I support every single one of these hot takes. Especially the DLC one. They are made for people who play 2 or 3 games a year. DLC for me feels like finishing a class in high school, and the next year, they ask you to come back and take one more test.... yeah, no thanks
Great video guys! And yes all these things of things are all personal preferences so I hope no one is taking them too seriously lol. I agree with many of your points but here are some I kind of have a different view point on. Save states , I know that one dude who works with avgn said some shit about save states , basically trying to gatekeep gaming and also trying to make himself feel more important because he can beat hard games in one sitting . Don’t get me wrong it’s cool to beat hard games and you get a personal satisfaction from it but that’s where it ends, I never heard of it actually mattering in real life lol. The way I see it , it depends how you use them, now if you are save stating every 2 mins then yeh it’s basically a hack like using a game genie back in the day but if you don’t have time to sit in one place and game for 5 hours and just using it to save progress for the next time you play is perfectly fine. People don’t seem to realise that if back in the day it was easy to create a save feature anywhere most games would have used them especially nes days. So that was more of a limitation aspect in the past which is fixed now . Because if you use it just to save progress what’s the difference of that compared to pausing the console and leaving it on till the next day . Will Mike matei say that’s cheating too ? Who the f cares what Mike thinks anyway lol. Xbox 360debate is hard to argue each way but yeh naughty dog really reached new levels with uncharted and then the last of us. I kind of disagree with online gaming, of course couch co up is the best but as someone who’s lived in different countries so has friends all over, online gaming is awesome. Setting up a party and gaming with friends, and able to talk and game from different parts of the world is something I really enjoy . Gatekeepers suck and I literally just laugh at them and move on, how anyone tries to make gaming so serious is stupid . Sports games are great and bring in a lot of revenue for whatever console you game on . They are super fun playing with a friend , that’s just part of the gatekeeping community trying to dictate video games because they have no life . I personally dislike first person horror games and will only buy 3rd person horror games. I also don’t like horror games where you can’t fight back. I also feel the original Xbox has aged the best , great system. Maybe if that had came out at the same time as the ps2 it would have done much better.
Thanks for the great input as always. Yeah the save states is a tricky one. It's the idea of anyone trying to do something hard and taking the easy route. It's still finishing the game but it feels a bit different when you take a hard game down and have to put the effort in to get good. To learn all aspects of it. I totally agree though with being able to save state and continue the next day. When Scott works on beating a hard game that how he does it until he masters it then he does a complete one sitting run with saves that were built in. We totally should have elaborated on online gaming. We meant with strangers online. Hanging with a friend on the other side of the world would be great but playing with a rando, no thanks. THANK YOU! That's exactly how I feel about horror games. OG Xbox has been a great system for us, although PS2 is great, it has aged a bit better for sure.
The only point i disagreeed with was that online gaming sucks. It should be "playing with randos online sucks." But playing with my siblings and in laws that live far away over the internet has helped us stay closer than when we didn't do it.

Good takes. I like a few jabs on it. 1. For me, it's modern games required internet starting from 7th gen to current gen. I wish they take more QA times to really polish the game out. 2nd. Subscription to play with peers. Thank you 360 for giving that BS. Now all 3, except for PC, are doing that. PS+ is $80 US dollar. I'm not sure for Canadian. I am letting it expired until I find a good deal. 3rd. Past games like Marvel vs Capcom 2 brag about 56 characters, stages, music and costumes to unlock. Now, it's DLC madness.
If designed correctly, Achievements / Trophies can point you towards elements of the game that developers want you to see. I agree that for the most part, they are just a bother, but I will never forget years ago, I loved beating a certain game, so I went back to do all the achievements, and it guided me into so much content I had missed that was sooo good, I was extremely great-full for it. It made my experience twice as good.
@@schwing9028 absolutely agree with that aspect. Scott just literally did everything he could do in Sea of Stars. It's the missions where you have to get the gold star or do all the moves just to get a platinum trophy that doesn't make sense to me.

It’s kinda wild that Xbox shot themselves in the foot two generations in a row… The Red Ring of Death for the 360, and the always online/no used games fiasco of the Xbox One. I’m so split on the more remakes take… I totally agree I want those classic games cheaper, but I do hate the opportunity cost. I would much rather Naughty Dog work on TLOU 3 than ANOTHER fkn TLOU 1 or 2 remake lol. But shoot that Legacy of Kain or Parasite Eve remake in my veins 🤣. Sports games are so ridiculously underrated, it bums me out how there’s a clear divide between “traditional” gamers & people who enjoy sports games. Regarding the original Xbox. That's a console that gave my fellow posters a good laugh, on an Internet forum I frequented at the time of it's release. [Posted on a Monday for arguments sake] - Ooh guys/gals. Been to the shops and bought myself a new Xbox to try. [Posted 4 days later on the Friday say.] - Sold the Xbox to my mate for £50. And plugged the SNES back in. It really was that "meh?" to me. Don't get me wrong, the 360 was a decent machine. Still prefer the PS3 to that by a metric mile though.
Totally understand that. We felt the same way back in the day. Sold the Xbox but for collecting and playing purposes everything is cheaper on the Xbox and 360, although that's likely for a reason.
Save states is beating the game. I don't care how these developers made the game back then. When I played Crash 2 I can save after every level on the PS1 on a Memory card. There is no difference if I played a game like Shinobi on Sega Master system saving on each level with save states. Trophies & achievements, I find then pointless. Couch Coop vs Online. Yeah it's better to play in 1 set room or house with friends. The main problem is I don't see my friends hardly ever because we have different work schedules. So online is my only option if I do want to play with them.
@@tonyp9313 since we already talked about save states in another comment, I guess it's cool though that we agree on trophies and achievements and co-op versus online, but I totally get if you can't play with someone in the same room... We are just fortunate enough to be able to get together with friends often enough, but if I had to play online with friends I'd find a way to make it happen even though it's not my favorite.
We are totally on the same page with almost all of these! Modern trophy hunting in games is stupid to me. To be honest I feel like they make a game worse because when the little icon pops up onto your screen it breaks the immersion level of what may be a compelling experience. 🤷♂️ In general I think sports games have gotten a bad rep from all the yearly EA numbered Madden, FIFA, 2k, NHL, etc…and I am definitely of the same mind with DLC. Don’t put stuff out a year or two later and expect I am coming back.
Agree! If there has to be a pop up, put it between levels, during a pause screen or pop them up during the end credits in the order I received them. I think most people don't seem the value in sports games because they think of it as a time filler/waster. All 3 of us have had amazing times with Sports games and made some great memories. YUP, DLCs are just a fun want to make the players spend more money. It's the new microtranaction!
Also the save state argument is stupid. I'll give you an example without that with 2 of the games in the 8 bit era cuz not all of them you had to beat in 1 sitting. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Sega Master System) This is a game that only has 1 life 0 continues & you have to beat this in 1 sitting back in the day. Mega Man 2 (NES) This game has passcodes for every level you beat & unlimited continues.. So even games have different rules from the said developers. So we are only going to give people credit for beating Wonder Boy in Monster Land but not give credit if they beat Mega Man 2 now lol. No lol. They just decided to make Mega Man 2 easier for whatever reason. So that oh but you have to beat games in 1 sitting argument isn't valid.

Yes, I'm aware that some games have a save code or an in-game save option and I'm not saying that you didn't finish the game. I'm saying there's a difference between beating it and finishing it. I do like trophies, but I'm not a trophy hunter. I have to be really into a game to get the platinum these days. Yes!! Save states are cheating! You're speaking my language! Rewind feature is even worse! Couch co-op is definitely better, but it is harder to do these days. You guys are lucky to play together and have Denis, but some of us have had friends move away so we can't do the couch co-op as often anymore. Online is a nice option to have. My first big disagreement is the remakes. New games and sequels to old IPs all the way! I get that they allow access to more people, but the market is so saturated with them right now. Jenn, have you played Alien Isolation? I think you'd like that one and it is a pretty scary modern horror game. I love RE8, but I was so disappointed that it wasn't scary at all after how good 7 was. I'm not a fan of DLCs either. Games are too rushed these days and you can tell. I just wish developers would take their time and release a game with everything on it instead of doing DLC.
That's where we're at pretty much for trophies. I just don't see the point in ruin a good experience for the platinum. I KNEW you'd have my back on the save states. We are very lucky to have Denis close enough to play. It's more about not wanting to play online with some rando. I'm too old for new friends .....or enemies lol If they made the remakes that NEED to be remade I think we could all be more on board. I have NOT played Alien Isolation....more than an hour or so. Fun. Yeah you're 100% right. Couch coop or Couch vs....I 100% agree with you. I rather be in a room socializing with friends. Hopefully when you play nhl 94 against each other or whatever sport games you play, that you don't fight among each other etc. That's why I prefer playing something like Streets of Rage 2 together where you help each other out by beating bad guys. I know this wasn't brought up in your vid, I rather play video games together rather than Board games. Board games take a lot longer & you really have to active & alert, concentrate a whole lot more etc...Where video games you can choose to watch people play or when you do play, you're not focusing as much.
The sports games are literally always cooperative. We tend to turn even a cooperative game into a versus game lol We prefer video games over board games as well but love both for different reasons. Does require more concentration, absolutely.

My hot take...Yakuza Infinite Wealth is the best RPG release this year. Even better than a certain Final Fantasy remake. If you like RPG's it is a must play.
I like trophies/achievements to an extent, but I never got the appeal of trying to get all of them like some people do, nor do I get people thinking nintendo is dumb for not having a trophy system, like are you kidding me? nintendo is lacking in plenty of modern sensibilities, but complaining about them not having trophies is the most frivolous and idiotic thing to complain about
Yes trying to get all the trophies to me can be game ruining and that's where I draw the line. I did ALMOST everything in Bloodstained Ritual of the NIght but there was one side mission that was infuriating me and I had to move on. If I would have played it until I beat it I totally think I would have felt differently about it. People who complain about NES not having a trophy system shouldn't be allowed to type their opinions out for the world to see.

I hated achievements when it was first introduced to me when I got my Xbox 360, still don't like them now, I try to ignored them and I certainly don't go out of my way to get them. It certainly ruins the fun to do them I believe.
I just want to comment cuz 1 of you said Mike Tyson's Punch out is a hard game & you have to beat that in 1 sitting. The thing is that game has passcodes. So if you beat each of the champions you can start off at those points. Tyson's code you have to look that up to fight him. However if you beat Macho Man they give you the passcode in the game to start off at Macho Man. So now you only have to beat 2 boxers.

It's not the same as somebody who did it legit just using the passcodes. Either way I don't care how anyone plays a game. Just play it and have fun. These were soft takes, in my opinion 🤣! I know you both can do better than that! I can't wait for Part 2! You're absolutely right, Scott, about sports games! That's almost all I ever played on the NES and the Genesis! Baseball Stars, Base Wars, Dusty Diamonds All-Star Softball, Blades of Steel, Ice Hockey, Tag Team Wrestling, NHL 94... I could go on and on! And the Outlaw series on the OG Xbox (Outlaw Golf 1 and 2, Tennis, Volleyball) and one last one: Virtua Tennis on Dreamcast! I've played so many hours it's insane! And yes, Jen, more remakes! Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Dragon Force, the sky is the limit at this point! Funny enough, basically the only time I go for all the trophies is with a game I love, something like Spider-Man on PS4/PS5. Finishing the story and then being like, “I don’t want this to end, I’ll have to go find all the collecibles and finish the side quests/challenges.” When I end up with a platinum trophy (even if it’s not a real, physical thing) is more a sign that I played the hell out of a game. And sometimes you get a small “gift,” like the PSN avatar of Aloy, or the little Miles Morales LEGO minifig (if I recall correctly) to get the small dopamine hit long after the disc is collecting dust on the shelf. But I do get not grinding for trophies just to get them (unless it’s almost complete, sometimes it’s tough to not get that last 5%-10%). And yes, as implied, we usually get co-op games digitally when my spouse and I are going to play together. But solo games, I get physical in one way or another (part of collecting is finding a second hand copy of the disc down the line since the stupid companies love to include only digital codes with the special/collector editions these days 😡).
@@jacobharvey2946 I look at trophies exactly like you do. If I'm enjoying the game it's easy because I'm not even trying. I just can't stop playing but yo get every trophy because 🤷🏼♀️ Nah! I get the coop games and buying digital. It would be crazy to try to shelf two of all of those.
@@RetroRivals It's not just that, we game the system for most (non couch co-op). We have two consoles, and play on each others. AKA "my PS5" is what my wife plays on, and when I buy a game it lets us both play. Me logged in to "hers" and her logged into "mine." =)
For save states, I agree if you are save scumming moments in the game you aren't truly beating it, but if you are saving/reloading to the start of levels (or an obvious check point if it isn't level based) i disagree that it's not beating as I think the game would have that if it was standard practice, and you've proven you can legit get that far. I agree with the gatekeeping stuff in regards to how you guys are bringing it up. Emulation made games more accessible, and I believe the only reason we get retro collections is because emulation showed there was a market, I would even go as far to say most retro inspired games probably only had the guts to be made because emulation showed the love for the classics still existed.
@@KayFabeMedia I really appreciate your opinion and viewpoint on the save states. That makes a lot of sense and I know back then it was the limitation of the games themselves. Super happy you understood what we meant by gatekeeping because I think A few misunderstood our reasoning and that it was for emulation purposes. We just want everybody to have access to gaming no matter what. It has brought us a lot of joy, individually and with friends.
@@gabbothegiver dude same LOL. That's why we have everdrives. But I can see the difference between beating tmnt on the NES in one complete playthrough or save stating at the hard parts. Personally, if I'm going to play retro I have to have the save States or I can't even do it but I'll give props to anybody all day long who can do it without 😊
My hot take is sports games and racing games suck, unless both are arcade like, example NBA jam, MLB slugfest, fzero gx, Mario kart, wipeout, great arcade type games, anything else is basically a simulation like Madden or grand Turismo, those games are painfully boring.

the 360 and PS3 sales are fairly close but i wonder how many were purchased as replacements during that run. I think the stars aligned for PS3 to crush 360. Backwords compatiblity, Bluray > HD DVD, and free online! But like you said the Xboxs got better and the PS3s got worse. The line in the sand was drawn and sides were already chosen before this gen so both were going to be successful! I could never go Xbox for my primary console just for the fact that their A, B, X, Y are the same as Nintendo but reversed.

Whoa.. everything remade?? nah I'm good, if I get a few select get remade I'm good. Some of the greatest games came out of innovation because of system limitations, if we could just throw money and peak technology maybe the game wouldn't be as great as it could have been.

I agree with many of your points but here are some I kind of have a different view point on.
Save states , I know that one dude who works with avgn said some shit about save states , basically trying to gatekeep gaming and also trying to make himself feel more important because he can beat hard games in one sitting . Don’t get me wrong it’s cool to beat hard games and you get a personal satisfaction from it but that’s where it ends, I never heard of it actually mattering in real life lol.
The way I see it , it depends how you use them, now if you are save stating every 2 mins then yeh it’s basically a hack like using a game genie back in the day but if you don’t have time to sit in one place and game for 5 hours and just using it to save progress for the next time you play is perfectly fine. People don’t seem to realise that if back in the day it was easy to create a save feature anywhere most games would have used them especially nes days. So that was more of a limitation aspect in the past which is fixed now . Because if you use it just to save progress what’s the difference of that compared to pausing the console and leaving it on till the next day . Will Mike matei say that’s cheating too ? Who the f cares what Mike thinks anyway lol.
Xbox 360debate is hard to argue each way but yeh naughty dog really reached new levels with uncharted and then the last of us.
I kind of disagree with online gaming, of course couch co up is the best but as someone who’s lived in different countries so has friends all over, online gaming is awesome. Setting up a party and gaming with friends, and able to talk and game from different parts of the world is something I really enjoy .
Gatekeepers suck and I literally just laugh at them and move on, how anyone tries to make gaming so serious is stupid .
Sports games are great and bring in a lot of revenue for whatever console you game on . They are super fun playing with a friend , that’s just part of the gatekeeping community trying to dictate video games because they have no life .
I personally dislike first person horror games and will only buy 3rd person horror games. I also don’t like horror games where you can’t fight back.
I also feel the original Xbox has aged the best , great system. Maybe if that had came out at the same time as the ps2 it would have done much better.
Thanks for the great input as always. Yeah the save states is a tricky one. It's the idea of anyone trying to do something hard and taking the easy route. It's still finishing the game but it feels a bit different when you take a hard game down and have to put the effort in to get good. To learn all aspects of it. I totally agree though with being able to save state and continue the next day. When Scott works on beating a hard game that how he does it until he masters it then he does a complete one sitting run with saves that were built in.
We totally should have elaborated on online gaming. We meant with strangers online. Hanging with a friend on the other side of the world would be great but playing with a rando, no thanks.

OG Xbox has been a great system for us, although PS2 is great, it has aged a bit better for sure.
The only point i disagreeed with was that online gaming sucks.

Good takes. I like a few jabs on it.
1. For me, it's modern games required internet starting from 7th gen to current gen. I wish they take more QA times to really polish the game out.
2nd. Subscription to play with peers. Thank you 360 for giving that BS. Now all 3, except for PC, are doing that. PS+ is $80 US dollar. I'm not sure for Canadian. I am letting it expired until I find a good deal.
3rd. Past games like Marvel vs Capcom 2 brag about 56 characters, stages, music and costumes to unlock. Now, it's DLC madness.

If designed correctly, Achievements / Trophies can point you towards elements of the game that developers want you to see. I agree that for the most part, they are just a bother, but I will never forget years ago, I loved beating a certain game, so I went back to do all the achievements, and it guided me into so much content I had missed that was sooo good, I was extremely great-full for it. It made my experience twice as good.
@@schwing9028 absolutely agree with that aspect. Scott just literally did everything he could do in Sea of Stars. It's the missions where you have to get the gold star or do all the moves just to get a platinum trophy that doesn't make sense to me.

Sports games are so ridiculously underrated, it bums me out how there’s a clear divide between “traditional” gamers & people who enjoy sports games. That latest NCAA game sold close to 3 million copies at $100, for the early access & so few “traditional” gaming outlets are even talking about that game’s success
The modern walking sim horror craze is getting beyond bland to me. I’m glad we’re seeing games like Tormented Souls & Crow Country pop up, to give the indie horror space a bit more variety
OG Xbox hands down has the more interesting library of exclusive games from any 6th gen console imo…. Not saying the best games, but so many weirdo, one off original releases, along with heavy hitter western RPG’s galore… the only reason I would still go PS2>OG Xbox was for the exclusive wrestling games, and the timed exclusive 3rd party games, like the MGS series, the GTA series, etc.
In the same boat with DLC’s… I loved Burning Shores last year, but dude trying to relearn those controls was a fkn nightmare… I’d much rather you expand the DLC a bit & just release it as a full new game… that way we can stop waiting fkn 5-7 years for sequels…

Regarding the original Xbox. That's a console that gave my fellow posters a good laugh, on an Internet forum I frequented at the time of it's release.

Totally understand that. We felt the same way back in the day. Sold the Xbox but for collecting and playing purposes everything is cheaper on the Xbox and 360, although that's likely for a reason.
Save states is beating the game. I don't care how these developers made the game back then. When I played Crash 2 I can save after every level on the PS1 on a Memory card. There is no difference if I played a game like Shinobi on Sega Master system saving on each level with save states.
Trophies & achievements, I find then pointless.
Couch Coop vs Online. Yeah it's better to play in 1 set room or house with friends. The main problem is I don't see my friends hardly ever because we have different work schedules. So online is my only option if I do want to play with them.
@@tonyp9313 since we already talked about save states in another comment, I guess it's cool though that we agree on trophies and achievements and co-op versus online, but I totally get if you can't play with someone in the same room... We are just fortunate enough to be able to get together with friends often enough, but if I had to play online with friends I'd find a way to make it happen even though it's not my favorite.
We are totally on the same page with almost all of these! Modern trophy hunting in games is stupid to me. To be honest I feel like they make a game worse because when the little icon pops up onto your screen it breaks the immersion level of what may be a compelling experience. 🤷♂️ In general I think sports games have gotten a bad rep from all the yearly EA numbered Madden, FIFA, 2k, NHL, etc…and I am definitely of the same mind with DLC. Don’t put stuff out a year or two later and expect I am coming back.
Agree! If there has to be a pop up, put it between levels, during a pause screen or pop them up during the end credits in the order I received them.
I think most people don't seem the value in sports games because they think of it as a time filler/waster. All 3 of us have had amazing times with Sports games and made some great memories.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Sega Master System) This is a game that only has 1 life 0 continues & you have to beat this in 1 sitting back in the day.
Mega Man 2 (NES) This game has passcodes for every level you beat & unlimited continues..
So even games have different rules from the said developers. So we are only going to give people credit for beating Wonder Boy in Monster Land but not give credit if they beat Mega Man 2 now lol. No lol. They just decided to make Mega Man 2 easier for whatever reason. So that oh but you have to beat games in 1 sitting argument isn't valid.

Yes, I'm aware that some games have a save code or an in-game save option and I'm not saying that you didn't finish the game. I'm saying there's a difference between beating it and finishing it. Couch co-op is definitely better, but it is harder to do these days. You guys are lucky to play together and have Denis, but some of us have had friends move away so we can't do the couch co-op as often anymore. Online is a nice option to have.
My first big disagreement is the remakes. New games and sequels to old IPs all the way! I get that they allow access to more people, but the market is so saturated with them right now.
Jenn, have you played Alien Isolation? I think you'd like that one and it is a pretty scary modern horror game.
I love RE8, but I was so disappointed that it wasn't scary at all after how good 7 was.
I'm not a fan of DLCs either. Games are too rushed these days and you can tell. I just wish developers would take their time and release a game with everything on it instead of doing DLC.

Hopefully when you play nhl 94 against each other or whatever sport games you play, that you don't fight among each other etc.
That's why I prefer playing something like Streets of Rage 2 together where you help each other out by beating bad guys.
I know this wasn't brought up in your vid, I rather play video games together rather than Board games.
Board games take a lot longer & you really have to active & alert, concentrate a whole lot more etc...Where video games you can choose to watch people play or when you do play, you're not focusing as much.
The sports games are literally always cooperative. We tend to turn even a cooperative game into a versus game lol
We prefer video games over board games as well but love both for different reasons. Does require more concentration, absolutely.

Yes trying to get all the trophies to me can be game ruining and that's where I draw the line. I did ALMOST everything in Bloodstained Ritual of the NIght but there was one side mission that was infuriating me and I had to move on. If I would have played it until I beat it I totally think I would have felt differently about it. People who complain about NES not having a trophy system shouldn't be allowed to type their opinions out for the world to see.

I hated achievements when it was first introduced to me when I got my Xbox 360, still don't like them now, I try to ignored them and I certainly don't go out of my way to get them.

YUP! I think if you beat your head against a wall trying to get an achievement it can slowly put a dark cloud over a great experience.
I just want to comment cuz 1 of you said Mike Tyson's Punch out is a hard game & you have to beat that in 1 sitting. The thing is that game has passcodes. So if you beat each of the champions you can start off at those points. Tyson's code you have to look that up to fight him. However if you beat Macho Man they give you the passcode in the game to start off at Macho Man. So now you only have to beat 2 boxers.

It's not the same as somebody who did it legit just using the passcodes. Either way I don't care how anyone plays a game. Just play it and have fun. These were soft takes, in my opinion 🤣! I know you both can do better than that! I can't wait for Part 2! You're absolutely right, Scott, about sports games! That's almost all I ever played on the NES and the Genesis! Baseball Stars, Base Wars, Dusty Diamonds All-Star Softball, Blades of Steel, Ice Hockey, Tag Team Wrestling, NHL 94... I could go on and on! And the Outlaw series on the OG Xbox (Outlaw Golf 1 and 2, Tennis, Volleyball) and one last one: Virtua Tennis on Dreamcast! I've played so many hours it's insane! And yes, Jen, more remakes! Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Dragon Force, the sky is the limit at this point! But that's wishful thinking because, like Scott said, it's all about the bean counters at the point! Great video and keep up the good work!

Funny enough, basically the only time I go for all the trophies is with a game I love, something like Spider-Man on PS4/PS5. Finishing the story and then being like, “I don’t want this to end, I’ll have to go find all the collecibles and finish the side quests/challenges.” When I end up with a platinum trophy (even if it’s not a real, physical thing) is more a sign that I played the hell out of a game. And sometimes you get a small “gift,” like the PSN avatar of Aloy, or the little Miles Morales LEGO minifig (if I recall correctly) to get the small dopamine hit long after the disc is collecting dust on the shelf. But I do get not grinding for trophies just to get them (unless it’s almost complete, sometimes it’s tough to not get that last 5%-10%).
And yes, as implied, we usually get co-op games digitally when my spouse and I are going to play together. But solo games, I get physical in one way or another (part of collecting is finding a second hand copy of the disc down the line since the stupid companies love to include only digital codes with the special/collector editions these days 😡).

@@RetroRivals It's not just that, we game the system for most (non couch co-op). We have two consoles, and play on each others. AKA "my PS5" is what my wife plays on, and when I buy a game it lets us both play. Me logged in to "hers" and her logged into "mine." =)
For save states, I agree if you are save scumming moments in the game you aren't truly beating it, but if you are saving/reloading to the start of levels (or an obvious check point if it isn't level based) i disagree that it's not beating as I think the game would have that if it was standard practice, and you've proven you can legit get that far.
I agree with the gatekeeping stuff in regards to how you guys are bringing it up. Emulation made games more accessible, and I believe the only reason we get retro collections is because emulation showed there was a market, I would even go as far to say most retro inspired games probably only had the guts to be made because emulation showed the love for the classics still existed.

My hot take is sports games and racing games suck, unless both are arcade like, example NBA jam, MLB slugfest, fzero gx, Mario kart, wipeout, great arcade type games, anything else is basically a simulation like Madden or grand Turismo, those games are painfully boring.

the 360 and PS3 sales are fairly close but i wonder how many were purchased as replacements during that run. I think the stars aligned for PS3 to crush 360. Backwords compatiblity, Bluray > HD DVD, and free online! But like you said the Xboxs got better and the PS3s got worse. The line in the sand was drawn and sides were already chosen before this gen so both were going to be successful! I could never go Xbox for my primary console just for the fact that their A, B, X, Y are the same as Nintendo but reversed.

Whoa.. everything remade?? nah I'm good, if I get a few select get remade I'm good. Some of the greatest games came out of innovation because of system limitations, if we could just throw money and peak technology maybe the game wouldn't be as great as it could have been.
I'm thinking more for access for those hard to get games. I want people to be able to experience them and unfortunately that dollar is stretching less and less everyday

I love hot takes. I am ashamed to admit I got addicted to 360 achievements for a second. But now i dont care. I am out on fighting games. I am taking hot take 3 and dumping hot sauce all over it. Beating games is overrated!!!! Red ring of death did allow PlayStation to win the war. Obviously couch coop is better. Gatekeeping sucks. Remakes should be limited to hard to find games. I enjoy some sports games. Jenn is numb to horror. Re 7 is the scariest game I've ever played. I do wish there were more games with evil villians.
