Just over 30 years ago Tommy visited in hospital a friend of his who just gave birth. My wife was in the same room and Tommy came over and just started talking to her. She didn’t know who he was but was struck by how genuine and friendly he was. He even asked if he could hold my newborn son. That simple act of caring to come over to a stranger and treat her like a friend has stuck with us all these years. Even if we forget about his immense talent and love of music, the world needs more Tommy Emmanuels.

I’m saddened to hear of your depression, you’ve brought so much joy to so many! I met you outside of a venue in Manhattan Beach, CA many years ago. I told you that your music (especially “Those Who Wait,” “Since We Met,” and “Angelina”) had gotten me through some very dark times in my life, even when I’d considered ending it. Your music is a gift from God and you to us and I hope I get the blessing of hearing, live and otherwise,for many, many years to come.
Good comments and diet effects mood. If a drug can effect the brain which in turn it's use to house the "mind" so does alcohol and diet and so on. Be aware of what you eat, rid toxins both mentally (by what we take in and mull over in our minds) and physically. No GMO and so on. When I got to meet Tommy he played my Myrtle Wood guitar and we got talking, I am a mechanic learning (relearning) his songs. I asked how he stays so healthy traveling. He said he doesn't eat rubbish. That needs to be done even sitting still. Hold a different worldview than what the wicked media tells us and look forward to your glorious dreams and wholesome love of life and living on Earth. They can't stop us. Galatians 5:23 ... against such there is no law !!!!

What is wrong? Idk about nothing bad happening to Tommy. It is hard for me to believe that this mentally very strong man and VERY intelectual have depression. I always have a hard time keeping it together when Tommy plays The Duke. It was worse today hearing him talk about depression. If we can all hold on a little longer and stay strong, hopefully this will get better. I felt like I was sitting in the third row watching Tommy, and Richard is my second favorite guitar player. There are literally thousands of talented guitars players in the world today. Some of whom are truly remarkable, geniuses even. But there is only one Tommy Emmanuel. It will be a long time before the world sees your equal again, because there are so many elements beyond the mere musical creative genius that make you the unique soul that you are. I don’t know anyone who isn’t happy and grateful that they ran into you, if they did.

I think this past year would've brought anyone down, especially for a man whose ability to connect with so many people has been curtailed. But unlike others here, I am not a believer in the supernatural and therefore I cannot offer prayers. But I can offer this from one human being to another: Your passion, your dedication, your talent, your positivity and your love has reached millions of people in ways that can't be counted. Tommy - you gave me a hug after Guitar Camp in upstate New York in 2014 when I was preparing to travel to West Africa for the Ebola outbreak. I'd like to return that hug now, but given the circumstances will wait until I can catch you after a show. It was your gift of a guitar to raise money for the people of Haiti after the 2010 earthquake that got me into playing again. In Haiti, I heard a guitar late at night in the Embassy. I followed the sound and met a US soldier who had been sent there from the Middle East to help with food distribution. He told me that his hand was injured by an IED, and that as he healed the guitar was both physical and mental therapy for him. Thank you, Tommy, for making this world a better place through your generosity, your energy, your music and your love. All best wishes to you, my brother. Peace.
Tommy thank you for having the courage to share about depression, I too was diagnosed with depression and felt some unhealthy shame that I must have done something wrong or that there was something inherently wrong with me that only compounded the depression and isolation. I was really frightened and knew I needed to fight the urge to isolate and just be with friends. I have been sober and active in Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years and felt embarrassed about the depression and that I must of done something wrong and felt I needed to keep it my secret which was false pride. I sought help and realized that I had been sharing my experience, strength and hope for years in A.A., and have known the power that had to encourage and guide me as a new comer and have passed it on to help others as we learned to live life on life's terms and share our walk and this was my journey and I decided to pocket my pride and have amazed when I shared my secret, the number of people that thanked me for having the courage to share how helpful it was for them. Thank you Tommy and the guitar has been the balm for me to heal and work out the emotions that I could not find words for. Tommy thank you for having the courage to share about depression, I too was diagnosed with depression and felt some unhealthy shame that I must have done something wrong or that there was something inherently wrong with me that only compounded the depression and isolation. I was really frightened and knew I needed to fight the urge to isolate and just be with friends. I have been sober and active in Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years and felt embarrassed about the depression and that I must of done something wrong and felt I needed to keep it my secret which was false pride. I sought help and realized that I had been sharing my experience, strength and hope for years in A.A., and have known the power that had to encourage and guide me as a new comer and have passed it on to help others as we learned to live life on life's terms and share our walk and this was my journey and I decided to pocket my pride and have amazed when I shared my secret, the number of people that thanked me for having the courage to share how helpful it was for them. Thank you Tommy and the guitar has been the balm for me to heal and work out the emotions that I could not find words for. You are an inspiration in many ways, and I personally want to thank you.-Brian Leary
