I've been binge watching interviews of Greta all day today and I really love how she always has a reason behind every single detail in her movies. There is never a, "There was no reason, I just wanted to because it looked or sounded cool". There is always some deeper meaning behind every small detail.
I almost feel like that is because she didnt go to film school. I would guess that in film school, you learn all of these different techniques and tricks and theories that future filmmakers then later pull them from a bag of tricks. But for greta, her library is from observing and remembering things she viewed as impactful in that moment. If something was done for without a reason, she wouldnt have picked up on it. At least that is the theory i have in my mind
I love how much they truly admire and care for each other. They have a really strong connection and it shines through in Lady Bird and every time they interview together. So glad I watched this. So inspiring.
I love how they gave each other chance to speak. Both of them are such good listeners of each other. This is a very important thing mostly ignored in a group.
It’s 2020 and I’m still crying when I see this conversation. It’s so good to see two women who support each other and I grow up without television too by the way...
Their respect, admiration and love for each other is really so heart warming I couldn't help myself and started crying too. I love how pure their connection is :'c
A truly respectful and generous interviewer with depths to his questions. Grateful to have watched such a natural, and authentically flowing conversation! I am sure organizing this event demands high orchestrating, and yet watching this interview felt consistantly relaxed. Bravo to everyone involved in this event.
Such an inspiring personality Greta has! The way she talks and appreciates others, is dazzling. Lady Bird and Little Women are classics. She acted well in Jackie also. Feel good conversation.
Incredible conversation. I'm so happy young people are able to see a different view of themselves, without limitations... to see the color orange for the first time.
Really great questions! Some very different from any of their other interviews during this press tour. This whole video made for a wonderful analysis of a wonderful movie. Thanks Times Talks 🎬
Lady Bird is one of my favourite movies of the year. Greta did an amazing job to tell a simple story with a lot of moments that we can indentify with. by the way I LOVE Saoirse since always
This world needs more people like these two ladies! Although I'm already grateful we have them both. They are so brilliant and intelligent! The topic of Lady Bird is not very relatable to me, but I can see the value of this movie. I think it's a mistake to judge a movie only by your own impression. There are so many things people don't see at the first sight! The work of the crew, director, actors. Their professionalism and passion. Movies are not always relatable, but they can be fun in very unexpected ways, like High Rise was to me. Just to think how much fun actors had with this movie makes me appreciate it! :) Movie making industry is so fascinating. I applaud Greta Gerwig and Saoirse Ronan for doing what they are passionate about and being good at it. I love the moment when Saoirse was discovering her passion for directing a movie! And I love how genuinely they weren't expecting all those awards. That's the modern formula of success: do what you're passionate about, be good at it and be good to people around you.
you can tell with some of the audience questions that Gerwig just wants to have a conversation with them, rather than be in a sort of pedagogical question-answer situation. she's so genuine and real at all times, and that's something very special in anyone with the amount of recognition and money and praise she was receiving at the time.
I have been watching interviews about this movie and would love if an interviewer would ask this specific question: Where does that name LADYBIRD come from. Is there a story attached to it? :)
I just love Greta (and lovely Saoirse) so much. As a young woman she means a lot to me, and I would give so much to just have one conversation with her. Her passion is tangible almost -- her awe of the world and her ideas are just so cool
46:13 "The movie that's going on in Lady Bird's head is not the movie that we're watching" -Greta Gerwig. Just wow. Replace Lady Bird with your name and it is just too real.
Lady bird might look conservative, but I just realized most men there are depressed (the father, the priest), where women are strong (Ladybirds mother, the nun, ladybird, most of her friends). But the men (except the one played by Tim) are touching. A man also wrote the music which is also a masterpiece. Maybe we need more women like those 2. But we do not need wonder women, crossing WWI no man's land... Thanks Greta for Ladybird, a masterpiece.
Saoirse it would be an honor to dance/drink with you at an indie rock club, share laughter & a smile, & just bullsh*t if even only for a few hours. Much love from this Scottish lad here. G*d Bless thee accent and thy grounded spirit.
I think if Greta learned about my very abusive mother, she’d understand why I view Ladybird’s mom the way I do. I don’t see her as loving, she’s cruel, inward facing and selfish. She’s really only reacting out of her own desires, not what her daughter wants and needs. I wish that Ladybird had kept her name and I don’t think she needs to have a love for her mother because her mother wasn’t loving. Or a love for the place she grew up in. I wonder if Greta’s actual mother was more supportive and created a safe space for her, therefore informing Greta to create these scenes that are so much harsher. I personally have the perspective that if you felt the way Ladybird’s mom really made you feel, you wouldn’t have such a romanticized view of the way she treats her daughter.
I feel true ..seeing the good opinions I suggested this movie to my senior counter part in USA. Later when I watched it I was very embarrassed that I suggested this to her . I didn't expect the movie has so much sexual talk n content

Anu Kollom In another interview, Greta said that it may have been subconsciously inspired by the nursery rhyme
How about the late and beloved former First Lady, Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson?
I just love Greta (and lovely Saoirse) so much. As a young woman she means a lot to me, and I would give so much to just have one conversation with her. Her passion is tangible almost -- her awe of the world and her ideas are just so cool
