got a rig for under 15k bc his cluster didn’t work n he didn’t know fix it, he even went out n bought a new cluster n now i bought the truck from him n saw the video n now my cluster works good . time for dune szn ‼️‼️😎
If I get to heaven (jury is out) before you, and I think at my age I will, there will be a cold beer waiting for you with my huge thank you for this. I get to save big by not needing to take it to the shop and as an added bonus I get to tell my wife I fixed it. You will eventually get the credit though. Thanks again.
Ha! The best comment I've ever had. I'll take you up on that. Coors Light is fine for me! Glad I can help. DIY vids on youtube have saved me thousands$ over the years so I really enjoy putting stuff on here that might be useful for others. Oh - and please do take the credit from your wife! I do the same...
Thank you for the video, I would have never figured it out, my control panel cluster just stopped working randomly, checked the fuse and it wasn’t blown, but when I removed it and put back in, it worked…. Must have been loose.. Thank again!!
My 2003 Chevy Silverado 3500 8.1 L gasoline truck thanks you. I was having the same problem now I know where to look. Thanks for your hard work and effort.
Every video you watch they all wanna pull the cluster out… as soon as I heard you say dash lights worked but gauges didn’t I new this was the video for me!!! I checked fuse other day looked fine after watching this just decided to throw a new one in there and fuck me running it worked!! Thanks brother man!
Thank you for the tips on the separate power and wire colors. My problem turned out to be a mouse chewed my orange wire but it gave me a wire color to chase from there once I knew I didn't have power to the orange wire! Thanks
Great! Glad to help. The fuse box on mine has a square hole in the lid that is easy access for a mouse. I taped it shut with ZIP panel tape. Might help....
Just saw your video. I've got a 04 Suburban my cluster just stopped working. Lights work, I checked the fuse you pointed out and it is fine and getting power. But the whole cluster is still not working. What should I do?
I'd pull the cluster and verify power to the pink and brown wires on the cluster harness as shown in this vid. If you have power, reseat the connector and see if you have any luck with it working. If not, I'd suggest sending it to someone that can repair the cluster as it's likely an internal issue.
I have a 2003 Silverado 1500 and the back lights for the gauge clusters are off. So you are saying it’s the TBC 2A fuse on the side of the dash? So… check this out!!! While trying a new headlight switch module, I noticed a bit of white corrosive powder on the harness plug in a couple of holes. The pins on the switch were slightly coated too. So, I took a pin and cleared the white powder away as well as sliding the pin into the plastic plug holes and went in and out about 30 times to rough up and clean away the corrosion. We put it back together with the old switch and voila, 1/3rd of the Speedo has light as well as the gauges to the right of that. So tomorrow, I’ll clean out all the pins to make sure they are free of corrosion. That should do the job.
Wow men thanks so much i had same problem for over a week i was just going to the mechanic and saw youre video and fix it Idk why we check all fuses before and all of them where fine we may skipt of something
Hope it works for you simple stuff first! If all else fails and you can't get it to work I'd send the cluster to "GM Gauge Repair" in Wisconsin. Super pro same day repair.
Thank you so much!!!! You're a life saver buddy. I'd have never found that under 5 more hours of checking and testing, if that. Truly appreciate you sharing this! God bless you and have a great day!
Thank you great vidio but witch pins do I use to power the Cluster on the bench? you mentioned the Black and white as Ground and the orange as positive 12v is that correct? or I am missing somthig
I have not bench tested one of these things so I don't know the proper way to do it so do it at your own risk. Here's what I do know per my testing that i did: The black/white wire is ground. The orange wire is 12V (present at all times when everything is working properly regardless of vehicle running or not) and the pink wire is 12V; present when the ignition is turned on/vehicle is running.
You might try a new fuse. It is possible for a fuse to cause higher resistance = lower voltage but I'm not sure if that is a common thing in a small automotive fuse but it's an easy thing to try. Otherwise I can't really offer any advice as I've not had that problem.
I think I'm wrong in what I said previously; I believe a compromised fuse could restrict current therefore causing a voltage drop "V=IR" Same goes for a damaged wire that is restricting current.
Hmmm - hard to say. I would first try to unplug and re-seat the connector in the back of the cluster and see if that does anything. Beyond that, you should verify power coming to the wires as shown in my vid. If you have power like you should, you might consider sending your cluster out for repair as it's likely internal to the cluster at that point. Thanks, Paul
One other thing to consider if you have power present to the wires but no function... Sometimes the pins in the connector "go bad" and get kinda deformed and don't make a good connection. If you wiggle the connector and you get it to function you might have pins that aren't making the connection or the pins that go thru the circuit board in the cluster for the connector might need to be resoldered.
I don't think that's normal. It's likely your orange wire is damaged and grounded somewhere in the vehicle. What exactly are you referring to as "continuity" on your meter?
Thanks for the video My cluster went out but the fuse was not blown. I took the fuse out put it back in it started working I guess the corrosion wasn't allowed to make the connection. Show me which fuse was the key Thank you big save for me
Thanks! Not sure about wiring to and from. If I was you, I'd first check the connector to the cluster. Because your problem is intermittent, it will be hard for you to know if it's a power supply issue. I would remove the cluster and jiggle the connector that goes in to the back of it a little and see if the gauges either start working or quit working when you do that. If so, you should consider removing the cluster, take it apart and re-solder the pins that go thru the circuit board to the connector. If you are not comfortable with that, there are plenty of people out there on e-bay that repair these for about $70. They are notoriously flaky gauge clusters. It could be another issue but what I recommend for you to do is pretty easy and low risk even if you aren't a great solder guru.
Good luck! yea - I made this issue 100x too complicated but I Learned a bunch of stuff along the way so that's the reason for the vid - sharing the info... I suppose if I had a manual I would have found the fuse location right off the bat but I didn't...
I washed the video because the same thing happened to me three plus Fridays ago going for pizza. The most reliable vehicle I've had in 6 years died 100 yards from its parking spot lost my gauges, lost my prindle lost communication to the TCM lost communication to the ECM and obviously I lost gauges washed a couple billion other videos. For some reason. My Allison transmissions is about 6 quarts to full. I'm going to drain that tomorrow. Don't know why it's not discolored. It's pink like it should be now. I'll be checking the fuses you'd recommended. It has nothing to do that. I saw on your video with fuse ECMB under the hood and nothing to do with ignition zero at the end of the dashboard but I'm going to be checking a screenshots. I took off your videos for the dash cluster cuz the dash is out other than the back lighting

Nice! That's awesome glad you got it fixed!
Thank you for your research and information. Lol, I have spent 3hrs working on my suburban before I found your video. Thanks again and be blessed.

Thank you for your comment. My fuse also wasn’t blown and I saw this and turned my truck on again and everything worked
Same thing for me. Pulled the fuse put it back in then it worked. Thanks much
Nicely done. Thanks for the comments! Paul
Me too same thing
My 2003 Chevy Silverado 3500 8.1 L gasoline truck thanks you. I was having the same problem now I know where to look. Thanks for your hard work and effort.
You bet. Hope you find the problem easily!
Every video you watch they all wanna pull the cluster out… as soon as I heard you say dash lights worked but gauges didn’t I new this was the video for me!!! I’m having same issue. I doubt a mouse chewed my orange power wire but I don’t have a way to check it. I’m assuming it could be the cluster.

I noticed you’re carrying heavy your fuses in your module PCM area circuit does that help?
Thanks you saved me a lot of stress ! HERO COOL MAN , AMERI - CAN , CAN DO !
just bought the same truck and having the same issue, now i’m going to try this thanks!
Thank you so much!!!! You're a life saver buddy. I'd have never found that under 5 more hours of checking and testing, if that. Truly appreciate you sharing this! God bless you and have a great day!
Thank You! Do you have a source or link for a good schematic for the cluster pin connection?
I don't. There is a vid on youtube a guy did on this where he shows the pin-out of all the wires. I don't recall who it is, though.
Thank you great vidio but witch pins do I use to power the Cluster on the bench? you mentioned the Black and white as Ground and the orange as positive 12v is that correct? or I am missing somthig

The orange wire is 12V (present at all times when everything is working properly regardless of vehicle running or not) and the pink wire is 12V; present when the ignition is turned on/vehicle is running.
Going through this now! I’m only getting 5 volts to orange wire! Fuse isn’t blown so idk I just stole power from radio for now
You might try a new fuse. It is possible for a fuse to cause higher resistance = lower voltage but I'm not sure if that is a common thing in a small automotive fuse but it's an easy thing to try. Otherwise I can't really offer any advice as I've not had that problem.

When putting in a new gauge cluster does it need to be reprogrammed or is it just a plug-in play?
I've not put a new one in, only repaired a couple of them so I'm not sure.
Will a gas instrument cluster gm 2500 work in 05 dura max 2500 will a gas 05 2500 instrument cluster fit in the desiel
I'm not sure. I've never done a swap.
So I did what you said and the fuse is good but the dash still isn't working
Hmmm - hard to say. I would first try to unplug and re-seat the connector in the back of the cluster and see if that does anything. I found engine stop fuse inside in fuse box fixed my gauges issue . Don't know why. It was blown.works fine.
What would engine stop fuse be for?
thank you for sharing! if it weren't for people like you, we'd all be worse off. :-)
Thank you so much! The only reason I do these is to help other people out...
If my 2500 HD isn’t a diesel than what fuse is it under the hood ? I don’t have a ipc fuse because it’s not a diesel
Hmmm - I'm not sure. You'll have to do a little more research. Sorry I can't help.
I need the same answrr
Found it, it’s under the hood in that fuse box!
ive got continuity with my orange wire and ground. what does that mean is it normal for power to have continuity with ground?
I don't think that's normal. It's likely your orange wire is damaged and grounded somewhere in the vehicle. What exactly are you referring to as "continuity" on your meter?
Thanks for your video… mine wasn’t the fuse but I did pull it out and cleaned it and it started working
Nice!
Did it again this morning so I’m just going to replace the fuse with a new one
Thanks man, you just saved my day. Thanks for sharing!
Glad to help!
You just saved me headache. Preciate it!
Thanks good video. This doesn't help with mine. Mine works then shuts off then works than works etc...
Thanks for the video My cluster went out but the fuse was not blown. I took the fuse out put it back in it started working I guess the corrosion wasn't allowed to make the connection. Show me which fuse was the key Thank you big save for me
Muchas Gracias! aprendí algo nuevo hoy
Huge help brother. Saved me hours. Thanks!
Thank you so much that was exactly what was wrong with mine
Will check this morning
Awesome video, but it's not my fuse...☹️
My truck gauges come on sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Where else does that cable lead to?
Thanks! Not sure about wiring to and from. If I was you, I'd first check the connector to the cluster.
