  • This week I embrace the Winter weather on the Welsh coast and practise some seascape photography. Armed with a Nikon D750, I travel to the 3 Cliffs Bay in Swansea, and Monknash Beach on the Vales of Glamorgan Heritage coast, while battling unpredictable weather.

    Hiya, if the light seems flat. Try converting some of the images to Black and White. If you visit the Norfolk coastline. Go to Burnham Overy Harbour. Then take the coast path to the beach. Best when tide out, some great sand dunes there. A lovely walk to Holkham beach too.

    At 5:39 I love this shot. It makes me think of the “Ghosts Of The Sea” coming after you. You don’t run because you don’t see them as threatening until it’s too late. They grab your legs and take you out to their home. Never to be seen again until it’s your turn to go hunting.

    Nice video! Try the North Norfolk coast to help conquer your fear of the sea. Places like Hunstanton, Holkham and Wells beaches features miles of golden sand which slopes so gently that you can walk 100m into the sea and it's still only ankle deep! Hunstanton also has stripey cliffs and a shipwreck. Elsewhere, Cromer, Weybourne and Happisburgh have awesome shingle and cliffs, so a great mix. You'll usually see a few seals too. Not as spectacular as Wales, but more user friendly. Oh, and buy some wellies!!

    • @CourtneyVictoria
      @CourtneyVictoria  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the recommendations, I'll definitely keep them in mind! Miles of golden sandy beaches sound extremely tranquil. To spot a few seals would be fantastic as well! I will definitely pop my wellies in the car next time! Luckily I had some spare socks and shoes so I didn't have to suffer soggy feet for the rest of the day ha. Thanks for watching and have a great week!

    What a great video Courtney! For someone who doesn't like seascapes as much as spending time in the mountains/forests (I admit I'm the same) your captures are absolutely incredible. That image where you were waiting for that big wave with the V shape in the foreground is astonishing, I really wouldn't change anything, you conveyed the mood of the scene perfectly. "The remnants of the tide" is also gorgeous, that foreground tide pool and the patterns in the rocks are mesmerising and coupled with the towering cliffs in the background really makes for a powerful image. You came home with 2 very strong portfolio images, well done! :)

    When you said, "at least it isn't raining", I was expecting it to start much sooner.
    I don't fear the ocean but I have a healthy respect. If you are focused on photography you need someone to watch the incoming waves. You never know when a rogue wave will come in that is much higher and stronger than the rest.

    • @CourtneyVictoria
      @CourtneyVictoria  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I half expected it to start raining too! I like that, a healthy respect. I think a part of my fear is that I don't feel as though I belong there. Very true, would be much easier with a second person to keep watch. I do my best to keep an eye on the water as I go about my activities but you're absolutely right. It just takes one rogue wave and then you've got more than soggy socks! Thank you for watching and have a great week!

    Great video as always .I also have the Nikon 16-35mm lens , its a great wide angle , it's advised to have a filter on the front if using in windy sea conditions as wind can blow moisture & sand into the front lens itself , it's already happened to one seascape photographer , it's rather odd as the lens is weather sealed , the seascape photographer demonstrated the sound of sand scraping as the internal part of the lens moved in & out , it's the internal gap between the inner lens & inner side where it travels , crap can work it's way in to the travel space , best keep a filter on .

    Great video Courtney. I've grown up in and around the ocean but know quite a few people who have a fear of the ocean, but it was nice to see you at least give it a shot there at the end. Definitely have to be careful over there with how fast the tide moves in, but with proper planning and never taking your eye off the ocean, there is no type of photography more rewarding to me than seascape photography. Some really crackin' images in this one. The one at 0:35 is so clean, and despite the lack of light and ultra-wide angle lens, the one at 2:43 was amazing because of the S curve and the cliff creating the leading line into the shot. The test shot at 3:45 could really be a special image given the right light and clouds. Really enjoyed the video and the images! Hope you are doing well!

    • @CourtneyVictoria
      @CourtneyVictoria  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video and images! I hope the fear lessens the more I practise my seascape photography, I am really enjoying it! I have noticed how fast the tide can come in here already, I try to look at tide times so I have some idea of when it could change but the waves can be quite unpredictable. Definitely keeps me on my toes!

    I don’t know if you know this or not but if you photograph people without their permission and they see you take their photo of them they consider that work and they must be paid for it.
