I am amazed how polished your channel is given how few subscribers you have. Great job, keep it going!

Consumers created the market for disc brakes because it was the new best thing...its the same thing with electronic shifting, the new thing makes people buy it over the "old obsolete" mechanical shifting.
We the consumers created the disc brake standard because marketing and snobbery of the cycling community.
For me having 4 disc brakes and 2 rim brakes bikes i find the rim brakes the better casual riders choice, simple external cables. Maintenance plays a massive role in why i prefer rim/mechanical bikes. Disc is great and so is electronic shifting (have both) but simplicity for older riders instead of new tech when you dont need complications when doing maintenance.

I agree, I have the factory black P2, I only ride in the dry and maybe once a week. I run 55 single in front and factory 11/28 on rear. Performs reliably and most of the gains will be from my discipline to train and eat healthy to stay light. An upgraded bike is a small gain next to losing 10 kg body weight and having better cardio.

Yep, upgrading the legs is where the big gains will be

Rim brakes for the road, disc for mountain bikes.

I absolutely agree about the brakes, I only run rims because I got such a magnificent deal on my frame that I couldn't turn it down. I am looking to upgrade to a disc frame when I sell one of my other bikes, I don't care about the weight, the superior braking and not wearing the rims out or heating them up is worth the weight penalty. I'll just have a few less ice creams to compensate. As you said, wider tyres are better on our crappy Auckland roads, I'm in West Harbour so the roads around here are varied depending on the direction you ride. My road bike is on 25's and I feel *all* the bumps, its night and day when I use my commuter ebike on 2.1 inch tyres to go to work.

few things - I actually enjoy disc on my TT because braking power on rim brakes and carbon wheels and these weird TT braking levers just sucks. I love rim brakes on my climbing bike though, saves weight, disc for gravel & mtb. no idea why you need a roadbike with disc tbh - maybe if you want an all season roadbike or are a very heavy rider and live in a place with very wet conditions overall.

Not saying I don’t want it on my TT bike. Just don’t want to pay the extra when there’s nothing else I want to change

What sort of brakes would you recommend for a 1 year olds balance trike?

The best thing to do would be to secretly remove them from their Dads MTB

Buy Canyon Speedmax. It would be under 10k 😅
