Welcome back! The flaring on the lens you are getting might be fixed by using a lens hood? Can really make a difference when shooting in harsh sunlight.

@@deryncorbett I was going to say the same thing. The Canon ES-65B or the JJC LH-ES65B should do the trick I reckon.
I was going to write the same : this lens is known to work better with the lens hood.
