    about to dive into mine! couldnt figure out how to press out that little timing retainer thing at the bottom but I guess I now know! I just got a 1300 for 200 bucks and will be building it to a 15 or 1600 single port! Cant wait.

    The “plugs” as you called them are typically vents so air can circulate inside the unit. This is important to mitigate any potential gasoline vapor getting inside and igniting due to the open spark of the points.

    How did you attach the ground wire. Easy to solder?
    Any tips?

      Easy to solder, not too bad.

      The solder won’t stick. New groundwire keeps coming loopse.

      Clean the area very well and then solder.

    I have a 73 beetle and when I take the cap off I can push down on the rotor a bit and it springs back up. Are they spring loaded ?

    • @FixinBugsNStuff
      @FixinBugsNStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rotor itself has a spring tab to hold it in place. If the rotor is moving up and down significantly, then you may need a rebuild.

    David, great video 2 questions, what is your source for the fiber, shims and oil felt? What tools did you use for polishing? The final results are awesome.

    Would this distributor be good for a 1641 with a 34 pict 3?

    • @FixinBugsNStuff
      @FixinBugsNStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would not work with a 1641 because of the vacuum requirement.
