    Hi Courtney
    I used MPB to buy a lens I needed, very happy with them, I emailed them and credited you for being the reason I used them.

    For the final waterfall image, it would be really interesting to see the blend of long exposure for foreground + normal shutter speed for waterfall itself. I know composite is not everybodys thing as well, but that might actually end up being the best of two worlds.

    Always take the shot! It is your time and the trip that is expensive. So, while you're there, jump right in. You can, at your computer... with your cup of coffee, say "oh, well." If you take the picture you might be saying "oh, WOW!" I was ready to turn off my computer when I spotted your video, and I was saying "oh WOW" ... a new video from Courtney! Good stuff!

    I think that the wide image at 4:13 with that negative space, is beautiful, I like a lot all the grass and leaves information (as addition of detail and colour).
    About 5:04, sometimes "just a lot of water" is the perfect subject ;) for example, I admire hughly the work of Rachael Talibart, so please, always let a chance for those scenes that don't look "so interesting" at first sight. Maybe they can surprise us with a second chance.

    Thanks Courtney another great video. As others have alluded too in comments, your approach is much more artist with camera rather than technician with artistic pretentious. Your ‘feel’ for the correct composition really inspires and challenges me to take really meaningful images that convey my connection with the scene. You do have the knack of bringing out the ‘arty farty’ in me lol. Thanks.

    Yep, quickly becoming my favourite photography channel. The combination of images and explanations really does relate for me, I identify with the struggles. That first image I thought, nah, that location isn't gonna work, just too much water! Then the image, I genuinely thought wow! My only criticism...post more often, but I know quality not quantity eh?

    I agree with you about the overly long waterfall images. It seems everyone is doing them and after a bit all the images look alike no matter who has taken them. I generally do several images with fast shutter speeds and then some at a speed of about ⅙ of a second or thereabouts. Where I now live it is sunny, cold and very dry. I grew up in Seattle and there are times I do miss the rain but not as much as you seem to be having

    • @Powerstroke98
      @Powerstroke98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a couple hundred miles north of Seattle, and the rain can make one weary, but soon after the rain, the 'light' is spectacular for getting quality images, especially in the fall with the changing of the colours of leaves. Also by Fall, often the waterfalls are more poignant, and worthy of taking the time to photograph. :)

    Really enjoyable Courtney, the 1st image at 1:10 was brilliant, not sure if it was hand held? if so well done especially at 1/13s. Maybe an investment in some rock shoes might prevent a slip or fall. Hope you now get lots of new sponsors.

  • @laurentyarp514

    Love the pictures. What a waterfall. We didn't have such heavy rainfall here in western France.
    Saturday I fell on a similar rock incline. I hesitated before going down. Then couldn't resist the beauty of the scenery. Went down caustiously on the slope and managed to get to the water level succesfully. Then I forgot about being cautious. My camera and lens now have a little scratch to recall me not to do such silly things again.

    • @CourtneyVictoria
      @CourtneyVictoria  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! At least it's just a little scratch, it could have been much worse! It's very easy to get caught up in the beauty of a location and forget where you're putting your feet! I hope you captured some lovely images.

    • @laurentyarp514
      @laurentyarp514 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CourtneyVictoria No :)) it wasn't worth it in the end. There were some bush tree that masked part of the scene.

    You could try a composite of the foreground and background. So you get the falls with some texture not so cloudy and the foreground with a longer exposure to get the swirl effect.

    Nice video ! I too went to the waterfalls (though, not in England) a few weeks back and was surprised how much more water there was in there ! Almost slipped a few times because of the mud and how slippy the trail was.
    I recently bought a D700 on MPB, though not being in England, the camera came frome their site in Hamburg. And I don't know if that's widespread to all MPB centers or just this one, but my camera wasn't tested at all, and in fact came in defective (the aperture lever in the lens mount was in the down position by default, which happens when something broke in the mechanism that usually keeps it up. It's a very costly repair in general). I was able to return it and pick another one (kinda) free of charge, but that added weeks of delay that could have been easily avoided if they just bothered to test the gear they ship.
    I'm sure that it would be okay for most people but if you shop through MPB, PLEASE do some research about the camera you're buying, especially if that an older DSLR with a lot more moving parts than the modern mirrorless cameras have. It turned out alright for me, but you might not be so lucky, research of potentiel defects (especially those are a little specific to the camera model and are not wide spread issues, if they missed the aperture lever on my D700 (which is a pretty glarig issue, not gonna lie) who knows what can slip through the net)

  • @NigelBaileyPhotography
    @NigelBaileyPhotography 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I actually liked the very long exposure, but I get that not everyone does. You could try a time-blend in these situations; a longer shutter speed for the surface movement and a shorter one for the falling water - a more complex edit, but it would give you the best of both worlds.

    If I may, fly fisherman/woman use special felt soled footwear to avoid slipping on wet and/or algae covered rocks. I myself have used them and they work wonderful. Perhaps look into either getting a pair or having an existing pair of shoes fitted with the felt soles. Coud turn into a very good investment.

Now, having watched your vid, I think may have made the right decision. Love the imagery produced in this vlog and like you I much prefer the faster shutter speeds to maintain texture, your first images at approx. 1.11 min is a fine example of maintaining that texture and what beautiful images! Got to love the 'The Fairfolk who took him to their world' giggle you had! Always a pleasure to watch your video's Courtney, as your adventures (of the video's of yours I've watched so far) are very much eye pleasing, of which my distant heritage is of Wales, giving me a small/short view of what my distant relatives may have seen. Nonetheless, I also am pleased how you add your photo information from your shot, especially in that I'd like to start doing more long exposure shots myself, thus giving me a view of how you go about setting your camera for the shot. Unlike most here I'm sure, the 'actuations' on my D750 are quite possibly low to most, in that I sometimes get out a fair bit, and then not use it for months at a time, as I enjoy other activities as well, so it becomes an event where access to photography has it's limitations because of this, yet I do love it very much. I belong to a local photography club, have won a few discernible accolades from competitions, but generally take photo's for my own enjoyment, to decorate my own home's walls as wanted. 🌻
