  • The left front brake caliper is completely stuck and needs to be replaced on this Volvo model year 2001. This video guide shows you how to replace the front caliper and brake pads on all Volvo year models 1998 to 2007. It is the same procedure on the Volvo V70 S60 V40 S40 C70 S70 XC70 XC90 mm.
As we replace the front caliper, we want to remove the holder for the brake caliper and make this really clean before we mount the new brake parts. We show tips and how to do when things are stuck hard and do not want to come loose. The brake caliper and brake caliper holder bolts can sit like a rock. But with the help of this trick, the bolts have no choice but to loosen.
The caliper bolts on these models are also sliding bolts. We must clean and re-lubricate these with silicone grease before mounting. The brake caliper holder sliding surfaces must also be lubricated with new copper paste to protect the brake pads from rusting. It is also important that according to the book, the bolts for the brake caliper holder must be replaced every time you loosen them. You need to tighten the brake caliper holder to 100 Nm.
We will also loosen the brake hose to be able to change the brake caliper. Thoroughly clean the attachment of the brake hose to the yoke. You do not want to get any dirt or debris that comes with when you shift to the new brake caliper. Also check the level of the brake fluid reservoir before completely loosening the brake hose. It will drip and leak brake oil from the brake hose at the shift to the new brake caliper. Feel free to clean the brake parts and surrounding parts that have come into contact with the brake fluid. Brake oil has the ability to corrode and make things ugly over time, so feel free to use brake cleaning afterwards and clean really well.
After you have finished replacing the brake, make sure that the brake hose is not turned in any way before tightening it properly. Feel free to look for leaks and top up the brake fluid level if necessary. If you are really careful, you can put copper paste on the edges of the new coatings. We show a great tip to do with those old brake hoses that make them avoid dry cracks and become like the brand new again.
