    One thing I would add is for me XAVC HS 4K (the HEVC/H.265 codec) gives the same quality at 100mbit as H.264 at 200mbit and I never get any overheating with it. I have my camera permanently set to 4k50 (PAL). Tested for 6.5 hours straight, no problem (I stopped the test as I got impatient and wanted to play with the camera some more :P).

      From what I’ve been told, the latest update that gives the camera 120fps also helped fix the “performance stability” which I believe is Sonys wording for fixing the overheating issues that came with the original sold units

  • @lynnewhelden
    @lynnewhelden 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Was this test done with the latest firmware update? I ask because one issue Sony addressed was “operational stability.” Could that mean better heat management? Your results seem better than tests done several months ago.

    • @KyleWattsTV
      @KyleWattsTV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the firmware update was done on this camera, but to my knowledge it’s was just an update to unlock the 120fps but it definitely could have something else in the update that might have helped. Between this test, shooting in 100degree temps in Florida and Mexico I haven’t event seen the temp warning on the camera in real use

      This is copied from Sony site….
      Benefits and Improvements
      Fixes an issue where some movie metadata (Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO, etc.) may not be recorded
      Fixes an issue where JPEG files may not be enlarged and played
      Fixes an issue where Switch V/H AF Area may not work correctly
      Fixes a Creators' App issue where the Auto Time Correction and Auto Area Adjustment features turn off
      Improves the operational stability of the camera.

  • @AlecKinnear
    @AlecKinnear 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The best use of this trinket seems to be between takes when you know your camera is heating up. The fan will trap heat if it's not running so ideally just pop it on, as Kyle suggested, on high for five or ten minutes between takes and you'll probably knock 12 degrees off camera temperature and get another half hour of shooting time. For those who do shoot in very hot environments, these occasionally cooling breaks would keep you going all day. Putting the ZV-E1 under a normal fan with the doors open would do the same thing and cool you too. But if you are shooting outside, you might not have a fan with you. Keep in mind most cars with some pretty fierce ventilation. Doors open in front of a car's air conditioning will cool a ZV-E1 will cool it very fast too.
    Haven't decided if I want one myself as I haven't had too many issues with overheating and just the door trick should help with long indoor takes on a tripod. It's not so much the money up front but that the Ulanzi fan is another piece of equipment to take care of, carry around, keep charged and worry about.

    • @KyleWattsTV
      @KyleWattsTV  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Another thing to add that I recently found out is that the latest update that adds 4k 120fps also fixes “operational stability” of the camera which I believe is the overheating issue. Sony won’t actually come out and say overheating issue but I believe they did fix it in that update ( which is why my camera may have done a lot better in these tests compared to some other peoples tests from when the camera was released)

      Good point. I haven't had serious issues with overheating unless AI framing was running together with 4K 50p. In that case overheating hit at 20 minutes. @@KyleWattsTV

      I have bought one to try how it does on quickly bringing an overheated camera back into action. As an insurance policy when on an important shoot, the Ulzanzi ‎C072GBB1 Fan could be a very useful piece of gear for ZV-E1 video shooters. I like to shoot long stretches at 50p to allow slow motion for key moments.@@KyleWattsTV

    This guy does a handful of tests and has the ZV-E1 shooting 4k60 10bit until the battery dies just with all doors open. Search this title: "Does The Ulanzi Cooling Fan Really Work? Sony ZV-E1 Overheating Test". I bet the fan will really help you if you are adamant about using bluetooth. I dont have this camera but am thinking about buying it for podcasting.

    Also one thing that is not taken in consideration, holding the camera and the heat from your hand. I just did a shoot at the gym, 2hrs. Took small clips one minut long max and had overheating issues with doors open, at 4k50p. Twice auto-shutdown. I had to power off between shoots. Your hands heats the camera ALOT! Having it on a tripod is much cooler.
    I recorded a weightlifting competition for 8 hours, filming 20-40sec clips with 4k100p (tripod and doors open) and got about 2 overheating the whole day.

    I think you paid attention to so many technical terms that in my opinion you didn't do what most people are really curious to know.
    You simply did tests in the scenario in which the camera is proposed to be sold, which is inside a studio or office with controlled temperature focused on vlogs or content, I don't think anyone is interested in knowing this because that's what the camera is sold for, If it didn't meet the needs for what it was proposed to do, there would simply be absurd complaints and zero market sales.
    People are more interested in using it for purposes it was not intended to do, simply for the money, not everyone lives in the USA and has the financial means to buy a camera for every type of situation.
    A lot of people want to know if it could handle the Ulzanfi recording in 4K 60 under the sun for example (yes, no cameraman has the luxury of constantly changing framerate, at weddings even 1 second lost can be fatal and miss something important), as many People don't have the courage to use the ZVE1 because of its overheating, but if it lasted a long time at 4K 60 under sunlight, I think people would easily migrate from the A7IV to the ZVE1.

    How is 4K60 a 'Dumb Test' because 'You' don't use it much?? Lots of people use 4k60 and cameras for different reason. As you stated, sports..but then Music Videos or even stylized coverage that you plan to use a lot of slow mo. In a Run and Gun situation, you don't always know what you want to shoot for slow mo vs 24fps so it is easier to shoot it all in 4k60 and then chop it up in post to make creative decisions.
