I just finished "The Stand," and it made "The Way of Kings" feel like a short 400-page book. I liked how you pronounced the names in the subtitles, like Dalinair, and didn't change it to Dalinar while editing. I thought that was funny.
Omg really! That’s wild I can’t even image a bigger book haha. What’s The Stand about? (Haha thanks! The subtitles also help with the words I don’t say properly so I like to have fun with it).
@@imtalkingwaffles The story is pretty straight forward: good versus evil in a post-apocalyptic world where 99% of the population died from a virus. The good guys are fighting to stop the bad guys from wiping them out using leftover military weapons. But what makes this book shine are the characters. There are many of them, and you'd be surprised at how well-developed they are. They're relatable, likable, and detestable. There's also a lot of romance, more than I expected. It's a bit like the Stormlight Archive, where characters unite to fight against the evil.
Its not that Kaladin is the authors favorite. Each book follows one character in flash backs. Way of kings only has Kaladin flashbacks. Words of radiance has Shallan flashbacks. Oathbringer is Dalinars.etc.
It was delightful to see how excited about the story you got! I remember reading the Way of Kings for the first time and it was fun to relive some of those memories. You mentioned you wondered why Kaladin was in every part when other characters weren’t- the structure of the series is such that every book has a focus character. Book 1 is Kaladin, so he’s slightly more prominent in the plot and the message of the book. Book 2 is Shallan and so forth. Way of Kings may be tho longest book you’ve read so far, but not for long, as each book in the series is at least a little longer in word count than the previous. The funny part is the author kept promising they’d get shorter but couldn’t help himself and we ended up with the majesty of the Ridiculously Long, Ridiculously Wonderful Stormlight Archive. If you liked being surprised by the twists, definitely keep reading Sanderson! I think I speak for all of us with Brandofandonitis when I say that we envy your ability to not be obsessed with Stormlight. I love it, yes, but I would really like it if I could actually have a coherent thought without it containing spoilers for the Cosmere. Oh well, that ship sailed a long time ago. Oh wow that is a long comment. I may have gone a tad overboard. Have fun with Words of Radiance!
That makes sense! I’m noticing while I’m reading Words of Radiance that Shallan is featured a lot. Lol I love how big the books are and I’m glad he didn’t feel like he has to reduce the length. I’m sure I’ll be obsessed with it shortly this second book is giving a lot of omg moments!
Great time to get into this series with the 5th coming out in December. Going through my reread now will check out your WoR review once I finish that one. Glad you’re enjoying it! Btw you have a great accent, is that a hint of the Atlantic provinces?
I’ve been scanning weekly for new first time readers! Im excited to get into it Also where are you from, there’s this slight accent just on certain words
Definitely a first time reader for this series! I’m reading the second book Words of Radiance at the moment at it’s good! I’m from Ontario it’s those “ing” words that I have trouble pronouncing lol.
It was so much fun watching this vlog with my best friend! Way Of The Kings sounds interesting! We are enjoying spending time together watching your videos! How many books are there?
I thought everytime Navani seduce Dalinar was very sext lol but yeah I get you, I really like Sanderson for this, his book found a really nice balance between all these explicit content.
@imtalkingwaffles no problem. Also, Shallan is pronounced sha-lon. Again, this is from the audio book that I assume had to be approved by the author. (Not trying to correct you)
@imtalkingwaffles When you read a physical book, you pronounce it how your brain interprets it. I listened to it so it was read to me... I was. Just letting you know... I meant no disrespect.
@@imtalkingwaffles Yeah I noticed that and was gonna edit my comment 🤣 Is it a regional thing or just a you thing lol? It didn't take away from the fact that it was a really good review though 👍Looking forward to december for book 5?
@Zappaisgod4983 think it’s a small town thing! Everyone in my family drops the “ing” so I must’ve picked up as a kid 😂 also thank you I’m so glad! And I am SO excited for December I could pass out!!
@@imtalkingwaffles Aah that's interesting, funny how accents can be so different despite being so close to one another. I'm from England so I'm pretty experienced with crazy accents 🤪 And yeah, me too. Counting down the days to get my hands on this baby 🤩
What's the biggest book you've ever read?

Sounds like a pretty solid story tbh! Might have to add it to my never ending list lol.
@@Avelurker The stand has roughly 500,000 words while the way of kings has 380,000 words

Aww I’m glad! 💖
Imo, the second book is even better 😊
That’s so exciting!! I’m reading the second one and am enjoying it a lot
And third is best imo
The third was so good!

I believe at the moment there are 4 books and 2 novellas with the expected number of 10 for the entire series (I think!)
@@imtalkingwaffles Thanks! I’ll check them out. Me and my best friend have been watching Outerbanks, have you watched that series?
@glx3846 I have yes! I enjoyed it

Very great series
10/10 for sure!
Great series. Fantasy is my favorite genre.
It’s the best 💯
And I was actually pleasantly surprise that for high fantasy there was no sexy scenes
Right?? I mean I like the spice but it is still good without it haha
Most fantasy I read is pretty PG without those scenes. It is a modern issue.
That's just Sanderson being Sanderson

Szeth is pronounced zeth
(According to the audio book)
Oh the S is silent! Thank you I had no clue how to say his name!
@imtalkingwaffles no problem. Also, Shallan is pronounced sha-lon.

@mattronimus please do correct the names! I have a lot of trouble pronouncing things especially fantasy names lol

@mattronimus I appreciate it! When I finish the second book if I get character’s names wrong I don’t mind being corrected on that at all! Thank you 💖
Unpopular opinion but my 2 favorite Stormlight books are WoK and RoW
I love both of those ones!! Especially RoW 😭😭😭
He really knows how to make a magic system I hope you read the wheel of time someday
Yes!! It’s on my list! How good would you say it is?
It has it’s ups and downs there is a lot of books in the series @@imtalkingwaffles
I came for the waffles. But I stayed for the review.
And the waffles
Waffles are pretty cool 🧇
Great series I'm glad you are going to read it but just a tip from someone who has no experience in videos or any social media say "like" less.
Honestly fair 😅 I’ve noticed how much I say it while editing and it’s something I’m working on! That and the ums lol
W mission making girlfriends addicted to Brandon Sanderson ❤
It’s a good plan
Welcome in high fantasy.
We call Adolins brother "not Adolin".
😂
Omg, I thought u were the lady behind that one meme of the crazy ex gf 😭 sorry if that came off as rude, wasn’t my intention
LOL honestly I always wondered who my famous counterpart is so this is fab 😂
The letter G does not exist in this Lady's world. Kinda endearin and confusin at the same time.
