  • Hello Everyone,
    Come see me and the layout at Statfold this weekend, the 1st and 2nd of April - check out the website here: www.statfold.com/modelrailway...
    Some of you might remember Lawrie started building this layout years ago on a live stream, and when he was asked if he had anything smaller than Scole to take to a show, he went. Yes. Yes I do.
    A video shot, featuring, and edited by Lawrie.

    Ok, so, with Citadel gray paints, if it's named after anything to do with wolves, it's actually a blue-ish slate color, not a neutral gray.

    I do like these model railway videos more than the real stuff but that might be because I often dreamt of building one as a child but we never had the space for one. I really enjoy the amount of detail that can be put into one.

    What a great insight into building a small layout of a specific size & the process that goes into making the layout. Keep up with the great work Lawrie & I look forward to seeing the next episode.

    I am planning a 009 scale narrow gauge layout that will sit above the fiddle yard on my existing layout. I purchased a Peco 009 starter set and from the existing size that comes to I realised I could get a really decent running length layout if the starter set was extended slightly.
    I am going to the Statfold model railway event on Sunday as duty calls on Saturday as it's the Severn Valley Railways Open House Weekend and I always try volunteer on the Saturday in our department of that weekend as I, like yourself love to let people see what work is going on in our carriage department and try to encourage anyone visiting to volunteer.
    I would encourage anyone who wants to see behind the scenes of a preserved railway in person consider visiting the Open House Weekend at the SVR.

    Just because the parts are in the kit, you don't have to use them all! I regularly leave off fiddly bits. Chances are they'll only get knocked off the model later anyway.

    Boxfiles/micro layouts is a rapidly expanding model railway theme. Every model forum seems to be filled with them!

    • @lmm

      I think we're all suffering from rising costs and smaller areas to have a layout. It's also the challenge of fitting a lot into a tiny space

    Splendid! Not too dissimilar to the boxfile layout I am building. I look forward to seeing you on Saturday Lawrie - although I was hoping to see Scole. Could you not slip that one into your rucksack as well, I'm sure nobody would notice? Cheers :)

    This is really impressive, and more than a little inspiring. I've been gradually feeling a bit of an itch to try model railroading again lately, but sadly my current home is just too small... for a normal layout. But something like this, hmm... But then, I'm on double hard mode: How to model a UK micro layout in America? Would it be cheaper to try and get actual UK models from online retailers like Hatton's, or to try and make do with Bachmann Thomas & Friends models?

    • @lmm
      @lmm  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Thomas stuff isn't very protoypical, unless you use the 009 stuff. Depends what you want to run, and how many engines!
      If it's just one of two in a nice yard, treat yourself and get a few nice ones for whatever period you're modeling.
      Glad it had inspired!

    • @sirrliv
      @sirrliv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lmm Never been much for prototypicalness myself, though I agree that the engines would need some serious reworking (Read: scrap the body, use the chassis, 3D print a new more realistic-ish body to stick on top). Mostly I think Thomas as that seems like the easiest and relatively cheapest way to get British wagons on the wrong side of the Pond.
      Due to tight available space, I'd likely be restricted to just a simple industrial layout at first; at best an Inglenook something or other.

    Hey buddy... I made your station platform "sack barrow" in OO, but I'm still not telling a certain fine-scale association how i managed to add 3 holes in the carts wheels as per prototype..... Yes I did say OO. As for your good self, it would be rude not to have a Lawrie pushing it. If the thing starts selling well, maybe we can talk about some of it's sales revenue going to a good cause.
