next episode. When it finally ends, I know I will be really sad and rewatch it all again.😂🥰
🧡🩶🤍🫶🏽Carla, You are an absolute blessing! Both you and your Sis work SO WELL together. I enjoy the sound of your combined laughter in between the overwhelming moments. I’ll say this again… It helps tremendously that your sister is in a good space for “letting go”. I admire you both. God bless, and Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family and all of your subscribers. 🧡🩶🤍🫶🏽
California may not allow it, but most canned goods (not tomato based) even if expired, will be accepted by food banks. Most canned goods last years beyond their expiration date. We were moving and donated 90% of our food pantry and our local food bank was very happy to accept our food which included some cans that were expired. I had the 8, 10, 12-packs of canned veggies and since some were expired, I opened some of them to see if they were good before I asked if I could donate them and, of course, they were fine. I asked them, and they said “no worries and thank you. We’re more than happy to take them because we know they’re fine and there’s such a need for donations.” Just thought I’d share that for others that might want to donate food for whatever reason. Good job, Carla’s Sister! It takes courage to see a need to change something in your life and have the courage to execute that change! And what a blessing to have a sister there to help!
Thank you to your beautiful sister and you for inviting us into her home and letting us share this journey with you. You’re both an inspiration! Bless you both 🙏🏽❤️
Kudos to your sister for addressing her hoarding. You can do this. I love to see two sisters working together. You obviously get along well and love each other.
Your sister is an absolute star, allowing us into these rooms. I have nothing but applause for her, that she is tackling this head on with your help and guidance.
I was 35 weeks pregnant when the covid lockdown started in the US and having a very well-stocked pantry was the only thing that helped my anxiety. I bought a giant thing of coconut oil for my skin and I finally threw it out this past summer. I'd only used like 1/3 of it, but it must've gone bad and it was causing my skin to get a bacterial infection. I'm a natural minimalist, but the way that coconut oil had become a symbol of Being Prepared for me was still tough to break. Your sister is brave and strong and she is building even more resiliency as she works to simplify her space. Kudos to her!
You and your sister are so patient and kind, in spite of the challenge of culling through so many rooms filled to the brim. Congratulations to both of you for accomplishing so much!
Mrs.Q here, I absolutely love that you are helping your sister declutter her home! I would love to work beside my sister like this. We could both use the help in our homes. However, we live 1600 miles away from each other, I'm in CA and she is in NE, so it isn't possible. Cherish the time together! I'm excited to see how your sister's house continues to be transformed into the home she desires and deserves. Blessings to you both!
You both are amazing. We all get in over our heads sometimes, it's how we get out that shows our character. I really appreciate that you are doing this with love and kindness, but also not skirting around the hard facts. Inherited hoarder behavior is so real. Love to your sister!
I really think those prepper people online have a lot to answer for. They make so much money from stirring up panic in people, it's not right :( you guys are doing a fantastic job with the house, its so impressive!
I love your sister! Her whole attitude has changed about decluttering. Hey sister, I was just like you, with my prepper pantry and it hurt my heart a few months ago to throw out so much expired food. I’ve stopped that extreme prepping (and watching all those TH-cam videos…lol) but I do it on a smaller scale now. There’s no way I’m NOT going to have extra toilet tissue, extra water and a few extra tubes of toothpaste or bars of soap. Hello 2020! I have a small shelf with canned goods and that’s it. I’m not perfect because there’s more to declutter but watching you makes me get up, set the timer and declutter for 10 min. Keep up the good work. I’m loving this series!
Your sister is so brave for sharing all of this. I just wanted to comment that she might enjoy the Hoarder's Heart TH-cam channel. Since you mentioned that hoarding might run in your family (it runs in mine too), I'd gently recommend your sister possibly seek counseling to assist her in this journey. She's doing so well, this is not a judgment at all! Again, soooo brave for being public. She'll never know how many people she's helping. 💕

I agree ❤
Carla, your sister is definitely not the only one. Allowing us in her space is for the benefit of us all. Thank you so much.
Big agree 😊❤

@christinevalentine3373 the expression "such a shame" does NOT mean literally feeling shame, it's more like such a waste.

I was jonesing for another sister declutter video, and here it is!!! Yay
Me too
Your sister is to be commended. Not only did she ask for help, she was aware of what needed to be changed and was happy to make the changes needed.

He sees value in everything...
ave you watched A hoarder´s heart? I have learned so much about attachment to things from watching her videos.
Carla I do not have a hoarding issue in my home yet I still benefited from this series of videos. So thankful to your sister for her willingness to document her journey. I’m so proud of her and much props to your efforts helping her.
Samson is a great supervisor. When he first came into the room, he might of thinking been thinking here we go again! Amazing results.
I look forward to these videos. Your sister has such a good attitude about getting rid of things and you are so patient and loving towards her.
For the food surplus, your sister should keep a section of all things expiring in the next year or 6 months and challenge herself to use for meal planning 2024! Awesome work!!
You are so patient and kind! I love how you stay on task.
Your sister is a darling, I can’t wait for her to live in her peaceful space
You are so sweet to help your sister. I can see how badly she wants to do this. The two of you are doing a great job.
I can’t wait to see their space serving them better as a family. Your sister is so sweet. ❤
This video is about sisters and family members who have a great, exemplary relationship.
The decluttering is also very is well done, kudos!
Your sister is getting there, she’ll do it. She’s a lot further forward than most hoarders as she’s identified why she’s been hoarding and what happens when you store too much ..... and, importantly, has asked for help to remove most of it
Well done all of you
You are both facing this with grace and humor. One project at a time. So much work but I see the progress as do others.
It brings tears to my eyes seeing how much you love your sister, so much so by putting in hours, days to help her clear out / organize every single item in every single room, nook and cranny. ❤
I wasn’t expecting another pantry overstock room. 😮 That was very overwhelming.
You're a blessing to your sister. She will feel so much lighter, less stress.
I am so proud of your sister. You can see how overwhelming this is for her. Keep it up, you got this! ❤
Your sister is a gem. Bless her for opening her doors to have you help her and expose her vulnerable. We all have a room or rooms where we hoard, and it's to see that we're not alone😊.
You both did an awesome job! I love how you allow your sister to make her own decisions…she seems even more empowered with every video ❤
Im so proud of your sister! She is working so hard to get her house back! ❤
It’s so good that she’s willing to do it. That’s the good part some people don’t wanna get rid of nothing.❤
I am so impressed by the progress you guys are making!! How exciting for her to have her home back!
Ladies, youve worked so hard! Have a coffee or a cocktail on me. Great work 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you AGAIN Kerry!!!❤️😍🥰We will make sure to enjoy fancy drinks thanks to you next visit 🥂 ☕️ 💝✨🥳
@@TheCarlaProject tipsy decluttering... the best kind 😉
I love how your sister is so focused 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
It’s so much easier to watch you guys work than do my own😩🤗🤩
You can do it!!! 😆

Please pass on my love and gratitude, to your sister, for including us on her journey. She is an inspiration!!
I love how you chunk it down into achievable steps. We all have too much stuff! Your sisters hoard is relatable!!!
Expired foods isn't always bad. It's mostly a suggested use by date. Those sauces were perfectly fine to use.
Your sister is so ready to have her house back and you are leading the way so well for her.
So proud of your sister and family. It takes a lot of courage to start a declutter.
I really think those prepper people online have a lot to answer for. They make so much money from stirring up panic in people, it's not right :( you guys are doing a fantastic job with the house, its so impressive!
Great video. I love the cluttering with your sister series. So nice of you to help her out.
Your sister Carla is lovely. And you are a good sister and friend for helping. God bless you both.
Way to go!! So much better and so much work. You are amazing and I love your sister too. She’s come so far!🎉
Good for you! Amazing! I find it funny that the clock showed the wrong time too 😂 in the busy room
You two made amazing progress in that room in such a short amount of time!
