This is October of 2022, and I still have The Waltons on every single day, and play it all night long as I sleep. It’s relaxing and warmth of family life back then take me away from the ugliness in todays world. I’ll treasure every single member of that family for all time. I truly wish the morals, respect and love would be a part of all our real families today.
Concur 150 percent. I grew up on The Waltons from the very beginning. It has always put me in a happy, peaceful mood and always floods my thoughts during the holiday seasons. It's a blessing to own the series and all of the movies on DVD. "The Homecoming" and "The Thanksgiving Story" have always been perennial holiday favorites for my family since they first aired during my childhood. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

Christopher Reeve was the original lead but when it was filmed (aired on Showtime and on Great Performances on PBS), Richard Thomas had taken over the lead, and he is AMAZING! It’s not on TH-cam but maybe it’s on pbs or amazon or e-bay, it was released on video. Swoosie Kurtz and Jeff Daniels are also in it.

Richard Thomas left the series I think after season 5. John Boy was the heart and soul of The Waltons. And a few seasons later they tried to revive his character with another actor and it just didn’t work.
I remember. I watch the reruns. I just dont watch the episodes when he was replaced with someone else to play his character nor do I watch the ones that he is not in.
I know. I couldn't accept that plain-Jane replacement. I was disgusted. Their characters as a couple were not just boring to me, but I resented Richard leaving. Why DID HE ? What was so important? Didn't he know that we needed to watch HIM? Pft ...
I just watched a rerun of The Waltons and wondered why they were calling a different actor John Boy. I new of the series and watched a few episodes in it's original run but didn't know they replaced Richard Thomas role as John Boy with another actor.

Richard is gifted and such a blessing. A beautiful soul, inside and out. A fan all my life. What a time he was having. He and Sian Barbara Allen were an It couple & were great together in You’ll Like My Mother. Love his humility.
I don't believe "terribly" is an appropriate adjective to describe being surprised and grateful. But how can you not give him a pass as he was so young and such an amazing actor on that program. Actors today could learn a lot by watching his performance on the Waltons.
He so deserves this. He was so great on that show, so expressive, he made that show. I love the grandmother too - she was totally awesome but John Boy made that show.
What a class act John is! I loved the way he threw his arms around the presenter, Ms Cicily Tyson, and they both just couldn't stop smiling...great, pure & heartfelt moments.... thankfully they were captured for all the world to see. I had the biggest crush on John Boy growing up. My momma was a school teacher and we spent our summer breaks watching The Waltons, those are memories I’ll never forget. Just hearing the theme song takes me back and makes me feel like I’m in a simpler time.

Everything Richard was involved with was always classy. I'd love to see him host "It's a Miracle " again. One of the best tv shows of all time. We need more programming like that.
TV shows give people what they want to see. If people don't watch, the shows are canceled. I don't watch any of the new shows on TV. If I watch anything it's old movies or one of the classic TV channels.
Most of the years of that show were so well done. Richard Thomas was terrific. My kids like "little house" but not the Waltons, for some reason...go figure...lol

And there are other type that are repetitive, military, police, I've had ENOUGH of HOLLYWOOD NOT bringing back some FAMILY SITCOMS like THE WALTONS which is NOT a DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY. GET CREAIVE HOLLYWOOD, or don't YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THAT ANYMORE. And the SAME about MOVIES you stick into the theaters, so MUCH ANIMATION for our children, put children's movies out with real ACTORS, & NOT STUPID MOVIES. Maybe you should look into the ARCHIVES from years ago for EXCELLENT FAMILY TV SHOWS & MOVIES TOO. YOU HOLLYWOOD ARE SO OBSESSED WITH POLITICS, YOU'VE FORGOTTEN WHAT TRUE ENTERTAINMENT IS.
