  • Filmed in High Definition on 11 March 2009 this video is the result of my first ever trip to London City Airport. See EI-REM, Aer Arann's ATR-72-500 the first airline certified for steep approaches, VLM Fokker 50, Luxair Embraer 135, BA/SunAir Dornier 328, BA, CityJet and Air France liveries on a variety of Avro/Bae 146 Aircraft. All footage and photography in the film taken by me. I hope you enjoy, it's a bit longer than my usual vids. Beginning footage from LCY Carpark (£14 to park there!!!) and handheld, rest from the Royal Albert Dock on tripod.

    hi, thanks for your comment. I edit using Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 I try not to use too many special fx on the raw footage but title sequences i just try and do different things.

    Hello Dutchbird, sincerely many thanks for your comment. This was my first trip to LCY so it was very much a fact finding mission, i.e where could I go and where could i film, I would love to go back and film more. I've got more landing shots too, but in this video I was trying to cover lots of aircraft types, and movement sequences. Even then- it goes on a bit for TH-cam standards :) thanks again and for subscribing.

    Hi gillyboy1971, thanks for watching my video from London City Airport I'm pleased you enjoyed watching it and it was nice to read your comment. Have to agree with you about the 146, it was a really good invention and a shame that we no longer really make anything like this ourselves now. There are so many airports around that could be developed more, look at what they've managed at Southend recently. I guess its about having deep pockets to attract airlines and to ensure modern facilities.

    Hi there, thanks for your message, everyone has different skills, and many of them, come with experience and practice. I know i'll never be as good as the professionals, but I try hard with the tools i've got. It makes me happy to think that other people see that too. Thanks again.

    @737boeing8 Sometimes the prevailing wind means that the camera picks up the engine sounds better than other times. I'm no expert by any stretch, on the relative no of decibels for an ERJ vs the other aircraft operating. However, thanks for watching and for commenting I do appreciate it,.

    Thank you very much for your kind words ChickenwingAirlines, I really appreciate them. I am very pleased that you enjoy my videos. LCY is a bit of a trek for me so I don't know if I'll be there again in the immediate future, but it is certainly an airport I want to go back to SOON. Thanks again.

    Hi there, thanks for your comment, it's kind of you to take time to leave one. I'll grant it to your grandad, it's definitely out of the ordinary flying to LCY because of the steep approaches. But, to me, that's exciting :-) Cheers.

    thanks for the update re: Swiss 146/Avro aircraft Alexwaugh881. Its a shame the aircraft are slowly disappearing, they look smart, a unique shape and appearance. They always look good landing at LCY with the steep approach too. Still other carriers will likely operate them a while yet, TNT and Titan spring to mind.

    Hi harrihealey02 thanks very much glad you liked the video. You need to get the tube the Royal Albert Docks - there you're on the other side of the water, only problem is sun is in wrong direction.

    Yes CityJet was Irish, although it was then taken over by Air France, however I think (although someone else may be able to advise further) they still operate on their own operators certificates, The aircraft are Irish Registered too.

    Hi plymouthapproach, yes I read that Air Southwest were starting flights to LCY and I have been very tempted to book a flight myself as it's only around £29 or something. I have heard lots of good things about ASW so I hope, like Aer Arann, that their route's a success. I've never flown myself from LCY, but want to, the steep approach and amazing city-scape must be great.

    no problem, I used to have Hi8, it's true that you really notice the difference now when looking back, but when you think how much technology has changed like with the TV pictures its not surprising. You could pick up a DV Tape enabled Sony Handycam with HD capability, I also use a Sony HDR HC3 which is pretty good

  • @aviationvideos
    @aviationvideos  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi defaultytuser thanks for your comment. Yes that was a Dornier in the video. Although it's painted up in BA colours it's actually a franchise agreement with a company called SunAir of scandinavia. The reg begins OY rather than G- However I'm not sure why they operate like this. Hope that helps --a little!

    @matthiashaenni Thank you very much; it's strange to think that just a couple of years on and everything at #LCY_Airport will look so different now as more and more Embraers have replaced the Avros/146's. AS for Skywork, they have a lovely livery, very colourful aircraft interestingly I understand that one of their Dash8's diverted from LCY today into my local airport at Stansted but unfortunately I wasn't there to capture it! thanks again for your support.

I have been making lots of different videos since my early TWA one - and thanks for buying one! - I hope you'll stop by my page and see some of my other videos too. Just a pity I couldn't film more of TWA when I had the chance.

    Really enjoyed it! Being a pilot who flies into LCY almost daily I would love to see some landing footage from the same spot on the northern side in strong gusty conditions. The LH landing was great! Thanks. 5/5

    Hello Monkey10Boy VLM is based in Belgium but it was taken over by CityJet, as far as I am aware all aircraft are now operated in CityJet colours, which although professional looking, are no match for that striking VLM blue and gold.

    It's funny isn't it alexwaugh881, it's kind of all or nothing in a way, a few years back it was virtually all 146's, now it's going the way of the E-Jets. At least we still have a bit of variety at the moment as the crossover period. I assume Swiss and Lufthansa Regional and CityJet still operate 146's at LCY. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment.

    Damn, for such a small jet, the ERJ 135's can be LOUD!!!

  • @aviationvideos
    @aviationvideos  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    No probs nevernoob19. LCY has a really small runway so only small jet and turboprop planes can land and takeoff. The big A300 - A380 or 737-777 type aircraft all use the main airports like Heathrow with the long runways. Personally speaking the small planes are nicer!

    Thanks 4 ur comment FTFLCY. Everyone is entitled to their point of view, however, LCY was built as part of the whole LDDC plan for regeneration of Docklands region. It's one of the most heavily regulated airports - no night flights & shut on a Saturday. nearby housing is newly built so ppl had a choice. I suggest Local jobs & supporting the continued development of East End. Take the point about conflict of interest, suggest u contact ur MP. The LU is loud, roads are loud..am out of characters

    @madaboutrains Hi madabouttrains sorry for the delay in responding i have been away from my PC for a few days. The plane at 5:24/5;30 is a Dornier 328 in the colours of British Airways. The aircraft is operated by SunAir under a franchise agreement.

    The BAe 146/ Avro RJ is my favourite aeroplane and the last British airliner to be built. I am fortunate to have flown on one before and I dont think I will be able to fly on one again as now Flybe and British airways have both phased them out.

  • @aviationvideos
    @aviationvideos  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @FPVsean Hello FPVsean thanks for your comment. The 146 and Fokker 50 approaches at LCY always look steep. The airport uses steep approach procedures, which I think have been relaxed a little over time, I think they used to be something like 5 degree although someone with better flight knowledge may be able to give exact angles.

    hi, no it's not possible to turn a Hi8 into a HD camera. it's all down to the actual technology within the camera, how it processes the colours, the definition, is to do with how the light hits the sensors. I think you'd need a new camera, for a Handycam you're looking at around £500 upwards. I think relatively speaking, cameras are now cheaper than they were when you bought your Hi8 but having said that, it's still a lot of money.

    Hi, yeah you have to pay for it. it's both a software and hardware setup, so you have a breakout box that lets u connect the cam to do the capturing and the software to do the editing/titles. Tbh, it's not the software that u use, but more about trying to capture the best sequences to start with, I mean u can edit using Windows movie maker, the key is getting the footage, that's the bit I find hard!

    @somethingtoremember1 Well if you wanted to fly on a NON UK registered airline, then I guess Cityjet/ Swiss and Lufthansa Regional are still operating Avro's/146s out of City Airport so there's still time! I know there's a few at Manchester too including Swiss and Brussels Airlines but they may not be going to the destinations you want. Its nice to see new aircraft but equally it's nice seeing variety the 146 has been a very successful airliner in terms of is STOL so hopefully around a while yet
