    Yaaay, my hometown ❤
I feel very Swedish, but also close to Denmark. I grew up with Danish tv channels so I can understand the language fairly well. Also, it is tradition to take the ferry to Helsingör or just to stay onboard going back and forth for what is known as a "tura".
Helsingborg would be perfect to combine with a visit to Denmark, but also Malmö and the very old city of Lund. Lund is a university town with a lot of history. You could also check out all of the amazing nature reserves around Skåne. Welcome!

Kinda expected Southern Swedes to be more patriotic (a la the newly converted) than those in Uppsala or Stockholm where they're surrounded by 'their own' as such. Probably wrong but as I say, just an expectation. More likely to need to defend their lands than those up North or at least be able to shoot at the Danes across the sund lol but those with an inclination towards and willingness to - fight for the land. Many mainland Danes will jokingly suggest we give Sjælland to Sweden, like Copenhagen is our dirty little secret. My Dad always referred to it as 'Djælveøen' lol. Bamse & Kylling - a trip is about right lol Good times. Mvh fra DK

Helsingborg and Helsingør (Elsinore of Hamlet fame) were so intertwined during the Denmark years, they had joint town square markets and city councils in the medieval ages.

Helsingborg is also known for its many restaurants, with great variety. The city is really alive, people are out socialising both during winter-and summertime. It’s easy to go by train from Malmö, takes about 50 minutes. Then you can continue up along the west coast, Halmstad, Varberg and Gothenburg. It takes about 2 1/2 hrs from Helsingborg to Gothenburg. You can see how nature changes, from very flat in Skåne to a more rocky coastline further up to Gbg. It’s also very beatiful north of Gothenburg, in Smögen, Fjällbacka and Strömstad.

Traveling around Sweden is pretty easy but expensive, we have a vast train network with national and regional lines making you able to reach even the most remote places.
I suggest you do multiple trips if you want the extent of it, for example two weeks in southern Sweden/Götaland, a week in Stockholm and it's surroundings, a week in Bergslagen/Svealand and two/three weeks in northern Sweden.
Thank you for your videos on Sweden, it's really nice to get an outsider's perspective!

@@OfficialFno You can´t really call Helsingborg "the real Sweden". The provinces of Halland, Blekinge and Skåne (Helsingborg is in Skåne) was conquered from Denmark in 1658. After this conquest, it was a long and hard conflict between swedish army and a partisan movement called "snapphanar", who fought the new swedish rule. This conflict lasted for centuries, before the last "snapphane" was killed. Still to this day, many in Skåne want to go back to Denmark. I have a neighbour who use to call everybody from Skåne as "foreigners". "Real" Sweden is those provinces that belonged to Sweden before 1658. My step son used to live in a small town (Tomelilla) in Skåne for years. According to him, the town was divided in two categories: Genuine "skånings" and people from other parts of Sweden, people who had moved to Tomelilla. There was hardly any interaction between these two categories in Tomelilla. One of the few exceptions was my sons nearest neighbor, a "skåning" married with a woman from Russia. For this "death sin" other "skånings" kepts a certain distance to him. If you, as an african-american or african-british or whatever you are, feel that there is a certain racism in Sweden, I can comfort you: It´s not really about pigmentation. It´s about being a "newcomer". In 1972, newly arrived in Gothenburg, I was often reminded by neighbors and workmates that a wasn´t a "real" gothenburger. Sweden is not really that nice as you picture it.

There is a reason Helsingborg is a populer place to visit even for Swedes. People are constantly moving here too. It's one of the best places in Skåne County. Lots to see and do. If Helsingborg and Malmö is on your list. You can visit them both pretty easy. Since it's just a 35min train ride between them. And if you are in Helsingborg, from there you can take a short buss ride to Ödåkra which has Väla which used to be the biggest shopping center in scandinavia or even the nordic. And right next to it you have a real Swedish IKEA. And also if you are in Helsingborg you can visit Denmark and be back the same day. Helsingborg is a good starting place to experience alot of things.

How lovely to start my day with Dwayne viewing Helsingborg! We visited there last summer after finding unknown relatives and it is a very nice little town. We did not have time to explore much on that travel but upcoming Saturday we are going the 1200 km down south to visit again. This time we will go and see Fredriksdal and Sofiero and spend more time in Helsingör. Big towns are not always the best option, I vote for the small ones!
I would do 3-4 trips to Sweden if I was a tourist and you live in UK, close enough for that. One week for the westcoast, one week for Stockholm/Uppsala and then go north. Up here it is more of outside activities (gosh, how do you bend that word correctly?!) like hiking or go by bicycle in the mountains, rafting in the rives and exploring sami culture. Very nice in summer but as an Englishman winter probably would be a blast with skiing, going up the mountains with a snowmobile and see the northern lights. So...4 trips, at least!

Fårö is the place where many of his films were filmed and the island Ingmar lived on for 40 years, until his death. Also where he is buried.

And so close to Denmark (we also used to spend time in Helsingør and København. I’ve always understood danish, comparatively, well (and I lived in Helsingborg for a year, as a toddler (formative language learning year) so that might have a little something to do with it). the reason Helsingborg sounds like Helsingør sounds the same is because it's named by Danes, the area of Blekinge, Halland and Skåne (Southern Sweden where Helsingborg, Gotheborg , Malmø , Lund and more) was Danish, it was actually where the Danes first settled way before they settled modern day Denmark , the area was lost to Sweden in one of many wars, it is weird to say the real Sweden is the part that was Danish for most of history , for me as a Dane I think real Sweden is the center and north, it's the forest and Islands ect. not that I don't see Southern Sweden as Swedish but it's not the "most" Swedish when you look at the entire country, Sweden is actually a big country

The Øre- / Öre-sound /-sund is very narrow ( 3 -4 miles or so ) at its "mouth" between Helsingør (DK) and Hälsingborg (Swe.), which was also part of Denmark until c. 360 years ago.
The names refer to this narrowness, since "hals" means "neck" + "throat" ( a full neck ) in both Danish & Swedish ~ Old English "he'als" !
The Danish king used to have castles on both sides of the sound with big cannons, which allowed him to demand customs from all ships sailing into or out of the Baltic Sea ( South & East of Denmark ).

But its a bold statement to say real Sweden, and I wont say yes or no - but all I can say it's an amazing town with alot for everyone, anyone - a good mix of culture and close ties to Denmark.
Can't speak for other cities but I know we have alot of cultural funds put up by private persons just dedicated to keep our parks forever alive and with a cultural artistic twist, subtle of more noticable. Everything that has to do with Nature is always kept at high focus and its a fine line to walk with architecture, new versus modern. And Helsingborg (atleast what I heard a few years ago) was mentioned as one prime example as one to keep a good balance between restoring old houses, even traditional old apartments up to standards or to modernize it.

Jeez... don't overdo it, a vacation is a time for relaxation as well as an opportunity to see new places and meet new people.
If I were to spend some days in Gothenburg, my - very loosely planned schedule - might look something like this:
Ride a tram from Gamlestan in the east to Näset in the far west and maybe follow along with a GPS navigation app. Hop off when you see something interesting and then get on the next tram or the one after that and go on.
Take a half-day tour with MS/Carl-Michael Bellman around Hisingen, Sweden's fifth largest island. Go north along the coast and then east and south on the Göta river back to Gothenburg (everything is guided in English and you can have fika or eat on board) .
If the weather permits, maybe bring a picnic basket, sunbathe and swim in "Pöl Harbour" (outdoor sea bath in the middle of the old shipyard area in central Gothenburg ["Puddle Harbour" - typical Gothenburg humor - Pearl Harbor is pronounced like written in the Gothenburg dialect. The tall building across the river with a cerise top is correspondingly called "the lipstick" and the newly built skyscraper a short distance away has been named "the fly" because of the zipper-like facade].
Visit Universeum - a very odd and different destination - everything from sharks and rainforest to a science workshop in a large building, also in the middle of town right next to northern Europe's largest amusement park Liseberg.
Use the excellent public transportion or walk, Gothenburg is not that big.

His pronunciation isn't that bad actually.
Yes Skåne (and Blekinge) are called Reserve Denmark, Skåne is also called The Morocco of Sweden.
(I may make fun of the Skåne-people since I live there myself).
My trip advice would be to concentrate on one city and not travel around too much, I learned that lesson pretty fast when travelling around the UK, Ireland, and France as a youngster, IF you travel around, a tip is to use night trains and sleep there instead of in a hotel/hostel, I know of people who went to London and parts of Scotland and didn't spend a penny on accomodation...

If you ask the rest of Sweden I’m pretty sure they will say that here in ”Skåne” we all talk with a Danish accent. Our ’r’ sound is different, it’s a gutteral sound, from the throat and not the rolling sound from the tip of your tounge. We southerners share our gutteral sound with other north west Europe such as Danmark, Germany and France.

I'm from Stockholm and I love Helsingborg. A beautiful little town. There are many small nice resorts along the coast all the way up to Norway. Whatever you do, come here during the summer (!!!) preferably June. Then it's bright, reasonably warm, lots of flowers and Sweden has lots of nature everywhere. I don't think Malmö is that much fun, but totally ok. If I visit Jönköping, I would not miss Gränna (north of Jönköping), a small village with a lot of tradition. I also think you should visit Dalarna (the area around Siljan) Öland and of course Stockholm, but don't miss the archipelago outside. It is spectacular and completely unique in its kind. If you like nature, then there is a lot to love in Sweden. It is easy to travel by train within Sweden.

    4 cities?
If you come in the summer:
Ranked in order from a tuirist perspective I would go:
    *_1) Visby_*
    *_2) Stockholm_*
    *_3) Falkenberg_*
    *_4) Karlskrona/Helsinborg/Göteborg._*
The last three is interchangable, which one comes out on top depends on what youre looking for.
    *_Visby:_*
One of Swedens oldest cities located on the island Gottland in the Baltic sea east of Swedens main land.
Strongly associated with Vikings and mediaval times, the architeture and nature fit the part as well.
I THINK Gottland has the highest number of genuine Viking Rune Stones in the country.
I *_could_* be wrong on that, but I THINK thats the case.
The entire town is surrounded by a legit mediavel castle wall and the houses inside are generally really small and the walls are not straight or even as the houses were built before tools that would allow you to make perfect angles.
Ive been there twice and its one of the most magical places Ive ever been.
It literally feels like stepping in to Astrid Lindgrens "The Lionheart Brothers".
EVERYTHING in Visby is a landmark or a curltural heritage or a historical building etc etc.
I was there for two weeks straight and I felt like I didnt have time to see half the stuff I wanted.
Visby is the *_undisputed_* no1 in my rcommendations.
    _*Stockholm:*
Its the Capital of Sweden, obviously it would be a top ranking destination for toursim.
Aside from that, Stockholm is *_absolutely stunning,_* probably THE most beautiful city Ive ever seen, aesteticahlly speaking.
Its sometimes called "The Venice of the North" due to its large bodies of water deviding the city into different areas.
(I think Stockholm is built on 13 islands, I could be wrong on this but its the number ringing in my head)
Stockholm, naturally has alot of shopping and tourists districts, primarily in Gamla Stan (Old Town) and the Architecture there is absolutely stunning and fascinating.
There are of course castles and alot of other cultural heritage sites and a smaller amusement park kalled Gröna Lund, it pales in comparison to Liseberg but its gets the job done and the view from the rides is way better as its locatd right down by the water.
You also have "Globen", or as its called now, Avicii Arena, but you already knew that.
    *_Falkenberg:_*
A small beach town on west coast Sweden.
Fantstic beach, the most beaituful nature you'll find in Europe, alot of wonderful hiking trails, rivers where you can fish or go kajaking, beautiful architecture and really good restaurants.
Idyllic is probably the best word to sum it up.
Its also one of Swedens bigger cities in respect to area even tho the population is so low.
This results in seemingly infinite meadows, fields and forests if you travel as much as 5 minutes outside the city center.
Falkenberg also hosts alot of festivals, fairs and carnivals during the summers.
Most notable would probabnly be "Way OuT West" which is basically "Spring Break" but only for like 3 days and "Wheels and Wings" which is the biggest morot meet in Sweden.
Mostly its American Muscle cars and 50s style cloathing but its not limited to that.
Falkenberg also has one of Swedens best vacation hotels, Strandbaden which is ALOT of luxury for comparatively low price, located right on the several miles long fine grained sandy beach.
And of course, the worlds latgest shopping mall is located in Falkenberg.
    Its called "GeKås".
For refference, the second lagests in the world is a Walmart thats 0.6 of GeKås size
    *_Göteborg:_*
Swedens second largest city, it has alot of shopping and, whats probably THE heaviest argument,_*Liseberg,*_ named Europes most beautiful amusment park.
Besides Sweden Ive only een been to Tivoli in Denmark so I cant vouch for this title but I dont doubt it, its like walking into a fairy tale, not constructed but the geography itself looks like something youd imagine from H.C Andersen or the Grimm brothers landscapes.
    *_Helsingborg:_*
Has alot of historical landmarks in the vicinity, there are castles and alot of cool architecture and there is the shuttle boats over to Denmark.
You can easily go over, shopp around for an hour or two and go back to Sweden and you would still have time left in the day to go site seeing.
Its basically getting to visit an extra country for free.
Helsingborg is also a very beautiful city.
    *_Karlskrona:_*
Also known as "The City of Winds" due to almost being located on _two_ coasts without anything shielding it from the gales coming in from the sea.
Its a Military city and has alot of interesting historical artifacts, museums and its also a sailors city so there is alot of really good pubs (Highly recommend "The Fox and the Anchor" if you find yourself In Karlskrona)
Its significantly smaller than Helsingborg and Göteborg which gives it that cozy small town feeling.
Alot of streets made of cobbled stone.
Its kind of the same feeling you get from walking in Visby, only its about 3& of the full effect.

Helsingborg is in Scania, so in other words, not the real Sweden since Scania has been part of Denmark longer than Sweden. xD
I jest... Helsingborg is just as much the "real" Sweden as the other Sweden. xD Cross the water is Helsingör which is part of Denmark.
Also, if you're thinking about Malmö, you could just stop by Helsinborg on the way to Malmö by train from Gothenburg probably. :)

Sweden really don´t exist as a country. its more of a nordic mish mash. Most settlement are much older than both Denmark and Sweden. And swedens borders change quite a lot. The place where i come from have been continuously seatled since the stone age. The country of Skåneland (that no longer exist.. sort of) is several hundred years older than Sweden, and a full millennia older than "modern Sweden"

In fairness, as far as I recall Alfred the Great had been King in England before the Swedes were actually in control of that part of Sweden, it's where the Danes came from - southern Sweden. The Angles and Jutes being on what we today call Denmark. Kinda like the Scots crossing the Irish sea from Ireland and taking over Scotland..
Edit: You can certainly break glass with a voice. It's a frequency thing. There's vids on YT of people doing it.

The region with Copenhagen is called Örestad or Öresundsregionen and it’s Copenhagen and Skåne working close together with schools and businesses. So the south of Sweden is in many ways closer to Denmark then the power in Stockholm.

Some who live north of Skåne, where Helsingborg is located, would say that Skåne is Danish (it used to belong to Denmark), but I disagree. I've been to many parts of Sweden (I come from Göteborg) and have found that although all regions have their own identity, that identity is also very Swedish. Saying otherwise would be like saying some parts of England are more English than the rest, and that's just dumb in my opinion.
